where's vick? yeah the guy went to prison, but damn. he can throw AND run. nobody on the list even come close to the athletic ability or decision making of michael vick.
To my opinion, cause Aikman, without a team like the he got that years,I dont he can win a superbowl, and Young was a great quarterback, but just that, not for all times
I happen to know both Ronnie Lott and Jerry Rice and you ask them to put this list together and they will say Joe Montana is number one and the rest you can talk about but it just doesn't matter. Joe's number was 16 and Young's 8 'nuff said! The rfacts are Joe won 4 Super Bowls and did that without a single interception and with a 130 passer rating! And the guy that caught a lot of those passes says Joe Montana was the BEST! I say Jerry Rice is right! The rest don't matter!
Any list without Montana at the top is an amatuer effort. The facts are the facts four Super Bowls with not a single interception thrown. And a mastery of some of the best teams ever coached by a master Bill Walsh show the results of a man who had mastered the game and his competitors. Like a great race driver who knows you have to have a great team behind you but finally when you are behind the wheel YOU have to drive the car to win Montana DROVE the 49er teams with an unmatched mastery!
of course brady beats marino. and when it's all said and done he probably is number one on this list. also namath's stats were complete shit. granted rules were a little different back then for what cornerbacks could and couldn't do when covering wideouts, but still a career passer rating of 65.5 and throwing 47 more Ints. than Tds shows just how overrated he was and still is.
@patsfandoce I agree with your list COMPLETELY: appearing in, and winning, four superbowls in a decade; never throwing a single interception in those SUPERBOWLS, and compiling a passer rating of almost 130 in those combined SUPERBOWL wins certainly qualifies Joe "Cool" as the greatest quarterback there ever was, is, and probably ever will be. He's the best of the best ... period! Manning's career stats are superior, but as Belichick said: stats are for losers, the final score is for winners!
@patsfandoce Your fucking dumb bro Marino is a more accurate and smarting quaterback in the game and ya brady does have like 3 rings which is huge and brady is a real good qb but not better then Marino ur completely ignorant and dumb, Brady will never be the Passer Dan Marino was.

Elways number 2 why?? Bc he won 2 SuperBowls thanks to Terrell Davis carrying him there. Come give Dan Marino T.D. and he wins 2. Flip Elway with Marino and I'd think you'd have a better list..Also get Troy Aikman out of there Roger Staubach was a better Cowboy QB than him look at the stats he had like 15 td's more than picks in his career
He won with Solomon and Clark as his WR's his first two SB's. His (9ers) RB was Ricky Patton his 1st SB and barely ran for 500 yds. Montana won with a very average KC team when he left the 9ers. You didn't see that with Marino, Elway, etc.
Montana is clutch, nimble, could beat you with his arm, feet, or smarts.
Here is the real list little boys...most of you fags never even saw marino, montana, elway in their prime. 1. Dan Marino ( Played on teams with no running backs and no defence. would have won 6 super bowls if he played with 49ers. also think about if he had won just one superbowl is there any question he would be #1 2.Joe Montana 3. John Elway 4. Johnny Unitas 5.Brett Favre 6.Terry Bradshaw 7. Roger starbuck 8. Tom Brady 9. Fran Tarkentons 10.Bart Starr
Manning is way overrated. all he looks to do is throw short passes...This guy Butchers any long passes....top 10 qb of all time? hell no...Joe Montana would have scored a td easy in that spot
dan marino is the best qb in the history on the nfl he had shit dfrense shit o line and shit recievers and dont even mention the dolphins running game..
Marino never had the team or system behind him like Montana,Elway,Manning,Bradshaw ,Aikman, etc. I've watch the best for 40years and Marino hands down wins it
My problem with Peyton Manning, Tom Brady is the rules have changed now to an offensive league so their stats are well inflated here. Back when Marino, Montana, Elway played the League was geared toward Defense. What Marino did to the 85 Bears is legendary. I watched that game and so did the whole nation and Marino took them apart. KIDS Remember the name DAN MARINO beacuse that's the best quarterback that ever lived
tom brady doesnt even make my top ten. peyton is best quarterback of all time right now and he is only what, 32? tom brady had one of the best teams in NFL history handed to him. He didnt earn his spot, it was given to him. Peyton had the worse team in the nfl. he now has the best team in the nfl and he built it all by himself. favre is a cry baby, so he should only be 4 or 5, joe montana second, then the rest are tossups with a lot of great players. again, peyton is easily best of all time
payton is the troy aikman of the 2000s his team is stacked just like aikmans was.... i would like to see him do what he does with a drew brees team or a favre team... cuz i doubt his career would be the same without the awesome line and wide recievers
@kevizzle2020 look at aikmans receivers when he got his starting job and then look at peytons when he got the starting job. aikmans receivers never got better cuz they already were good. peytons (harrison, then wayne) had great careers because of him. plus, peytons best linemen were undrafted
manning elway favre and marino are the best. only ones with 50k yards and manning was the youngest to do it. he will be the best qb of all time cause hes got a good 5-7 years in the nfl in not more
@alykaproductions Who cares about accumulated stats when comparing them to players who played less time in shorter seasons and with real defensive rules where you had to earn every yard.
dude you forgot alot of great qbs. Remember warren moon, roger staubach, otto graham, johnny unitas, even jim kelly. Oh yeah i love peyton manning but 4th greatest of all time? And BRADY better than peyton? Peyton should be #7 or 8 and Brady should be #9 or 10.
first of all steve young is very overrated the only reason that he completed a lot of his passes was because he threw to the best receiver ever jerry rice. second of all peyton manning should be #1. and last of all TOM BRADY IS NOT BETTER THAN PEYTON MANNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
strictly by the numbers favres number 1.....he's had as many great seasons as hes had poor seasons since '99 tho....people seem to always seem to give marino so much more respect than elway i dont get it
How can all u ppl who make lists forget fran tarkenton? Fran played on shitty teams until the last few years of his career. Also don't judge qbs by super bowl rings, because any coach will say teams win championships not individual players. here is my list: 1. Joe montana 2. Peyton Manning( his defs always sucked not his fault for only 1 super bowl win) 3. John Elway 4. Dan Marino 5. Johnny Unitas 6. Tom Brady 7. Fran Tarkenton 8. Steve Young 9. Brett Favre 10.Warren Moon
yu guys are stupid muthafuckers. Montana had he leadership and skill none of the others had. marino can suck dick, so can elways and favre. favre has no leadership skills. thats what it takes to get FOUR superbowl rings idiots. fuck all you that say montana isnt number 1. he is and you know it. so go back to your fantasy world and get the fuck out.
Brian Griese, Tavarius Jackson and Matthew Stafford? Are you guys insane or just plain idiots? Those three will never be in the same league as Johnny Unitas, Roger Staubach or Warren Moon.
Dan Marino is my #1 just for sentimental value. I hate the pats, so Brady doesn't make the cut for me. I like Big Ben just for the entertainment factor. That guy is a tank with a throwing arm. And as much as I hated Peyton Manning, the guy is pretty freaking good. I just hated Manning because he was breaking Marino's records. But its time to let that go. Favre is one of my favorites too.
Here's my list: 1. Johnny Unitas 2. Joe Montana 3. John Elway 4. Dan Marino 5. Sammy Baugh 6. Roger Staubach 7. Brett Favre 8. Otto Graham 9. Terry Bradshaw 10. Peyton Manning Actually the real #1 quarterback that no one has ever heard of is Benny Friedman. Only quarterback unquestionably the best of his era (I would say Unitas also but some might argue that).
You could find a reason or reasons why any one of these great QBs aren't #1 all-time.
Until a QB goes to the NFL and has Manning/Marino-esque numbers, wins playoff games right away with amazing clutch play, rarely throws INTs, and regularly wins super bowls while playing on a team with the talent level of, say, the Browns- there will never be a unanimous #1.
True dat, although I would say the closest anyone has come was benny friedman who in the 1920s turned pretty much every team he was on into a very good team regardless of the players on it. He also threw 20 tds one year, a number unheard of at that time.
It was unheard of because teams rarely passed in those days. An incomplete pass in the end zone was a turnover and the football was closer to a basketball.
I can't bring myself to really recognize Friedman much at all. The NFL was basically a minor league back then and had just 11-12 teams. The pre-facemask, TV, helmet logo NFL does nothing for me. I can't get into '20s, '30s or '40s NFL. Just way too primitive for me. Any league where a 5' 8", 170 lbs QB can dominate is not for me.
Yes the nfl was very primitive in the days where Friedman played, and it definitely did not favor the passing game. But that just shows how good Friedman had to be to have the kind of success he did. Also he was an innovator at the position and influenced most of the great quarterbacks that came after him. To me that makes him one of the greatest qbs of all time.
right now I put brady just outside top 10, not b/c he's necessarily worse than peyton manning but just because he doesn't have as many years under his belt. In maybe 4 years he'll probably be on there.
@audis4b5 he also has a vag and thinks he is a celebrity instead of trying to be the leader for the pats. peyton manning is the complete quintessential qb and will go down as best of all time
i think that you are all crazy Tom Brady shouldn't evn be up there and netheir should Peyton Manning they just haven't been in the league long enough. not saying that they aren't good QB's it is just too early for them
I always find this reasoning funny. Brady, I can see. He's played just 7 full seasons. But Manning is starting his 12th season and has more starts than Montana, Aikman, Bradshaw, Young, Staubach, and Starr to name just a few HOFers.
If he retired today, he'd be a slam dunk 1st ballot HOFer. At what year are they worthy to you?
you make no sense consistency is what makes a quaterback or great player for that matter not time served Brady doesnt belong because he can not play outside the pocket. Peyton can because he is one of the best ever
I have to laugh because every time I see Elway in one of these countdowns, I think of Jay Cutler and how brash he was to say that he is better than Elway. Not to say that the kid doesn't have talent, I think he does, time will just tell if his talent rises to the likes of any the 10 listed here.
now as a jets fan i pretty much hate all patriots but even i wasnt i would still think tom brady isnt the one of the greatest just because hes won 3 super bowls doesnt mean hes great it means the teams great so i think he need to play 3 more years b4 he on anyones list
yeh agreed Marino racked up huge stats early on while elways sats were more pedestrian early on because they were conservative and liked to run the ball. Just look at Ben Roethelisberger He is one of the top 3 quarterbacks in the league but he plays on a team with a bad offensive line that doesnt like to pass the ball at all. I agree with you it's more about the quarterbacks qualities that they carry with them physical talent intangibles.
I was lying Brady is already in my Top 5 maybe him and Peyton Manning will overtake Favre someday. But at certain point you got to just say that Marino had the best realse and quick delivery and Elway had the best overall athleticism and arm strength and Montana best decision making ability and touch (aside from Wareen Moon) and nobody will ever overtake those 3 guys.
I think you tend to rank QBs based on physical talents- arm strength, mobility, release, touch, etc... which is fine, but I'm ranking them based on accomplishments: wins, titles, awards, stats, great moments, etc...
Marino had much better mechanics than most QBs, but he falls short simply because he didn't win a super bowl. Was it all his fault? Of course not, but QBs are measured by championships. No other position on the field can make that claim. That's not just me saying that either.
yes had marino won a championship i would have probably ranked him number one instead of #2. there wont ever be another Marino or another Elway sure there has been guys that are pretty close to elway in terms of physical talent randal cunningham but none of those guys also had the great intangibles that Elway had.
top tens always make great conversation. problem with nfl lists is that the style of offense has changed so much over the years, hard to say what an old-timer would do today and vice-versa. i say you have to look at a qb for decision-making, arm strength/precision, scrambling ability, leadership and competitiveness (stats just can't be compared era-to-era). so: i like bradshaw, montana, unitas, starr, favre, elway, tarkenton, young (steve, not vince), marino and namath.
Yeh thats what I am saying wait until their freaking careers are over ohh yeh and by the way adrain peterson is the best ever psych (he is pretty much my favorite player but it's way too early to tell remember when people were comparing LT to Jim Brown and saying he's the best ever nobody is saying that anymore) Stats arent everying but I think yards matter a lot in my opinion Touchdowns are semi-overated because they could be handing off to runningbacks in the red zone you never know.
This list is just ignorant Brady and Manning no way are they in the top 5 yet Brady only has 29,000 yards passing and manning has only got one superbowl no way and maybe they will never be in the top 5.
XA! Passing yards is such an overrated stat- you should know that. I can see holding off until their careers are over, but when you look at what they've already accomplished, and what is more than likely going to happen (more super bowls, more big-time numbers & thrills and both 1st-ballot LOCKS for the hall of fame), they've earned the right to be mentioned with the Montanas, Marinos, Elways and Unitassssess. ssesses.
i dont care what anybody says Brady is top 3 of all time even after losing the superbowl, Eli is nowhere even on bradys level

where the hell is johnny unitas? he's 1000 times better than favre
FZJags72 1 year ago
Elways number 2 why?? Bc he won 2 SuperBowls thanks to Terrell Davis carrying him there. Come give Dan Marino T.D. and he wins 2. Flip Elway with Marino and I'd think you'd have a better list..Also get Troy Aikman out of there Roger Staubach was a better Cowboy QB than him look at the stats he had like 15 td's more than picks in his career

Montana is the best ever period.
Best ever period!

Marino never had the team or system behind him like Montana,Elway,Manning,Bradshaw ,Aikman, etc. I've watch the best for 40years and Marino hands down wins it
mrrice69 2 years ago
My problem with Peyton Manning, Tom Brady is the rules have changed now to an offensive league so their stats are well inflated here. Back when Marino, Montana, Elway played the League was geared toward Defense. What Marino did to the 85 Bears is legendary. I watched that game and so did the whole nation and Marino took them apart. KIDS Remember the name DAN MARINO beacuse that's the best quarterback that ever lived
mrrice69 2 years ago

mkwillzer 2 years ago
tom brady doesnt even make my top ten. peyton is best quarterback of all time right now and he is only what, 32? tom brady had one of the best teams in NFL history handed to him. He didnt earn his spot, it was given to him. Peyton had the worse team in the nfl. he now has the best team in the nfl and he built it all by himself. favre is a cry baby, so he should only be 4 or 5, joe montana second, then the rest are tossups with a lot of great players. again, peyton is easily best of all time
mkwillzer 2 years ago
payton is the troy aikman of the 2000s his team is stacked just like aikmans was.... i would like to see him do what he does with a drew brees team or a favre team... cuz i doubt his career would be the same without the awesome line and wide recievers
kevizzle2020 2 years ago
Are you retarted? The colts wide recievers have 2 more Rookies then either the Vikings or The Saints. Hes done outstanding with what he has.
we3ski 2 years ago
@kevizzle2020 look at aikmans receivers when he got his starting job and then look at peytons when he got the starting job. aikmans receivers never got better cuz they already were good. peytons (harrison, then wayne) had great careers because of him. plus, peytons best linemen were undrafted

HisManOfTomorrow 2 years ago
thesoundsofJAGX 2 years ago 2
You could find a reason or reasons why any one of these great QBs aren't #1 all-time.
Until a QB goes to the NFL and has Manning/Marino-esque numbers, wins playoff games right away with amazing clutch play, rarely throws INTs, and regularly wins super bowls while playing on a team with the talent level of, say, the Browns- there will never be a unanimous #1.
777zippy777 2 years ago
True dat, although I would say the closest anyone has come was benny friedman who in the 1920s turned pretty much every team he was on into a very good team regardless of the players on it. He also threw 20 tds one year, a number unheard of at that time.
thesoundsofJAGX 2 years ago
It was unheard of because teams rarely passed in those days. An incomplete pass in the end zone was a turnover and the football was closer to a basketball.
I can't bring myself to really recognize Friedman much at all. The NFL was basically a minor league back then and had just 11-12 teams. The pre-facemask, TV, helmet logo NFL does nothing for me. I can't get into '20s, '30s or '40s NFL. Just way too primitive for me. Any league where a 5' 8", 170 lbs QB can dominate is not for me.
777zippy777 2 years ago
Yes the nfl was very primitive in the days where Friedman played, and it definitely did not favor the passing game. But that just shows how good Friedman had to be to have the kind of success he did. Also he was an innovator at the position and influenced most of the great quarterbacks that came after him. To me that makes him one of the greatest qbs of all time.
thesoundsofJAGX 2 years ago
you gotta have brady on there... i hate the pats but hes got 3 champs
audis4b5 2 years ago
right now I put brady just outside top 10, not b/c he's necessarily worse than peyton manning but just because he doesn't have as many years under his belt. In maybe 4 years he'll probably be on there.
thesoundsofJAGX 2 years ago
@audis4b5 he also has a vag and thinks he is a celebrity instead of trying to be the leader for the pats. peyton manning is the complete quintessential qb and will go down as best of all time

i think that you are all crazy Tom Brady shouldn't evn be up there and netheir should Peyton Manning they just haven't been in the league long enough. not saying that they aren't good QB's it is just too early for them
MasonBates415 2 years ago
I always find this reasoning funny. Brady, I can see. He's played just 7 full seasons. But Manning is starting his 12th season and has more starts than Montana, Aikman, Bradshaw, Young, Staubach, and Starr to name just a few HOFers.
If he retired today, he'd be a slam dunk 1st ballot HOFer. At what year are they worthy to you?
777zippy777 2 years ago
you make no sense consistency is what makes a quaterback or great player for that matter not time served Brady doesnt belong because he can not play outside the pocket. Peyton can because he is one of the best ever
SharpWanker 2 years ago
I have to laugh because every time I see Elway in one of these countdowns, I think of Jay Cutler and how brash he was to say that he is better than Elway. Not to say that the kid doesn't have talent, I think he does, time will just tell if his talent rises to the likes of any the 10 listed here.
MayeCreations 2 years ago
now as a jets fan i pretty much hate all patriots but even i wasnt i would still think tom brady isnt the one of the greatest just because hes won 3 super bowls doesnt mean hes great it means the teams great so i think he need to play 3 more years b4 he on anyones list
themanwith6 2 years ago
yeh agreed Marino racked up huge stats early on while elways sats were more pedestrian early on because they were conservative and liked to run the ball. Just look at Ben Roethelisberger He is one of the top 3 quarterbacks in the league but he plays on a team with a bad offensive line that doesnt like to pass the ball at all. I agree with you it's more about the quarterbacks qualities that they carry with them physical talent intangibles.
XtremeAthleticism 2 years ago
I was lying Brady is already in my Top 5 maybe him and Peyton Manning will overtake Favre someday. But at certain point you got to just say that Marino had the best realse and quick delivery and Elway had the best overall athleticism and arm strength and Montana best decision making ability and touch (aside from Wareen Moon) and nobody will ever overtake those 3 guys.
1.Elway
2.Marino
3.Montana
4.Favre
5.Brady
XtremeAthleticism 2 years ago 3
I think you tend to rank QBs based on physical talents- arm strength, mobility, release, touch, etc... which is fine, but I'm ranking them based on accomplishments: wins, titles, awards, stats, great moments, etc...
Marino had much better mechanics than most QBs, but he falls short simply because he didn't win a super bowl. Was it all his fault? Of course not, but QBs are measured by championships. No other position on the field can make that claim. That's not just me saying that either.
777zippy777 2 years ago 2
yes had marino won a championship i would have probably ranked him number one instead of #2. there wont ever be another Marino or another Elway sure there has been guys that are pretty close to elway in terms of physical talent randal cunningham but none of those guys also had the great intangibles that Elway had.
XtremeAthleticism 2 years ago
top tens always make great conversation. problem with nfl lists is that the style of offense has changed so much over the years, hard to say what an old-timer would do today and vice-versa. i say you have to look at a qb for decision-making, arm strength/precision, scrambling ability, leadership and competitiveness (stats just can't be compared era-to-era). so: i like bradshaw, montana, unitas, starr, favre, elway, tarkenton, young (steve, not vince), marino and namath.
mattwilker 2 years ago
Yeh thats what I am saying wait until their freaking careers are over ohh yeh and by the way adrain peterson is the best ever psych (he is pretty much my favorite player but it's way too early to tell remember when people were comparing LT to Jim Brown and saying he's the best ever nobody is saying that anymore) Stats arent everying but I think yards matter a lot in my opinion Touchdowns are semi-overated because they could be handing off to runningbacks in the red zone you never know.
XtremeAthleticism 2 years ago
This list is just ignorant Brady and Manning no way are they in the top 5 yet Brady only has 29,000 yards passing and manning has only got one superbowl no way and maybe they will never be in the top 5.
XtremeAthleticism 2 years ago
XA! Passing yards is such an overrated stat- you should know that. I can see holding off until their careers are over, but when you look at what they've already accomplished, and what is more than likely going to happen (more super bowls, more big-time numbers & thrills and both 1st-ballot LOCKS for the hall of fame), they've earned the right to be mentioned with the Montanas, Marinos, Elways and Unitassssess. ssesses.
777zippy777 2 years ago 2
yeh but i agree with what you were saying that they are 1st ballot locks and that should be mentioned with the other greats
