Amazing use of sound textures - mixing 80s quirk with a Radiophonic Workshop ethic. One of the most innovative tracks from the period IMO. Fantastic record. And to think, both Barbara and Dave were part of the 70s Canterbury Prog scene. And both Dave Stewarts (the other being of course the other half of Eurythmics) were genuiuses (genii?) in their own ways.
Maybe you lot should look and check out the original .......put in simply doing nothing and click the Bing Crosby version...ot's worth it....then get the film...it's really a feel good film
I remember hearing this on the radio at the time and thinking 'what the hell is this?'. From that moment on every time it came on I grabbed the radio and listened intently.
It was also the last time I actually bought a single -everything else since then has been an anti climax!
If only ALL pop was as innovative and intelligent as this!
And exactly how many textures can you cram into one song Mr Stewart? Absolutely brilliant stuff and indeed, as already mentioned, he's an unsung hero of UK pop. Wish Stewart and Gaskin had done more.

I was lucky enough to catch these guys at North Star Bar in Philly back in1990. Probably their only tour of the US.

Loved this - remember trying to get hold of this back in the eighties. Was a video ever made for it?

Brilliant stuff -it goes to show that you can do pop intelligently and with fearsomely creative arrangements and use of the studio.
Dave's the unsung genius of pop -he's also a great jazz keyboard player (see Bruford for confirmation)
