Interesting video! Thanks for sharing it. Question about the last couple of minutes when you harvested that fallen Cottonwood for the hearth. Do you keep one side rounded or do you shave off the other side to make a flat plank?
@antpop1 I prefer to flatten out my hearths. If its a thick piece, I'll baton split it along both sides to cut out a plank a little less than 1" thick. If its a smaller piece, I'll baton split one part of the round to get that side flat and on the other just shave the round off with my knife. My buddy prefers to start his divot on the round side, I always prefer doing it in the side closest to the center as I figure that is going to be the driest part of the wood.
