It was on this beach in Sept 1860 that the bodies of those who drowned in the Lady Elgin Steamer dollision were washed ashore. These included Herbert Ingram MP of Boston Lincolnshire England...his 15yr old son Herbert was not recovered. Herbert Ingram Snr founded the first true illustrated newspaper The Illustrated London News as well as helping finance The Great Eastern Paddle Steamer by Isambard Kingdon Brunel which laid the first telegraph cables from UK to USA., He is buried Boston UK
