@Scott89119 agreed Nancy was a very good skater but I wouldn't exactly call skating to ' Born on the Fourth of July' ugly music.
Now if you're speaking of ugly music-almost the entire time she skated-Tonya Harding wins the prize. Such a shame. She had such natural talent but didn't want to put in the necessary work.
As a kid I would watch pro figure skaters just to see the ladies in their short skirts. I admit this. But now that I see the drive and hard work these people put into the sport and I really have to admire their tenacity and strength. I can see that they loved doing this. And in this clip the commentators did not talk too long.
a spiral held out that long for a dramatic effect would be worthless in the new system since there's no change in position/edge bla bla bla. maaaan I miss the old days
It's good for her 1st world championship, but she always left something out or popped jumps on the international level anyway. But was happy for her family and for her. Being part of history-this was the first sweep ever of the Ladies' Event-at Worlds and that merits something. She came home with a medal.
Pretty sad how back then we had a dominate team that produced the only sweep in the history of the ladies event at worlds and now we can barely get our skaters in the top ten.
I agree. I think there's too much focus on doing exhibitions-for financial incentives-these kids train and tour year round. There used to be a few competitions in the fall-then train for Nationals':try and make it to Worlds.'This new scoring system really stinks as well. It's Skating-where's the incentive for artistry? It's gone.Everyones' program is so predictable. Trying for triple axel; then the catch foot that EVERYONE does. It's like the Indy 500-only on skates.
Don't these morons running the ISU understand that because they've made it all about the jumps and taken the artistry away that skating is in the toliet right about now except for the asian countries? If people want to see jumping they'll go see the men. But people want more then that from the girls. They want elegance grace and personality which is in short supply right now becaise the shitty scoring system doesn't allow for that.
The system also doesn't allow for a cleanly skated FP to trump one filled w/2 foot landings and other hogwash. All because they " attempted it." What kind of B.S. is that?I say I'm going to attempt a quad toe and hurl myself up in the air, then splat on the ice-what's nice @ watching that. You recall this Worlds' that's exactly what happened.Last girl to skate her FP did everything, nothing popped,no 2 footed landings-she finished 4th.Awesome ISU-you did it again-making skating a laughing stock.
she did fair but not great I never knew now how chezzy the choreography is. But her problem her was that she didn't let her free leg move in time after she complete the rotation even on the Lutz you can tell she barely had time to check out of the landing.
I doubt it very much. Midori landed a late triple axel and both Kristi and Midori's Olympic skates had way more technical content than this even with their mistakes, and of course Nancy had mistakes here too.
Her dress looks really similar to Yuna's at 09 worlds sp!

I would say most people over 30 dont watch skating anymore because of the new rules.

@libralady1010 I agree - Tonya had the most awesome skating skills and the crappiest music save for one of the LPs from this year.

@Scott89119 I dont agree I loved her SPs with the original music, they highlighted every element.

If goddesses skated like mannequins with no emotion or expression.

She farted.

It's really shocking that Nancy ever beat Tonya at any skating event. Watching Nancy is like watching paint dry in comparison to Tonya and Kristi.

err the 1994 Olympics, Nancy got 2nd and Tonya got like 8th
yngtxtopbear 2 years ago
Yeah, as opposed to the amazing flow and grace that Tonya had? Please. Watching Tonya skate is PAINFUL.

She has such a nice polish to her skating.

I think this is the best she skated until the 94 Olympics

I know there's not a lot of artistry to this program, but there's something about it that I really love

right music, right skater, right moment?

Midori Ito would have excelled with the new system in place now that puts athletics above artistry.

she's a really beautiful jumper - she's so straight in the air and always has such a graceful stance as she glides out of the jump

This is good. She was always a good skater, she just had a bad habit of cracking under the pressure.

Second sections she looks like a pole dancer!
mk146hw 4 years ago
I would call this her second best lp performance in any major competition - is that an overstatement?
If she had done even this much at 93 worlds, we would've had three spots in olympics and worlds in 1994
cms8884169 4 years ago
piruetten 93 was probably her second best program to her olympic lp, I think. She did a good job here though.
pspruce18 4 years ago
A BEAUTIFUL program and she performed well. If only she had performed this well, at the 92 olympics she probably would have taken the silver home.
