Nobody has ever understand how to "perform" on the trumpet as well as Maynard Ferguson. Absolute "understated bravura." Stan Kenton was right when he said, "Maynard - someday you'll be King." He absolutely was for over 50 years.
He's right of course - us Lead Trumpet Players rule - we are certainly the "icing on the cake"! And MF was our mentor, inspiration, true Hero, and King of us all, and proved it everytime he picked up a Horn.
What a worthy role-model he is, in every way! I started playing Trumpet in the 70's because of him (as did many others), and tried my best to emulate him. My degree of success brought me many of my proudest and happiest moments in my life as I played his parts in my college JazzBand. They
hi there, i was listening to the song and i have to say that maynard was brilliant. he was on top form as usual and the atmosphere was great. R.I.P Maynard. You will be dearly missed.
How can you not love Maynard? As Arturo said at the MF tribute in St. Louis..."My Hero"...And it's not just about his playing, which speaks for itself...
hi i read your comment and i totally agree. i only found out about maynard after his death and was intreeged by him being a trumpet player myself. i know one thing for sure he is my hero and always will be. he will be dearly missed. R.I.P maynard!

Seeing MF perform during this era makes me smile. Around my high school years. I miss him live. Thankfully youtube is there to preserve some of it.

This is one of my favorite bands that Maynard had assembled in recent years. These guys really swung and played really musically.
