  • 'Jesus and his lawyer are comin back'.

My hovercraft is full of Eels because I love them! :)

  • @picklesnorf101

nope, It's Jesus ans his lawyer.. Read "Things the grandchildren should know" By Mark Oliver Everett, Eels singer..

You're right with the Good Song part!

  • Happy Happy Happy Song !

  • just discovered that song and i am obsess with it

    lol

  • Oh look, back when MTV still showed music videos!

  • when mtv showed good music you meen....

  • Comment removed

  • You've got to be kidding . . . no way anyone wrote a song about that prostitute. You must mean his 2nd wife. The cute one. The 1st wife is not dead. She was just faking it to get out of a drug charge. Seriously?

  • Beatiful Freak was writen for his girlfriend at the time, named susan, who dumped him after he wrote that song for her.

  • Susan was a cunt.

  • Great Band and ahead of their time!!!...this song rocks and slips into another zone!!!!....Life is good and i feel great!!!...cuz mother said i was a great mistake!...lol!...classic!...this song is about numbing the pain!...lol

  • Fantastic song

  • Why does this remind me of PM Dawn's die without you?

  • likin this gotta have a bit' a' Novocaine

  • this song is so good. 'Eels' is a good band, very creative with their music.

  • When this song came out the internet was still on its infancy years, it was something new and I ca not describe the feeling of connecting with other people or visiting some one else websites back in those years,, when I listen to this song it brings back those early internet memories.

  • I remember those days. When AOL reigned supreme, 56K was as fast as a cheetah and IM Bombs were all the rage.

  • Yep, looking back now, the nineties weren't really that bad...

At the time they weren't the eighties, and I suppose that was the problem, if you get my drift.

  • things are always better when they're gone

  • wow.... it's great !

  • what is the meaning of sputter out

  • "sputter out" = losing the will to survive

  • Great band!!!!!!

  • i wish these guys were better known, theyre fucking amazing

  • Hey. You, I and many others enjoy the music they make. What's so important about being 'known'? Those who look for good music will stumble upon them (and others). X

  • HERR LEHMAN!

  • I like this song. I think it is really good.

  • what is the year?

  • 1996

  • lol @ whining on the noob tube

  • Хорошая песня,хорошее видео,парни молодцы!Cool song,good video,respect for eels

  • Eels. Kenny Rogers....Think about it.

  • they play this video at my work :p

  • Haunting and brilliant. Love the dead silence mid song - fine proof that music isn't just about sound.

  • Is this a joke comment? Music isn't just about sound?.. could you please elaborate on that.. Because i'm afraid silence isn't classified as music..

  • Guess you haven't listened to 3:44 by John Cage then...

  • Your statement is filled with flaws.. John Cage conducted a piece called FOUR minutes THIRTY THREE seconds actually, and the idea was that u listen to natural noises around you.. thus there is still noise.. utter silence is NOT a form of music..

  • Shut up and stop trying to be clever. You just appear as a pedantic internet wanker.

  • i was rather proud of my argument actually.. and didn't think you would ever have a viable rebuttle.. i was right :)

  • :)

    _

  • to stingy1sam......."viable rebuttle".....who talks like that?......I guarantee you've NEVER said that in a real conversation....internet dork

  • The Toa of music.

Music is as much defined by the silences inbetween the sounds as the sounds themselves.

  • i dont think anyones thinking this through.. music isn't the SILENCE.. Yes the silences inbetween notes creates beat, but its the beat and tempo that attract the ear, not the silence itself.. silence is in no way possible to be defined as music.. simply because the definition of music is a collaboration of sounds that create a pleasing sound to the ear

  • I don't care what the song is about, I just care about what it means to me as well. I reminds me of all those days in the 90's going to high school, washing dishes at the catering company and partying with friends.

  • The 90's rocked!

  • I remember this song always in the back of my mind and the video too. It's weird, but it had such impact on me when it came out in 1997. I think it stays in the back of my mind because I associate it with that year when my sister was born. I just kind of related to it. When I heard it it was unlike anything else I was hearing. It was "fresh" and new. Kind of like the band "Travis" and their song "Why does it always rain on me." Some songs just linger in the back of your mind and in your soul.

  • type in 'PANACEA EELS COVER' best 1 ive heard. (eel's no1 fan)

  • before i sputter out

  • most underrated band of all time

  • sure it was a girl?

  • yes i heard this too

  • Son of brilliance, brilliant in his own right, Mr. E gives us a relatable expression of emotional pain involved in attempting responsible adulthood... In my mind, they succeed wonderfully with their directness and wonderful mode of expression. Mr. E is one of us! Maybe more than most of us are.... Please listen to Justin Currie too.

  • i would reccomend his book

    bloody amazing..and very sad

    puts everything into perspective..

    always loved this song

  • The first time i heard this song...I was washing my car and I just stopped dead in my tracks and was like WTF...then I just thought..Fucking amazing tune!!

  • Haha I stopped dead in my tracks too when I first heard this!

  • i know isnt this fucking amazing?

  • Nice chillful song for me.

  • Before I splutter out.......

  • Eels up inside yar.

  • !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ♥

  • Amazing song!!!Go Eels!! This is one of their best songs.period.

  • reminds me of trigger happy

  • Same here! What sketch was it used on? Love that show.

  • it was on dom jolly's Trigger happy tv

  • Our generation does recognise good music when they hear it - one example being that I heard this on the radio the other day and really liked it.

It's just that good music comes in different forms - for example, Lollipop by Lil Wayne has a fantastic underlying melody...

We can't afford to be music snobs, because then we will miss out on some brilliant sounds

Most artists have produced at least one song which is brilliant, their opus..

    (even the JoBros)

  • i agree about not being a snob. you said what i was thinking but not with the exact words.

  • Comment removed

  • i wouldn't call this indie

  • Indie just means it's on an independant record label. Kylie Minogue was indie at one point.

  • wrong, there is such a thing as an indiependant sound & it's a genre in it's own right i.e indie-pop, indie-rock & experimental etc... which means a artist/group can be tied to a major label but still have a indie sound... examples include: snow patrol, coldplay, mull historical society & sigur ros etc....

  • No, I'm not wrong. Indie was used to describe artists on indipendant labels. It may not be what it means NOW but that's where the word came from. I'm NOT wrong.

  • that term was used in the early 80's when 'Indie' bands were being introduced!

Britpop hijacked the whole thing in the mid 90's

  • Ergo, I'm not 'wrong'.

  • Not wrong. Coming from the music found on the independet labes, the genre was later often named "indie".

But I think there's a permanent need for inventing new names for music styles, so don't pay this whole thing too much attention...

  • All output is controlled by very few BIG companys with very big interests that all us people, specially the younger generations are brainwashed and soak up whatever is thrown at them. They don't want people thinking for them selves, they dont want you to be critical."Choose blue or red, don't think.... just choose from what I'm offering".

I'm very sorry to say that this is the present and future.....Welcome to 1984

  • ....you're exaggerating a bit there, don't you think?

  • i think hes right on the spot

  • yeah...and? thats capitalism

  • We are Borg. Resistance is futile.

  • Its sad! My highschool is covered with dumb colored pants fads, kids following one another instead of having their own oppinion on what they like. NO ONE has their own diversity, most my school has been carbon copied by what they see on the tv.

  • but I am sure are so different.

  • what?

  • I said I am sure you or totally different. I am being

    facetious..

  • All your talking about is very easy to understand. In the last decade we have been absorbed into a mediacrocy. Everything you hear and see on mainstreem is filtered and controlled.

  • wow it's been a long time since I've heard this though. Great Song!

  • Sometimes I wonder about my generation when they don't recognize good music when they hear it. I told my friends about the Eels and all I got were weird looks the next day.

Ah, this decade won't be remembered by much. soon they'll have computers spitting out three-chord songs that have been scientifically proven to make 13-year-old girls go crazy.

or is that the Jonas Brothers?

  • Peaches, you're spot on. It's already happening.

  • esta rola se la bajaron a nacio autista...esta bastante chidaa

  • best eels album shootanery

  • Why does no one know this band?

  • because the kids don't listen to music anymore, they listen to shit.

  • I'm a teenager, and I like them! And some good old 60's-70's classic rock stuff (My name tells...)

  • welcome to the minority my friend! 92 is when u were born im assuming?

please try and help educate the rest of your generation! otherwise i don't think i can stop weeping for the future! most of what i see is skinny jeans and eye liner!

least there is a glimmer of hope though, right?! for fuck sake though, keep listening to good music kid, screw the stream!

  • Yep, I'm 16, but most of my classmates listen to pop crap or something they call "rock", although it is the total opposite. I'm kinda outsider for listening to Classic Rock and stuff like eels....even the girl who claims to be such an indie and knows every band no one else knows does not know eels!

  • fuckin a (or B cuz it has more holes), either letter though, ur right, they listen to complete and utter garbage! i mean, im only 25, but damn i felt old when my buddy brought around this 21yr old who had no idea who pearl jam was... i mean shit, if it isn't lil wayne, then who gives a fuck right?!

fuck most of the youth man... they grew up in a culturally devoid time.... i pity them

  • This seems rather a simplistic view...the fact is that in our day, as in any other, most of the music out there was shit, and its simply unfair to single a generation out.

  • Fuck , i hate when people say that others taste for music sucks, its relative, if they like that music, its allright!

  • I stand by my comment. The other day I heard something very disturbing on the radio: "do the helen keller and talk with your hips." wtf? I mean, really, wtf? idiocracy anyone?

the 80s and 90s had fucking amazing music, and while there are lots of great indie bands out there, it's definitely not mainstream. you really have to look. the radio is dominated by shit. kids like listening to dumbasses with iqs of 70 singing disrespectfully about helen keller. jesus christ.

  • Comment removed

  • i know--"do the helen keller...and talk with your hips?"

what the hell does that even mean? it'd be embarrassing to humanity if it made sense. but it doesn't, and that's even more embarrassing, eh?

    idiocracy indeed.

  • Terribly embarrassing. The story of Helen Keller is a remarkable tale of trumph in the face of almost incomprehensible adversity. The dipshits who came up with this line are assholes and douchebags.

  • I really like the vid. Their elegantly slow, and relaxed movements really show how I feel when listening to the tune...ah,wonderful... :P

  • very underrated band. never on the radio. the only place you really hear 'em is in shrek movies.

  • Depends what radio stations you listen to.

Commercial shit stations don't play this, thank god.

  • love this number

  • thanks for your effort in putting this track on. awsome. ta

  • The singers dad was a fucking Quantim Mech. Genius!!! Really... I'm wacthing the show on TV right now... NOVA on PBS!!! No Shit!! Alternate Realitys and 'timelines' was this guys dads' thing. So cool to have a sharp mind behind the music for a change...

  • watched it to, pretty great :D

    parallel universe!

intriguing how a guy with such father knew so little about his work

    + tragic to

  • Yeah, i saw the documentary and was like... Eels.... was that the band that had this song? Vaguely remembered. Pretty cool.

  • Fuckin' awesome! One of the greatest bands of the 90's

  • what about the 2000's O.o

  • That look you give that guy is their new single, which is a very cool one too. Hope it will appear on youtube soon.

  • awesome song, underrated band

  • agreed

  • I miss the 90's

  • awesome......

  • it does sound a little like beck, I bet he wish he wrote it. I love the song

  • Anyone else think they sound an awful LOT like Beck?

  • yep. love of the loveless especially

  • or Beck sounds"an awful lot" like Eels ;)

  • 1996 is when it was released

  • what year did this come out?

  • oh those drums sound so good, and so does the line before i sputter out. i'm just getting into these players and they are interesting

  • anyone remember eels playing this on top of the pops? they played on tiny miniature instruments and then totally smashed the shit outa it all at the end....so funny!

  • Yeah my sister's got it on Video somewhere!

  • Beautiful.

    Know how he feels.

  • going to susans house is better

  • before i sputter out

  • Great song havent heard it in years i remember when it came out in england. Eels are 1 of americas great underrated bands.

  • F@#k I hate sensorship!

  • great!!

  • Wonderful......

  • Reminds me of Beck meets David Bowie. I like it.

  • Un groupe vraiment original qui sait allier qualité et humour !

  • Bowie-esque creative brilliance happening here.

  • On est la pour commenter , j'aime pas U_U

  • This is a great song. I like the video too. Heard this on the radio a few years ago and then forgot about it. "Jesus and his lawyer are coming back." Ha! In 100 million years the earth will be a big ball of ice floating through space long after this moss sputters out.

  • mark everett is just as much a genius as his dad!!! nuff sed

  • i adore this song<3.

  • i remember listening to this disc when i was in a major depression...its still hard to hear especially beautiful freak. still its a classic.

  • son muy buenos!!!

  • Oh great another self-proclaimed critic who thinks he's the supreme authority on innovation. What do you know about being inspired you basement-dwelling fatass, Mark Everett has experienced more shit than you could take in 3 lifetimes. It's pretty ignorant to base your opinion on a band only on their most mainstream accessible single anyway, even though this song features exquisite introspective lyrics with a memorable and haunting riff for a pop hit.

  • So shut up and do something better. We'll applaud you when you do.

  • This was a really cool video back when it came out.

  • Liked the TV show last night. Had no idea this guy sung this song.

  • ughh, im showin my age. i loved this song when it came out...still do...

  • I love this song.

  • This was my loosing virginity song! It's so nice! Really nice memories! Thanks for putting this on!

  • Ohhhhhhh yeeeeeeaaaaahhhhh .....giggaty/other immature comments.

  • What?

  • You said you lost your virginity to this song. I attempted to do an impression of quagmire from family guy/failed. Nice song though brings back some good memories.

  • yeah sats right....very nice song but waht is "sputter-out" in german??? tranlate AHHH

  • It's something like mit etwas herausplatzen

or sich verplappern und ungewollt etwas preisgeben

    silvi, Bayerin ;)

  • Danke dir!

    *yippie*

  • I don't know how to say it in German, but I can describe it in English. It is like the flickering of a candle as its flame goes out, and the lurching hesitation of a car engine running on fumes before stalling. Does that help?

  • thank you, this has helped me.

I would not have thought that someone responds.

It is a long time ago ^ ^

  • it is in trigger happy tv

  • what a fuckin song! Been a fan for years! x

  • i found this totally by accident!

    i love it =D

  • LOL, me too actually!

  • Totally forgot about these guys. You couldn't get away from this song on college radio for awhile.

  • reminds me of the late 90s

  • I have the cassette tape of this album. Lots of fun for the trendsetters who show up=)

  • Why have i never heard of Eels? This is great!

  • hahaha love this song and band

''life is hard and so am i!''

    ROFLMFAO

  • the bassist from this album went on the form abandoned pools wich did the clone high theme song
