I loved that Oiler squad. What a roster. It was brilliant, no superstar to lead the way, just a whole team of devoted players who played those games like their last. Coming in in 8th... who would have guessed they could go so far. I was overjoyed when they beat Detroit since the feat appeared impossible. And yet it seemed each series became more and more unlikely. Carolina in the final seemed like a gift... but no. Another group of devoted fellas + a blunder in last 30 sec of game 1. Still sad.
evryone stop saying the oilers wouldve won with roli.plz tel me wich game we couldve won with roli.lets look at all the games we lost.game 1,we blew a 3-0 lead, and roli let in 3goals in 10min so highly unlikly.game 2,almost imposible, and the reason is obvious.game4,markanen alrdy did awsome but i gues theres a chance.game 7,again its posible but stil unlikly.game1 chance with roli wuld be like 5-95,game2 3/97,game4 30/70,game7 like 25/75. shutup im a oil fan too, the odds are just my predictions
Canadian hockey fans complain that the Ottawa Senators lost to the Anaheim Ducks in only 5 games. They say that at least the Flames (2004) and the Oilers (2006) lost their series in 7. Well my response is that the Ottawa Senators lost to a much tougher team. The 2004 Lightning and 2006 Hurricanes "pale" in comparison to the 2007 Ducks. The Ducks would've killed those teams. Hell I think the 2007 Senators could've beaten the 2004 Lightnings and 2006 Hurricanes.
this was my first full year of watching hockey i followed the oiler from the start to the finish and i was so hyped in the playoffs when we lost in game 7 i got so upset im hoping the kidsd can do something in a few years
first they injured koivu and got thru then they got lucky facing a decimatted defence line in buffalo and it took them 7 games to win then andrew ladd that son of a whore jumps on roli and hurts him. THEY DEFINITELY GOT LUCKY. they swindled the oil out of a cup for some town full of inbred hicks
Is it just me or was that bum stillman finally exposed for being the garbage hockey player that he is? he feathered that puck to pisani, he deserves an assist on the play. Never really noticed how bad that play was until now.
@icyhell1 What glove you useless piece of garbage. He was grabbing his crotch at MacTavish and the coaching staff you blind fuck. Get a pair of glasses in fact, get 2 pairs and have another look at it. lol
@GoLeafsGoBaby just beacuse carolina isnt a big hockey market doesnt mean they didnt deserve it, the canes wanted it just as much as edmonton, dumbshit
@DARKRAZ3R You don't give the cup to the canes, hockey is dead in Carolina...Plain and simple....If a team needs a cup to resurrect a city/team, the NHL will do it.....Watch this year, Phoenix will win it..
@FFJabarr no. Sorry but the only reason they won the cup is because of a combination of ty conklin shitting the bed in game 1 and gary bettman not wanting a canadian team to win. The fact that they won does not mean that they deserved it more. That has to be the most retarded argument I've ever heard.
@FFJabarr naaa Carolina got so lucky with injuries to every other team that playoff run - they were good but if the Sabres didn't get the injury bug in round 3 they would've destroyed the Canes that year...and if Roloson didn't get injured we would've won for sure.
@ryannfld i agree. Markkanen did a great job in that series, and i'm sure had they not played conklin in game 2 they just might have won it with Markkanen too. But the turning point was the injury to Roloson and what MacT did after. Conklin was horrendous that year.
He is just like Hossa. Getting ripped off on teams that dont win stanley cups. Lol Edmonton in this series, Penguins in 08, Detroit in 09, and i probably missed some other teams

yeah i have a question why are you trying to talk yourself out of your faggot comment w/ useless bullshit that has nothign to do with what you said lol.
This oilers 06 playoff run was one of the greatest underdog runs. Yes, it's too bad they lost gm 7 but it was magical. Markkanen filling in for injured Roloson played amazing. 8th seeded oilers took out stanley cup champs red wings, sharks, ducks, and took canes to 7 gms. Not even an oilers fans but this run inspired me and seriously, oilers have the loudest and best fans in nhl.
I was the same way dude I started cheering for the oil a bit before the playoffs and I must say them going to the Final even though they didn't win it was one of the best Hockey memories I have ever experienced and I'll remember it for as long as I live.
@breakaway2x It's actually been proven on the TV show, that the United Center, blackhawk fans are the loudest in the NHL. But the loudest stadium is Barcelona after Barcelona scores agoal.
This is the Oils greatest goal of modern era. It even tops Patrick Stefan missing the empty net for Dallas, and then hemsky scoring with one second to go earlier that same season. Seeing the turnover and hearing bob cole say, ' Here's a break! IT IS PISANI... SCORES!!' my god, truly amazing! what a goal! The oilers fan jumping behind the bench in a sea of canes fans lol!!! priceless moment
Whoa Bro! This is a great goal and a great call, but the greatest Oils goal of modern era? I don't know what year your modern era starts but Marchant's goal in double OT against Dallas, game 7, 1997 was probably the best Oils and most important goal of any era . Joseph stunned the Stars long enough for Marchant to score. Stunning goal and a great call by Bob Cole.
Alright settle down. I rephrase to post-lockout. Find me a bigger, more important goal, post lockout.
I'd have to agree though, that Marchant's goal was great. He had his jets turned on and made Hatcher (was it Hatcher? dunno) look like a fuckin statue. Beautiful shot. Amazing goal, and an amazing call by Bob as usual.
Bob Cole was much better back then, Now he's just irritating to listen to. But CBC will always be the best station for hockey games, and yes it was hatcher
i think this one is slightly better because they were down in the series 3-1 in the stanley cup FINALS. It is a steal short handed in OT to continue the quest for the cup in what would have been the greatest run if they won it. upsetting the wings. coming back down 2-0 against the sharks. winning all three away games against the ducks to win the series in 5. and if they won game seven they would have come back against a 3-1 deficit. with all series starting on away ice being the under dogs.
we have to cheer though like cmon rexall is quiet pretty much all game except when they score now. thats not exactly showing them we care. 6 games left cheer at all of them :P
bob cole just fine, he's the eastern canadian teams announcer, who only was doing these games cause the Oilers are the only canadian team left. CBC is kinda eastern oriented the other two guys don't even work for CBC there some shleps for other stations. bob is very calm not panicky like those other two
f*** u gmls, mactavish is an amazing coach, they've just been unlucky. If roli wasn't injured, done deal. So u can go suck ur thumb and watch watever team u like lose.
The Oilers will be back in the cup finals. Just a matter of time...

bob cole just fine, he's the eastern canadian teams announcer, who only was doing these games cause the Oilers are the only canadian team left. CBC is kinda eastern oriented the other two guys don't even work for CBC there some shleps for other stations. bob is very calm not panicky like those other two

That is Bob Cole of Hockey Night In Canada. I find him to be an exciting broadcaster.
