I just read on Wikipedia that in Papua New-Guinea, which is on the eastern half is the largest island in Indonesia (a predominantly Muslim nation with millions of people) over 96% of the residents belong to Christianity according to their 2000 census. While those residents are dozens of separate sects (which is one of the reasons I myself am a skeptic of Christianity) their government does discourage Islam. I must say I wish all nations followed this example generations ago.

The problem with the Muslims in Thailand has more to do with ethnic origin than with Islam itself. These 3 provinces of Thailand was an independent nation with its own ruler. It was well known in antiquity that they were great merchants, and seafarers. It established trade routes with China, India,and other Malay states in Indonesia and Malaysia. The people adopted Islam. It is like the Palestinians wanting their landownership back from the European who took over Palestine through Zionism.
