I like this variant on the California Sushi Roll. I might try it in addition to the original one. I'm craving one and I don't want to go to the story and buy them whenever the craving hits me.
No, you must use short grain rice (long grain or "regular rice" will not stick together and will not work for sushi). Google: "Minado's Perfect Sushi Rice" for a good rice recipe. From there its ELEMENTARY my friend.
i make sushi about once a week, and i think i do an okay job. i came online to see how differnt people do it to see if i can make mine better or prettier. i've never seen someone use cream cheese so i'm going to try that today.
Cream Cheese is pretty popular at the place i work, it is only used in the "Philly roll" if you order sushi how it comes, but a lot of people like it with tempura rolls, or unagi rolls. Its very good :)
i really like this video 5/5 its fun seeing non sushi chefs make sushi and do a good job.
When you cut your cucumber, just try splitting it in half and spooning out the seeds, might be a little easier than cutting out the middle.
-I am a sushi chef, i will give you a tip if i may ;)
-If you are having problems with things sticking to your cutting board, take a chunk of avocado and rub it in to your cutting board until your board is covered with it. Then take a damp cloth and rub most of it off. Rub it hard so that you get all of the loose avo off. Your board should still be somewhat green, however stuff shouldnt stick as bad anymore.
make sure to wipe it off good or your rice will turn green ;)
I don't think i've ever seen the seaweed/Nori on the inside of the roll before but it looks good. The video explained things well, nice clear voice, easy to follow, nice one :D
not always as you can see- sushi is pretty much universal now and the way people prepare it they get creative and experiment with different styles. He used shrimp instead of crab, and nori inside instead of out.....I don't think the sushi police will write you a ticket or anything if you don't do it the way it was first made years ago. ;)
is it me or did you say there were 4 pieces at the end? xD not that i think it's relevant anyway... i liked the video it was pretty original and clear! thanks for sharing =)
you have to use either "sticky rice" or rice thats labeled with "sushi rice. once you have that rinse the starch off the rice with cool water. it helps if you have a rice cooker but either way follow the directions on the bag. i heard that puting white vinegar in the water while its cooking helps too, only 1-2 tbls per cup o water
Pretty good. I find that using a sharp non-serrated knife works alot better to cut the roll, as it will slice rather than rip, giving a cleaner cut... But a pretty good video for the sushi-curious out there.
Great job! Best on youtube.

can i use regular rice?
princesssandie 3 years ago
Buy the chinese rice, don't buy the one that looks like american bagged. There is a way to make sticky rice, but easier to buy it.

You have to use short grain rice. It sticks together better than medium or long grain.

so you put white or rice vinegar in the water for cooking sushi rice. i used to put sake or mirin in the water for cooking sushi rice.

Actually sushi literally means "vinigared rice". So this is sushi. Remember is the rice treatment not the toppings that count.
