Ken, I still love this vlog six months later! WHEN OH WHEN will you do another?!? Hey, I still like the chocolate steak vlog? How about another bbq vlog? PLEASE?!?!?!
just love to see u having ur lunch. . but im unable to see ur food clearly tis time due to d glare. so, u failed to make me drool. haha. . im waiting for ur #3 lunch.
Yeah, between the glare in the original footage, and then the damage that YouTube rendering imposes, it doesn't look as good here as it did that day. I need to figure out better in-car lighting... but, thanks!
Ken, you have piqued my curiousity....I HAVE to try one now!!! When you first describe it, yeah...doesn't sound too good (although I DO put garbanzo beans in my chicken soup), but when you showed how green it is, that got me...gotta try it now. THANKS!!!
Oh, yeah, it's garbanzo's with cilantro, onions, cumin, and all sorts of yummy things. Then deep fried. And anything deep fried has got to be good ;^)
I've been going to Falafel's Drive In for over 40 years. When I lived in Santa Cruz I used to drive over to San Jose just to get the Special... large falafel and a fresh banana shake.... Now that I live back in San Jose I make it here for lunch at least twice a month. Most definitely the best in town... or anywhere.
You should have shown the noon time lunch line, which can get quite long.
Lunch for me was a turkey sandwich... I have a ton of leftovers from TDAY!!! That's a delicious looking sandwich!!! How can you talk about a colonoscopy at lunch!?! LOL (I'd be interested on hearing your opinions on algorithmic demotion - censorship?, BTW!!!)
Mmmmm.... Naanwich! That sounds excellent! We've got a place that does a tandoori chicken naan wrap, but not the butter chicken. Damn, I'm hungry again!
Seemed like it must have been wonderful day out there. I liked the music and video in general - so relaxing. Hope to "have lunch with you" soon again :P
Follow the link to Jason's channel (audionautix), and he's got several videos with samples of his music and links to the download files for you to use in vlogs (properly credited, of course).
Whoah, a bit surprised by the quickness of your response. Am up late. No work tomorrow.
When I lived in Australia, I loved that kind of food. Here in Japan, or at least this part of it, unfortunately not available. Plenty available in London.
More available in recent time in NZ, where I am from. Where fish and chips or meat pies were traditional most popular as takeaway foods. Seriously high calories.
My above message my first time to respond to you Ken. But have long held you in high regard.
Felafel drive in? Wow, I have never heard of such a thing :) The only time I ever had felafel it was kinda nasty...maybe it was bad felafel but I had nothing to compare to. Tasted a little bitter.
Falafel, never heard of it - how can something that is deep-fried be healthy, Ken?!!
btw LOVE this comment above mine "Hey I'm a real tree hugger. Plants are living creatures with thoughts and emotions. And I really take issue with some of the comments about your enjoyment of murdering living legumes for your dietary pleasure. I for one find it quite barbaric." Not sure if it is a serious comment or not but it tickled me anyway!:)
No falafel over there? Too bad... next time you're on this side of the pond we'll get you some.
And, yes, the anti-veggie movement is getting really strong. If you join our club we'll send you a sticker that says "Saved Plants; Ate Meat" (well, actually, just the acronym for that).
When I left the house yesterday morning, it was cold and drizzly and in the mid-50s. By the time I got to lunch it cleared up (for a while) and was close to 70.
I'd love to do a vegie supersize me! Show the dangers of cutting out all meat proteins and fats from your diet! Not to mention how when you go all veggie you never stop farting and pooping.
Homemade falafel never really cuts the mustard, so to speak. And, frankly, neither does falafel from a fancy restaurant. You're right, it's one of those things that's best from a slightly funky looking outlet. I like eating on the edge ;^)
Too bad the sun was so bright one could barely make out what's in there. You should definitely switch to artificial lighting and just turn off the sun. Who needs it anyways, right?
The worst thing about the darn sun is that it keeps moving. You get your shot set up perfectly, and then between it's constant shifting and the clouds going in and out, and you're entire vlog is ruined. I'm never leaving the house again.
I absolutely love these natural vlogs from you. A long time ago it was my dream to have a dinnerwithjohn channel and it never materialized. But if I would have launched it, it would never have been as good as this. You're great Ken! Kenrgggggggggggg ;) - John
I've come to realize that food has been a major theme in my vlogs, even when not the obvious topic or activity - it always looms in the background. DinnerwithJohn would have rocked!
I actually talked more about VH in the full 18 minutes of eating and gabbing, but by the time I managed to edit it to under 7 minutes, all that was left was when the founders all met in SF last February. Now, go and have a falafel and a colonoscopy...
Mexican. Pizza is so controversial/subjective.. Plus, I've been curious about the mexican food in your area. Most of what I've seen is very americanized (and i happen to like that) but I also respect an authentic place.
Hey I'm a real tree hugger. Plants are living creatures with thoughts and emotions. And I really take issue with some of the comments about your enjoyment of murdering living legumes for your dietary pleasure. I for one find it quite barbaric.
I know. At least a cow has a chance to run away, not like those poor plants, stuck in the ground with no exit. But I'm just a cruel bastard and I accept it.
I'm not too fond of veal, so it's easy to boycott. But fois gras is one life's great guilty pleasures, maybe with some mission figs and balsamic drizzle... (can I have that for breakfast?)
These vids make me so hungry!! And it makes me miss the falafels of my home town, Melbourne, which has a large Greek and Middle Eastern population - they used to put these wonderful pink pickles in them -WOW! Food, hmmm!
Pink pickles? Were they pickled beets? Or maybe even pickled radishes? The only pink or red pickles (of the cucumber variety) that I know of are a peculiar sweet Southern pickle that's soaked in KoolAid.
I was thinking about the that fantastic looking steakburger the whole time I was watching you eat the Falafel. Looking forward to your next GastroVlog!
Thanks - And you're probably right: "falafel" is fun to say, and that certainly adds to the enjoyment of the meal. Whereas just the sound of "asparagus" lets you know you're in for something scary ;^)
I had a colonoscopy about 4 years ago. It was so much fun! They diagnosed me with Ulcerative Colitis, and I'm supposed to have regular checkups. I should probably go get one soon, buy not having health insurance makes that hard. :(

My dad used to as well... well, back in the 70's when he was an Atari employee.
My friends and I eat there whenever is suits us.

Noon Line!?
OMG, it's insufferable, you want some Falafel gooness, but have to wait for the better part of a century to get some.
I've seen people starve to death in the noon line!
iluvmyveedub 3 years ago
The Falafel looks so decadent.
P3rf3ctStorm 3 years ago
Decadent, yes - But I can justify it as healthy eating. Talk about your win-win situations :^)

Algorithmic demotion - what a term! I can't wait to algorithmically demoted. It sounds like it's almost as much fun as a colonoscopy!

flat bread and garlic hummus my fav for lunch. I guess it is health along with other Mediterranean food. :) falafel is not that bad :)

Just wondering what s falafel weighs. Seems like quite a few kilocalories. :)
