@toledano123 you clearly have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. The industry is managed very well, and scallops are harvested in a very sustainable way. Also, scallop dredging a bottom that is subject to high levels of natural disturbance and that has been historically fished has been shown in fact proven to increase productivity. I would have no problem referring you to the associated research publications if you actually want some knowledge about this,
Wow some of these comments are dumb. Who cares what there doing its there job im sure everyone here likes seafood, well they dont pull it out there ass.
i been at this 14 years full time i see more rocks and seaweed then ive ever seen bottles fossils or any debre i see more underwater life then junkk us fishermen work harder then anyone else and thats thatt
turddano how many trips have you made scalloping? You don't have to answer, we don't take pussies fishing, and until you know what your talking about SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU LITTLE CUNT.
Hey Dumbasses listen up!! Trawling IS the most efficient way to fish. No-one points a finger at farmer John who stripped all the natural trees and grasses from his land and planted corn! And displaced all the critters who once lived there!! The earth is 5/8's water and you landlubbers give us no end of grief. You build your houses and malls on the choicest farmland and leave the barren land barren!! We drag the same piece of ground year after year! And the fisheries in Alaska ARE sustainable!
@ConvairDart106 The ocean may cover more of the earth but most of it is barren. Dragging is an environmentally devastating practice and is indiscriminate . The earth cant naturally produce enough to feed the worlds vast consumption without farming. Don't kid yourself. You are right about the land ecosystem destruction, we've paved North America and cut down all the trees in 100 years. thanx 4 the scallops...
Don't even kid yourself, most bycatch dies. Not even a question, as for making a living by scratching the scraps out from under the rich fuck's shoes, only thing we can do for now.
I like how people say "they are just making a living". Kind of resembles when mold hops onto an old apple and says to his buddy "hey buddy, did you watch the superbowl last weekend? munch munch munch". Just making a living.
nobody realizes that the majority of the bycatch is unharmed and goes back in the ocean and if any of you actually went scallop fishing you would understand this but instead you just go around trying to impose your ignorant opinions on peoples videos if your so worried about the environment actually go do something about it instead of annoying people trying to make a living
@MATADJ1 you don't know shit... you probably like a thousand miles from the ocean or you live right by it and are to lazy to do the hard work it takes to feed your ass!!!
There's scallop and bacon, scallop fry, scallop saute, scallop with crumbs, baked scallops, pan seared scallops, stuffed scallops, and the ULTIMATE raw scallop. THE BEARDED SCALLOP! And it's not SKALIP it's SKAUL-UP. Thanks to the guys who work and spend many days away from home to bring us the treasure of the sea!!! The SCALLOP! Thanks.
im glad you know your facts. all these ignorant people are trying to bash your way of life and im glad that it doesnt phase you. keep fishing man. live life
Great vid, I worked on a scallop boat in the North sea for 3 years but we used smaller dredges than this one, we had 6 a side , we didnt catch as much scallops in 1 tow either- thats a belter o a tow :)
Saw a comment that mentioned bycatch, do you see any bycatch, NO ! straight scallops and how is dredging tearing up straight sand on the ocean floor ? Yes this will eventually be banned along with every other commercial fishing practice, not by overfishing but by special interest groups and possibly data that is solely backed by estimations and predictions, not by facts. !!! Great vid , yummy ! Just had a belly full for dinner , great job guys, keep em coming to my dinner table !
just watching that tow made me want to commit suicide...ive only been on a few trips and was only averaging... i wanna say 23 bushels....how many u think that was and how long was the tow?
listen all u sad f*****s.dredging is doing no harm it like turning the soil. to grow more veg.england has more bullshit coming from the states like closed areas.what good has come for there lipsn ass burgers from mcdonalds ,kfc fast food f**k UP.FISH is the future to health mind and body its a proven superfood.but the goverment is ruining are fishing.maybe one day we will all be eating nuts
There fishery will end up like californias Banned. They will have to find a alternative to scaping the botton and killing bi catch. Sorry but this kind of fishing is not sustainable. But they dont care its money in there pockets for the time being.
you lot sicken me... any idea what you're doing to the sea bed?... they should ban you and only allowing diving... you're scum... hope somebody dredges your neighborhood some day and smashes your children to pieces
i fish in canada around southern NB nice tow and keep good work god loves you

I think you mix between traweling and towing. Indeed there is no ecological fishing.
Remeber that American Fisherman nourish USA with seafoods since more than 400 years.
Towing damage unfortunately: it is just used on sandy places; where there is no harm for fishes and flora/

Anyone who says dragging doesn't disturb the bottom either has no clue what they are talking about our they are. Dragging needs to be outlawed NOW !
Sirobb: you can't just plough and weed the bottom like a crop on a field.

No it didn't, the block hangs on the picking wire while towing, it gets disconnected to dump the dredge.
capeace13 1 year ago
Morons, thieves and smugglers. The bycatch exceeds the real catch by 66%.
Boats must end in the scap dockyard for this is no real sustainable way of dealing with the oceans.
