I could really use your advice, I really like the look of this game but I haven't really played any MMO's, does this game require some prior MMO playing or can anyone pick it up. I really like the look of the story :-)
It fails right out of the gate with an extremely outdated and limited character creation system coupled with an interface that looks like it was designed in the 90s and lacks any ability to customize (maybe that's changed). I also expected some kind of breakthrough combat system that was specific to using force powers, such as having to climb up a walker and use your saber to gut it. Something like God of War boss fights. Instead you wave your saber in front of the boss and damage happens.
as of now it feels like i'm wasting WoW time playing SWTOR. I'm a huge star wars fan, the game was fun, but it lacks a deep game mechanic. The game's going to get better most likely, but I'm playing WoW until then.
Combat and PVP are cookie cutter. Not sure why you said they're both unique. Am I missing something here? Nothing was done different in combat or pvp. Only thing I find intriguing are the compaions and the nice voice acting. Other than that its a dumbed down WoW clone. Fetch quests. Repetition etc. I'll be patient because it just launched...we shall see. And yes, no auto attack is fucking dumb.
@CannibalCorpse909 The Combat is much more dynamic and fast paced than WoW. I hate WoW PvP coz its really unbalanced and kinda boring when you can win a PvP match with 5-6 skills. WoW depends(Some of the time) on proc chances so in a way luck in involved in it and not pure skill.. SWTOR doesnt have all that. Its fast paced and well balanced game. The BGs are very innovative and i really cant wait to see other game types.

@darkz1820 We'll seeing as most commentators didn't do a video on DCUO then yes your right it was going to go free no one was buying it. Alot of well known commentators play this game therefore more people will buy it and pay for it. So don't expect it to go free for a long time.

The sad truth of SWTOR is that they invested 300m USD into the game & it neither excells at the story or as an MMO. Had they made the successor to Starwars galaxies, with emphasis on depth & content, e.g. a vast array of planets avaliable to explore with evolving PVP & quests dependant on where you are.
Instead EA has chosen to bridge the gap between single-player games & subscription based MMO's in order to inflate their proffit margins, by trapping unwitting players in a virtual skinner box.
Its pretty self evident this isn't an "unbiased" review because there is no critical analysis of the game beyond the superficial.
I hope the reviewer broadens his awareness if the multifaceted aspects of what makes an MMO and not just judge it on superficial merit, aka "is this just another wow clone".
I would strongly urge he spend 5-10 minutes reading up on behavioral psychology in games, and the lessons learned from B. F. Skinner.

Terrible game, its a single player game...Doesnt really feel like its a mmo, when the leveling feels like a boring grind in singleplayer that takes ages and then when you reach level cap its boring as shit and nothing to do. When they charge you the same amount of money per month as WoW does.......I mean look, compare what you get. I'll come back when they have some more multiplayer stuff and when the game is actually worth my time....And money.
I lost respect with this review when you said "the combat is fun". I'm sorry, where do you see the fun in this? There is a 0.5 second delay and it feels unpolished. Most of the time on my BH my abilities don't work. If you noticed, damage is not real time. If you use an ability, it's actually instant for some. You'll see an animation go through but the damage is already taken from the target so you can cancel that ability. You should learn about faults of the game first before you review.
My wife and I have played this game since release and nooo the graphics are not the best out there (compare to Rift). $15/month for a single player like game? Never should have been released until things like guild banks, guild halls, dungeon finders... I canceled my subscription withing 2 days of play.We feel like this game should have at least offered a little more than the old standards like Wow and EQ2. If someone wants us to pay a sub then we say offer more then we will.

I don't mean to be a douche or anything but DCUO (DCuniverseonline) has the same fast paced combat and combat and narrative quests (also free btw). I'm not pointing fingers or anything, and I also think old republic did a good job with this, but it wasn't the first.
I'm afraid bioware blew it with the voice acted missions... Don't get me wrong, it's a cool feature, and fairly enjoyable as well. But imagine when they want to patch the game, they'll have so much more to do, than any other MMO developers... 50% of the budget went to pay for the voice acting, and later on, I fear this will kill the game...

Yes it is a wow clone, actually Bioware has admitted to take "inspiration" from WoW. Since this is a EA published MMO it is most likely to flop.
WoW may be a EQ clone, but WoW was the first "quest-based" MMO to succeed, SWTOR offers nothing new.
I agree with everything, except for his complaints on auto attack. Also, if they don't have the swim mechanic fixed and make worlds that feel way more open, I'm going to kill Bioware.
Actually when you have a good heat gestion (=never go over 50 heat unless you got the cd ready) you only have to use your basic attack at regular intervals and not more than something like 2 times every 10 seconds, it's the same thing for every class the différence with sith and jedis as the blaster classes is that jedis/siths are forced to use their basic attack while we are not forced but end up using it as often ( except maybe for warriors/knights )

Played the Beta all the way up to 50 with Smuggler/Scoundrel and Operative/Sniper. I am a huge Star Wars fan. If you like games on rails and parting in groups of 4 buy it. If you want a sandbox feel and deep game mechanics don't. I found this games to be extremely enjoyable for 2 months and then had to force myself to play it after that.
@harlowsolid There are not many Betas that will give enjoyment for months. It's too bad you burned yourself out on a beta. Also it's a MMO so no it's not a sandbox game like GTA4.
@Surelog First off, enjoyed your video very much. However, GTA is a bad example since it is not a mmorpg. I'm not saying it has to be open choice as Galaxies or FFXI but the game is more on rails than any other mmorpg I have ever played. Game play is fun but lacks depth needed to have longevity. If they constantly update with new instances to keep game play fresh, I can see this game doing very well. I never said it was a bad game just that it is on rails and mainly focused around groups of 4.
@Surelog MMO's are supposed to be a step up from sandbox. I haven't played this game yet but I'll wait a few more months. Everyone should probably buy this game and enjoy leveling, but the reason why WoW lives and almost all other mmo's are dead or dying after 6 months of release is bad end game content. The game may still but good, but the intentions of the devs is that people continue playing.

all these crazy mmo abbreviations that i don't understand seem great... but does the story compare with that of kotor? that is the most important thing imo, since the developers keep insisting that it is 'kotor 3,4,5...etc' (bullshit). I just don't see how they can recapture what made kotor great: feeling like your choices/actions affect the entire galaxy, when there are millions of generic jedi/sith all as powerful as eachother... in kotor it made sense because of who your character was.
It wasn't meant to be an insult, Surelog, there was no implied elitism there. I just found you including the no auto-attack in the "negative" part to be superfluous as I believe it is one of the best inclusions in the game, especially in competitive PvP. Good luck to you.

This mmo is cool and all, but I don't get it...they took everything any other mmo has done right and put it in this. BUT! PvP is a complete boring and repetitive WoW/clones feel, Warhammer's PvP is still the best model of PvP i ever played, this game is perfect for it...but no. They make close instanced spaces and no open world PvP <= BIG MISTAKE. I hope they will put region/map dominance PvP later in game.
I wish Anarchy Online was alive again. It's a true statement though. In its prime it was way better than SWTOR as an MMO. I feel like SWTOR should have been a single player game. I'm already level 27, and I'm pretty disappointed with it thus far.

Yeah you don't get fps issues... I'm on lowest settings, shadows are fucking OFF ( sick of people asking) and am getting 1-15 fps.. I get like 4 in small caves and places like my ship, basically causing me to get killed by mobs and made me reroll. Sucks I can't afford a new computer and my old one broke. I still own pvp up though ;)
i played the beta as a bounty hunter and loved the combat for them, did a bit of pvp as well and had a blast. early access i made an imperial agent and i am loving the whole class questline for the class too. now im trying out a sith warrior.

I agree with you. I played most of the beta and the pre release for peeps who preordered and I can not seem to stop playing! Skyrim I love to death took a backseat for awhile. And as far as many races, I hope and will assume expansion pack will add more playable races.

I have been playing since the first were allowed and it is very well put together. Great effects and story line activity. But...in the end you all shall bow before me and call me the Jen'ari...down with the rebel scum.
seems like a fair review of course you review it in MMO standards where you could also review it in RPG standards. as for late game pvp is how it stands every flash point in the game has a hard mode that should keep the small groups busy. bigger raids people have been hit or miss on them pretty sure swtor has no huge 24 man or bigger groups is why. i dont see the why people love the big groups but people do.

@Surelog MMO's are supposed to be a step up from sandbox. I haven't played this game yet but I'll wait a few more months. I really think a lot of people are misunderstood because the game should begin at maxlevel. Everyone should probably buy this game and enjoy leveling, but the reason why WoW lives and almost all other mmo's are dead or dying after 6 months of release is bad end game content. The game may still but good, but the intentions of the devs is that people continue playing.

all these crazy mmo abbreviations that i don't understand seem great... but does the story compare with that of kotor? that is the most important thing imo, since the developers keep insisting that it is 'kotor 3,4,5...etc' (bullshit). I just don't see how they can recapture what made kotor great: feeling like your choices/actions affect the entire galaxy, when there are millions of generic jedi/sith all as powerful as eachother... in kotor it made sense because of who your character was.

It wasn't meant to be an insult, Surelog, there was no implied elitism there. I just found you including the no auto-attack in the "negative" part to be superfluous as I believe it is one of the best inclusions in the game, especially in competitive PvP. Good luck to you.

This mmo is cool and all, but I don't get it...they took everything any other mmo has done right and put it in this. BUT! PvP is a complete boring and repetitive WoW/clones feel, Warhammer's PvP is still the best model of PvP i ever played, this game is perfect for it...but no. They make close instanced spaces and no open world PvP <= BIG MISTAKE. I hope they will put region/map dominance PvP later in game.

I wish Anarchy Online was alive again. It's a true statement though. In its prime it was way better than SWTOR as an MMO. I feel like SWTOR should have been a single player game. I'm already level 27, and I'm pretty disappointed with it thus far.

I have 1 complaint! its too popular!!!!! I bought the game (there was only 3 copies left) But the town i live in and the towns at least 30 minutes away Are all sold out of the pre paid time cards i got the game and its downloaded but i cant play. no time cards left and i don't have a credit card =(

Yeah you don't get fps issues... I'm on lowest settings, shadows are fucking OFF ( sick of people asking) and am getting 1-15 fps.. I get like 4 in small caves and places like my ship, basically causing me to get killed by mobs and made me reroll. Sucks I can't afford a new computer and my old one broke. I still own pvp up though ;)

i played the beta as a bounty hunter and loved the combat for them, did a bit of pvp as well and had a blast. early access i made an imperial agent and i am loving the whole class questline for the class too. now im trying out a sith warrior.

I agree with you. I played most of the beta and the pre release for peeps who preordered and I can not seem to stop playing! Skyrim I love to death took a backseat for awhile. And as far as many races, I hope and will assume expansion pack will add more playable races.

seems like a fair review of course you review it in MMO standards where you could also review it in RPG standards. as for late game pvp is how it stands every flash point in the game has a hard mode that should keep the small groups busy. bigger raids people have been hit or miss on them pretty sure swtor has no huge 24 man or bigger groups is why. i dont see the why people love the big groups but people do.
