@BrettLovesLlama To activate the light sequence Launchpad shown at the end of the video press the session, user 1, user 2, mixer and downward arrow buttons simultaneously. Do the same to deactivate.

@HelasTV The Launchpad sends a MIDI signal to Live via the USB connection. In user 1 mode standard MIDI note messages are transmitted when the buttons are pressed.

@coolicol31 ok. go to 7:34 you see on the left how he has those rectangle things under drums?? each one coresponds to a button. when he presses a button notice how the triangle in the rectangle changes to the green color? that means the track is going to play. now youll see the square on the launchpad change color as well. when its green that means its playing and when its that yellow color that means you can click on it to play it.

It's just premapped for Ableton, i suppose if you remap it through "Automap" You can use it with Propellerhead's Reason, FL Studio e.t.c

@DJQdot You can either (a) set the drums to be controlled only by the Launchpad and your other instruments to be controlled by other MIDI inputs on the I/O settings at the bottom of the instruments' columns, or (b) only arm the drum rack for recording when you play, so that input to other Live instruments will be ignored.

I'm also making a PDF write-up to go with it explaining use of FX and a couple extra tidbits I added. LiveControl and touchOSC killed the midi controller. Launchpad is cheap and not inventive, apc40 should be bus powered with the ability to use for drum pads, the only ableton controller that isn't flawed at some point is an iPad running the proper software.

The Akai APC40 is where it's at, but the APC20 is nicer than the Launchpad and costs around the same amount. I don't have any affiliation with Akai, and don't own either controller, I'm just saying this thing looks like a pain in the ass with less features for the same price.

@lusidghost Launchpads don't need their own power leads. They can run off of a USB hub, too. Some of us are very aesthetic-minded as well. :) I like having a symmetrical 8x8 grid. I also like that it's bigger than the APC40's grid altogether. A korg nanokontrol plus a launchpad is cheaper than one APC40 and depending on your needs can suffice. Just look online, lots of videos of people doing just fine with launchpads, or APC40.

Love my Novation LaunchPAD and Ableton Live 8.2 ! One thing that could improve the LaunchPAD is pressure sensitive pads (velocity)... Using Reason ReWired into Live and freaking loving it and blowing my mind with a reach-around...
