@rrdab1 Actually, only a handful of supposed heretics were arrested during More's brief tenure - and scholarly opinion is divided over whether he favored any of the executions. He maintained on oath that he did not - and his biographers disagree. However, since the penalty had been in place for decades, he hardly was responsible. And what do 'suicide bombers' have to do with it? More did not take any innocent lives in standing firm on his principles. Most would consider that a major difference.

Actually he took many, one of whom was William Tyndale who was made a saint.

My point about suicide bombers is that people will always use their fanatical beliefs to justify their cruel actions. Thomas More is just one of many and, ultimately, he died clinging to those misguided beliefs, just as suicide bombers do.

@rrdab1 Thomas didn't kill anyone with his believes, unlike the king who is now quite justly judged to be the cruel madman to have demanded a male heir to his thrown. One of the greatest rulers of men were women, and one of them was named Elizabeth. England is a great example of what happens when you fuse Church and State, Iran is another, as was the Soviet Union.

@avyanez You call ME obtuse? I have "cracked" three books - as you so eloquently put it- and correlated the information. I suggest your research, and not take movies as fact. There are six well documented cases of More burning "heretics". One of which was Saint William Tyndale who More hated, and finally captured. He was burned in 1536. Oh, and by the way, I have read Utopia. It has some controversial ideas. But his literary work cannot detract from his state sanctioned barbarity.
