This is actually a nice looking flag! No harsh lines, no harsh contrasting colours... I know it'll never be the flag but it's the best I've seen so far.

Right, Im British and the flag is 100% Australian choice. However, I do believe that you should keep the one that you currently have considering I have seen countless WW2 etc veterans marching with that flag and being furious at the point of changing it.

Dont say "think about how many australians have died in British wars"...well WW1 and 2 were world wars and frankly if we lost WW2, Australia would have eventially been invaded so thats completely nonsense. Australians should be proud of it!

@hurro67 Actually the current Australian flag wasn't Australia's official flag in WWII, it wasn't made official until 1954, back during the war the Aussie's were buried under the British Union Jack and the unofficial Australian Flag was the red coloured one.

I'm sorry, I don't want to hurt your feelings but I absolutely hate this, A flag has to look like a flag, there are certain rules about designing them. The recent trends of 'new Australian flags' are absolutely hideous, they look like the fad of post modern1990 flash graphics and are designed absolutely terribly.

this is the best flag design I've ever seen, I live abroad and often get asked if my aussie flag is the NZ flag or where its from, where as your design here is as recognizable globally as the canadian flag

So people want to change it, countries that have changed flags totally haven't been unified long or are a broken up former nation of many and Australia doesn't fit in that.

So will it have any trace of our proud past like the USA flag, United Kingdom or maybe we can continue to build history around our current flag, like Denmark's flag which has remained unchanged for almost 600 years, now that is something to be proud of.

I think your 110 years to late there is to much history behind it now to change it this dramatically, our current national flag arguement doesn't hold up either "we should remove the Union flag because it belongs to another country".

Well the Southern Cross is represented by 4 other nations flags as well Brazil being the first to do so you going to change that to.

Last of all Canada's current used flag got there inspiration from the Royal Military College of Canada Est. 1876

Lose the union flag, like you have done, but put one more point on the aborigonal star to represent the commonwealth. You cover everything then, the global positioning(southern cross), colours and kangaroo(national colours and emblem-your sports teams wear them) and a subtle remnant of aus' history and establishment sharing the same image of the original australoids.

Great job! Love the colours. The design is good, it screams Australia! When people see it they will think Australia and be recognized like the current one. Australia is old enough now for it's inhabitants to be Australians rather than British and Irish colonists.

I am from India and I love our dear "Tiranga" Tri-Color...(Saffron/White/Gre­en and the Buddhist Ashoka Chakra). I have lived in Australia and like the country, people a lot.

There are lots of similarities in the average middle class men/women of both countries.

I like your design of an Australian Flag. Its elegant and the colors are superb.

And as you rightly put it, it gives respect to the original native australoid people, the southern cross stars and ofcourse the "Kangaroo".Well Done!!

@BipedalHumanoid Well this is very misleading statement of Australian history and history in general. WW1 and WW2 were hardly British wars and involved many European nations. At the time of WW1 if not WW2 Australia was inextricably connected both economically and socially to Britain and its Empire in terms of trade. What about Vietnam War? Britain was not involved in this war, at least to the extent of Australia.

And the Boar war well we were then colonies of Britain.

I think you need to get rid of the sun in the corner. It is interesting but looks odd. Instead replace it with a large star like on the bottom left hand corner of the current flag. Other than that it is a very nice design.

my only gripe is that the Kangaroo looks a little like the Qantas roo but I think you've got the template right, change the roo up a bit and we may have a flag worthy of being called the Australian flag

Anybody whose seen the movie 'Event Horizon' will instantly remember the futuristic Australian flag on Weir's uniform, where the union jack was replaced by the aboriginal flag, a sign that there was indepence from the UK.
