And here I thought the "F" designation stood for fighter as in F15 Eagle, F14 Tomcat, F22 JSF, F4E Phantom, etc. For example, a C130 is a "Cargo" plane but an AC130 is that same "Cargo" plane with lots of neat guns and a 105 howitzer which makes it an "Attack" "Cargo" plane. Wow, who would have figured the military would be so organized.

But most fighters have multiple nicknames, the F16 itself is known as Fighting Falcon, Viper and Eagle. The last two are not used very often, but they ARE nicknames for the F16, especially in the beginning.

And the F35's official nickname is Lightning II, to ben exact.

Aw those guys have funn in the fjords of scandinavia. Saw one really low pass of a norway F16 during the Nato Airmeet 2001 when the German Air Force soccer team was in the final with the Norway team (or FC Trondheim dunno... ;) . One Normwegian F16 passed by as low that you could see the Instruments inb the cockpit. Norway won the match ;)

I mean most of the 4th generation fighters will still be around for sure, but for advancing nations they will be out of service, and "fourth and a half" generation fighters will be the main force and reserves (depending on nation and circumstance)but the 5 generation fighters have a video game like quality and the "5th an a half" generation will just be PC gaming extreme. Soon will watch UCAV's on youtube "fly low"
