Of course I'm speaking generally, but overall, more conservatives were loyalists. And if you look at the majority of the founding fathers, most of them were liberal as well. Hell, look at our presidents, most of the ones considered to be the best were quite liberal. America has generally been a more liberal country.
Yes founding fathers were liberal but in the classical interpretation of that term (limited government, small taxes, private property). Modern American liberals are more like sociailists and radicals while conservatives (in theory at least) are like classical liberals.
Some of the founding fathers were libertarians, others would best be described as progressives. Thomas Jefferson advocated for free college education and a progressive tax system, Hamilton a tarrif system that accounted for the majority of federal income, and the fathers were clearly being anti-monopoly when they threw the East India Tea company's tea into the boston harbor after the crown gave the company a massive tax cut.

They are about making sure that no person is more successful than the next, irregardless of how much that person has worked to get where he/she is at. The actual definition is a group of people that believe that people cannot make decisions on their own and that government knows best. It's about taking away your basic freedoms for the common good. Some of our Founding Fathers like Thomas Jefferson were actually liberal -- back then being a liberal just meant being progressive -- it did not have the negative connotation of today that liberals are for big government and socialism. Liberals were progressives wanting to do what's best for America.
Note the word progress in progressive. Liberals were about progress and still believe they are but the term liberal has been hijacked to mean something else entirely.

Are you crazy? Do you know what the conservatives did when the revolutionary war started? They sided with the British, the liberals were the ones who pushed for change. Of course I'm speaking generally, but overall, more conservatives were loyalists. And if you look at the majority of the founding fathers, most of them were liberal as well. Hell, look at our presidents, most of the ones considered to be the best were quite liberal. America has generally been a more liberal country.

Yes founding fathers were liberal but in the classical interpretation of that term (limited government, small taxes, private property). Modern American liberals are more like sociailists and radicals while conservatives (in theory at least) are like classical liberals.

Some of the founding fathers were libertarians, others would best be described as progressives. Thomas Jefferson advocated for free college education and a progressive tax system, Hamilton a tarrif system that accounted for the majority of federal income, and the fathers were clearly being anti-monopoly when they threw the East India Tea company's tea into the boston harbor after the crown gave the company a massive tax cut.

Fair enough, but honestly, I don't lend a lot of credibility to anyone who claims a party affiliation. No pre-packaged label defines my "beliefs" and I think America would be better off without any political parties. Make candidates actually have to open up and discuss what they really are instead of borrowing the party line. Its divisive and untrustworthy.

Cost? The US spends more on its military each year than all other nations COMBINED. Yes thats right. If you truly worry about cost, that is where you should aim it. You could drop your military funding down to lets say china or russias level and still be safe, and with the saved money from that you could afford any welfare programs you want.

What does that have to do with education? While I agree with what you stated about the modern GOP (which I am not a part of). Having the federal government mandate education has pretty much destroyed our education in this country. About 60+ years ago when education was done at the local level (state, county, city) a 3rd grader was learning a vocabulary that were barely learning in college. Things are best done, and are more efficient at the local level, there is no denying this.
