You refer to the Church Fathers' writings as mere "opinions of men". Well, some men's opinions are valuable. You're a pastor, you're a man, but your opinions matter to your flock. You guide them in interpreting Scripture. Just so, with the early Fathers' writings. They are valuable insight in my interpretation of Scripture due to their temporal and geographical proximity to Christ on earth.
@AmericanBerean I do not allow my opinion, as many "liberal" pastors do in leading the flock. As a matter of fact, many"flock" have gone away due to telling them the truth od their sin and need of repentence. Either one will hear the truth and repent, or hear the truth and reject the Word of God, the ONLY standard anoyone can trust. Traditions, customs, programs, man-made doctrine should never be part of leading a flock. I am held accountable to God for revealing only His word, keeps error out.
@AmericanBerean By a relationship with Christ! The Holy Spirit will lead those who are of Christ into all righteousness. Prior, as a Catholic, the Bible was just a book, and I did NOT have the Spirit, for i was not born-again, and only trusted in the RCC. However when the Holy Spirit "will teach us all things" showed me clearly how the RCC contradicts the Word of God and the RCC adds and takes away from the Bible. Thus I only trusted in Christ alone for salvation and was born-again! Left RCC.
@rtarasiak OK, you're guided by something outside of Scripture to show you the meaning of Scripture. So, if you believe the Bible alone is the revealed Word of God, you have violated the Bible-Alone principal. In that regard you are no different from Catholics. You trust the Spirit infallibly guides interpretation. I trust the Spirit infallibly guides interpretation. The difference is I believe I myself am not infallible in that, but the society He founded, is.
@AmericanBerean NO, you are stretching this, the Holy Spirit will never give a spirit of error or add nor take away from the Word of God, and always glorifies Christ and God. Unfortunately the RCC has added and taken away so much to the Word! This is the spirit of error John spoke of: We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
1 John 4:6 Jesus alone is "truth" and the "way" - John 14:6
@AmericanBerean I do not add to the Word nor take away, the RCC elevates tradition equal with the Word. And the magisterium will even place tradition above the Word of God! Example elevating Mary as co-mediatrix with Christ, and of course there is nothing in scripture to back this up without adding to scripture! So in the Word when it talks about traditions it is always past tense, Ex: "traditions you HEARD.." And of course in Rev. adding or taking away is not a good thing to do!
@AmericanBerean You are fallible just as i am. Even the pope is fallible. "ALL have sinnned and fall short of the glory of God." Rom. 3:23. All i all. Of course the Word declares Christ knew no sin, the exception. So Mary, (who even offerred a sacrifice at the temple for her sin), the popes, priests, you and I, are ALL sinners. Again a tradition of the RCC usurping the Word giving Mary a status that is unbiblical, and adding to the context of the Word of God. Dig and seek the truth my friend!
@rtarasiak It seems you think "infallible" means "sinless". No, infallible means divinely prevented from erring in teaching faith/morals.
True, the Spirit will never give conflicting interpretations of Scripture to different people. But if two guys, each claiming guidance of the Spirit, have opposing interpretations, how do you know who is right? You can't, without claiming "true guidance" for yourself (just as has Joseph Smith and Martin Luther) or accepting extra-Biblical guidance.
@AmericanBerean The key word you wrote "claiming guidance of the Spirit". This is the problem or root. Where there is any claim to interpret a scripture or disagreement, there must be 1. search the original languages (Hebrew or the Greek) for the proper definition of words or sentences. 2. There must be interpreted in context of the writers subject. 3. One must understand the writers intent, the culture, history, atmosphere, and to whom the intended letter was written for?
@AmericanBerean So with proper hermeneutics, Exegisis, and textual criticism one will discover the meaning of the text. Too many interpret scripture incorrectly taking a word or verse out of the context of the entire passage or the intent of the writer. This is the root of the problem. Example of John 6:53, one does not literally eat Christ;s body per RCC! If you read in context v27-29 its about believing in Christ comparing to the bread that Moses received. they would of known: Lev. 3:17
@rtarasiak Remember the context of John6: Passover.
Jesus fulfilled/perfected the Old Passover. Participants were required to eat the sacrificial lamb. Jesus is the Lamb of God. There was no baby sheep at the Last Supper. He said "This is my body." God's word causes what it says. Therefore the bread and wine became His body and blood and He commanded/empowered His apostles to celebrate this same change of substance when He said "Do this in remembrance of me".
@AmericanBerean 'This shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations in all your dwellings: you shall eat neither fat nor blood.' " Lev 3:17. Whoever eats any blood, that person shall be cut off from his people.' " Lev 7:27. The Jewish Disciples in the upper room would have know this scripture, and knew Jesus was talking metaphorically. Again in context of John 6, He was talking about Himself being the "Manna from Heaven" and it was about belief and faith, NOT cannibalism.
@rtarasiak As to "cannibalism" aspect: In John6, many disciples took Jesus literally and left. If Jesus was speaking metaphorically, they misunderstood, and Jesus would have corrected their error. But they understood what He was saying and couldn't accept it. Those who accepted Jesus' word stayed.
Those in the upper room understood it was a Passover feast and that Jesus is the Lamb of which they would partake, miraculously.
He said "My flesh is meat indeed...". Not in symbol, but in reality.
@AmericanBerean Thus if you interpret Jesus in John 6 literally then Do you belive Him ehen He said, "I am the door..."? or "If your eye causes you to sin, pluck your eye out..."? So, your and the RCC literal interpretation is in correct. Also: "so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many." Heb 9:28. There is NO need of a sacrificial Mass anymore, Jesus was sacrificed ONCE and for all sin. Thus a saved person receives the gift of salvation by His work NOT ours. One cannot trump God!
@rtarasiak Jesus' metaphorical and parabolic speeches are distinguishable from His more literal speakings. Context reveals the literary senses employed.
Jesus' once-for-all sacrifice is manifested in the Mass, not re-executed. You continue to misrepresent what RCC teaches and practices. Look in Revelation... you'll find the Lamb in Heaven continuing to offer His sacrifice to the Father, even though it already happened once (and only once) in the earth's timeline.
@AmericanBerean . Faith is not a separate entity within existence of its own. In the context, the main object of faith is the person of Jesus Christ himself assisting in a few ways. First and verse 46, speaks of being the "one who is from God." In verse 48, he speaks of being the bread of life. Both of these statements are assertions about who Jesus is and our fitting objects of faith. .
@AmericanBerean The one who "eats" of this bread will never die. The "eating" here is paralleled with the "believing" a verse 47 -- any attempt to make this a physical action misses the entire point the Lord is making.
@rtarasiak As to the proscription of blood in Leviticus, I guess that can be considered abrogated with the New Covenant, just as the other dietary restrictions were, and circumcision was and the day of worship moved to Sunday. (Though I will say that drinking real blood of a sacrifice to a false God is not acceptable, because it's idolatry).
@AmericanBerean "By the consecration of the bread and wine there takes place a change of the whole substance of the bread into the substance of the body of Christ our Lord and of the whole substance of the wine into the substance of his blood. This change the holy Catholic Church has fittingly and properly called transubstantiation" (Catechism, 1376) you still have NOT answered this CCC quote? NO man can change a wafer and wine or juice into the actual body and blood of Christ! ALL are sinners!
@rtarasiak CCC quote... didn't know it was a question. OK, you seem to think it's a man's power supposedly changing bread and wine. It's a sacrament, meaning there's a visible part (bread, wine & the person and words) and an invisible aspect which is God's grace which does all the work. This effect doesn't require the man to be sinless. God uses sinful men for His purposes.
Your statement "NO man can..." would include the Apostles healing people, which makes it absurd. IT'S GOD'S POWER!!!
@AmericanBerean "It's a sacrament, meaning there's a visible part (bread, wine & the person and words) and an invisible aspect which is God's grace which does all the work." All opinion, no scriptural backing in your statement. An example of changing scripture to suit the man-made doctrine or tradition of the RCC. Scripture HAS TO BE the STANDARD and thus it reveals God to us and transforms us, we do not change the scripture as the RCC does to support tradition. improper hermeneutics
@rtarasiak Scripture: Jesus or Peter or Paul would speak and/or do something (ie apply mud with spit or lay on hands) and God's grace and power would then heal or fill the person. That is what a Sacrament is and does. Faith is necessary of course, but by the action of a man God's power is manifested and grace is applied/distributed.
Sacred Traditional doctrine helped determine the canon of the Bible. Ergo, Traditional doctrine tells us how best to interpret Scripture.
@AmericanBerean I received almost all the "sacraments" yet, I was never "filled"? Thus a man-made doctrine.Per the CCC, the sacraments are necessary for salvation-1129. So a sacrament is a merit. Grace is received as a gift, not anything a human can do. yes, by faith i lay hands and God heals. The Bible was determined by God and what was already "passed" down from Christ to the Apostles which inspired the writers of the Bible. "tradition" in the word is always used in a past tense in Greek.
@rtarasiak Merit does not equal earn. Merit=reward. To earn something means you have a right to it when you do something, and it is proportionate to what you did (ie a wage). A reward, however, is usually vastly disproportionate to the action being rewarded and cannot be earned. Heavenly rewards are merited. Rom. 2:6–11.
@AmericanBerean example: 2 Thess. 2:15, 1 Thess. 2:13, 1 Cor. 11:2, 2 Tim. 2:2. Thus per the Bible we can eliminate your last statement: "Sacred Traditional doctrine helped determine the canon of the Bible. Ergo, Traditional doctrine tells us how best to interpret Scripture." The Holy Spirit thru Godly man who understood that one cannot add nor take away from the Word. Especially like the 2nd Commandment; RCC changes the text to justify its statues, and idolatry. Besides 7 books addedby RCC
@rtarasiak Those Bible references support my case. Paul's oral teaching carried equal weight as what he wrote. That's what Sacred Tradition is. A few centuries later the Holy Spirit compiled the NT at the hands of the Church leadership.
Those 7 books were always a part of the Bible. Luther yanked them and you implicitly accept his lone fallible judgement over the councils of the legitimate Church leaders of long before.
@AmericanBerean Could care less about Luther. The fundamentals of basic Christianity are the most important. Ten Commandments and enumeration; Perfect example of how the RCC picks and chooses the scripture! "we have to justify our statues! and bowing down to them!" It makes us money! Build bigger buildings with more indulgences! Sure" Right! Keep praying to the "co-mediatrix" keep praying to dead saints, who maybe in heaven?, keep worshiping a wafer in the monstrance, etc.. please! Jesus alone!
@rtarasiak The 10 commandments are presented in the Bible without numbering. The two popular schemes go back to Origen and Augustine. The "Protestant" listing is Origen's, the Catholic listing is Augustine's. The lists are not meant to be exhaustive descriptions of the decalogue, they are summations only. The commandments you claim are "left out" by RCC are described in the catechism.
@AmericanBerean okay, yet STILL ALL who call themselves followers of the ONE true God thus will receive the Bible as the only TRUTH, NOT traditions of man, will CLEARLY see that a true follower of Christ will know beyond a doubt to NOT have any statues, carved images, and even bow down to worship or venerate them! God is a jealous God! So, just with this alone, the RCC is wrong, CCC or not? PLEASE accept the free gift of eternal life today! Jesus loves you and YOU can be saved today! NO religion!
@rtarasiak The trinity... no one can really understand it we ultimately have to accept it on faith.
Augustine was walking on the beach trying to grasp the Trinity and came across a boy playing. The boy had dug a whole in the sand and was running back and forth to the water, carrying back a little water and dumping it in the hole. Augustine told the boy it's impossible to pour the ocean in the hole. The boy said: just so, you cannot really understand the Trinity.
@AmericanBerean Oh and they have to pay for all the pedophile law suits, more indulgences! OH, just close some more RCC schools and church buildings, sure! Don't forget to confess your sins to a priest! LOL! Oh and pray the Rosary, worship Mary more than Christ, for she is the "Queen of heaven!" and the "Mother of God!" WOW! Where is that in the Bible? God is eternal, no beginnig, no end, alpha and omega, do lets see; Mary was before God! okay!!!!! LOL! You see Berearn, the stupidity and lies.
@rtarasiak Mary is Queen of Heaven, not because she's some sort of pagan demi-goddess, but by virtue of being the mother of the King of Heaven.
David's Kingdom was the Kingdom of Heaven, manifested on earth. Jesus is King because He is a descendant of David. In the Davidic dynasty the queen was the King's mother, not his wife (he typically had many of those, counter to God's desire).
@AmericanBerean NOT Scriptural! Anytime the Bible, NOT your opinion of the RCC, it uses the name of a false god: The children gather wood, the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven; and they pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke Me to anger.
Jer 7:18. Again YOU stretch the truth and align scripture to YOUR presupposed mind set instead allowing the Scripture to transform and renew your mind. RCC Dogma brain washed you.
@rtarasiak Besides "queen of heaven", other phrases used by pagans are god, son of God, savior, lord, logos. The difference is the pagans' were counterfeit, the Christian versions are the REAL ones.
You fail to consider the full context in your exegesis. Your acceptance of the human tradition that is Sola Scriptura leads you to a false confidence in your own comprehension.
You should do a video on why God's complete revelation is found in the Bible alone.
@AmericanBerean Mary of the Bible NEVER called herself a Queen nor wanted any glory for herself. SHE only called herself "blessed" RCC added the HOLY mary, Mother of God! She even as a sinner, offered a sacrifice at the temple for her sin, thus confirming scripture that "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." Again, the "assumpition" truly an assumption and evlevating her to co-mediatrix is NOT Biblical and diminshes God and His Son, who is the ONLY WAY TO the Father! John 14:6
@rtarasiak "All have sinned..." this statement is not all-inclusive of humanity. For one, Jesus, for another, any human before the age of reason. Therefore, the idea that Mary, the Ark of the New Covenant, was sinless is not necessarily in violation of Paul's statement.
She is indeed a humble person. But she was a realist and did "boast" in saying "my soul magnifies the Lord". Can you say that of yourself?
Jesus is the only way to the Father God.Mary points to Him and tells us "Do what he says"
@AmericanBerean Sadly per the RCC, YOU do not have the peace of wghat Apostle PAul wrote about (Rom. 5:1) in KNOWING salvation is of GOD alone, and that the ONE Sacrifice of Christ is sufficient for all mankind to pay for the sins of past, pesent and future! Quite clear to the predestined Spirit Filled Christian. Obviously not clear to a Cathoilc, due to indoctrination of "Being good, indulgences, rosaries, etc... to merit salvation! I will show you my works BY my faith! Faith comes first! gift
@AmericanBerean God bless you and obviously you are lost in a spirit of religion and will never see the truth of the Word alone and trusting only in Christ's work, so with that I bid you good bye. There are many more who are predestined as you are not obviously and you are so caught up in the religion of man that it has clouded up your entire being. God bless you and I will pray that God open your eyes to His truth alone, the standard, and leave tradtion behind...Amen! love in Christ, Pastor Bob
@rtarasiak You cannot separate the divinity and humanity of Jesus. He IS God. Fully man, yet fully divine. God is three persons, yet each is equally God. Since Mary conceived and birthed Jesus, she is the Mother of God (the Son), though not God (the Father) or God (the Spirit). Just God the 2nd Person of the Trinity.
@AmericanBerean THe fundamentals of faith, like grace, cross, justification, blood, free gift of salvation, not earned! These are the important issues! and tradition of man is of man! Jesus rebuked the "Catholics" of His day, the Pharisees who elevated traditions above or equal to God's Word. There must be a standard, that is what was given already, passed tense to us by those whom were with Christ. This is dependable! Additions following is not, the story gets changed being passed down!
@AmericanBerean the RCC has already elevated Mary as co-mediatrix along with Christ AND was given a name "Queen of Heaven" as well as "assumption of Mary" Yes, all an assumption! ALL made up and not even anywhere close to the Mary of the Bible who told the disciples "do as He says"! So again, until you are regenerated by the Holy Spirit and get out of the indoctrinated mind set of the RCC, you will never see the "light" God bless you and when you get born-again and get saved, get back with me.
@rtarasiak You are a co-creator of human life when you and your spouse conceive a child, even though you are just a creature. You performed the natural part God designed you for and God infused the soul. In the same sense Mary is a co-mediatrix. Not that she is divine, or more than a creature, but that she was a willing accomplice to God's salvation plan and brought (by God's grace and power) the One True Mediator into the world.
@AmericanBerean Per the CCC quote, if this is "God's grace and power" that is changing the bread, wine, then place some poison in the cup and have the priest pray, then drink it? If it is really the "blood of Christ" then His grace will not allow you to be sick nor die? Again, clearly the CCC is not saying the same thing as you are? This is the root of the problem with the RCC. Bible and then tradition? Which was is right? OH! the Magisterium will decide! The Word is thus kind of downgraded.
@AmericanBerean Also, NO where did Jesus, God, Holy Spirit, tell anyone in the Bible to have a man change a wafer or bread to literally be the body of Christ, same with the Blood. It is never mentioned in the entire book of Acts! Only the broke bread in REMEMBRANCE! Just as 1 Cor. 11 declares it is about remembrance, and His sacrifice on the cross, Why did Apostle Paul never tell the Corinth Church to literally eat His body and drink His blood? Because they all new it was symbolic just as I do!
@rtarasiak Jesus did tell the Apostles to trans-substantiate the bread and wine, at the Last Supper when He said "Do this in remembrance of me." In it's proper context (Jewish cultural, besides linguistic), "remembrance" means more that just calling to mind. It is a participation in a one-time event in the past.
Paul speaks of the Eucharist in a real way. If it's just a symbol, how could we be guilty of profaning His body?If it's just a symbol, how could we eat judgement on ourselves?
@AmericanBerean Then there arose a dispute between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purification. 26 And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified--behold, He is baptizing, and all are coming to Him!" 27 John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. John 3:25-27 (NKJV) You will not understand until you are "born from above" or in other words "Born-again"
@AmericanBerean Again, you miss the entire point of the scripture in context of what Jesus would become, the passover lamb. IT is about what He was about to do on the cross. A spiritual intention of Christ, and yes many did not understand due to being "stiff necked" or lack of belief, faith. It is a spiritual remembrance, NOT a physical and actual body and blood of Christ, One sacrifice here, nothing to do in heaven. This is all to do with accepting His free gift of salvation and payment of sin!
@AmericanBerean You will not understand spiritual enlightenment until you are born-again. RCC does NOT teach this, for if it did, i would of been presented this while a Catholic for 39 years. No it is NOT a baby baptism that washes away sin! This is not being born-again! IT is an accountability issue of when a child or adult becomes old enough to understand to either accept salvation (those who are predestined) or reject? As for me, As the Holy Spirit drew me to Him, biblical, i am saved!
@AmericanBerean "By the consecration of the bread and wine there takes place a change of the whole substance of the bread into the substance of the body of Christ our Lord and of the whole substance of the wine into the substance of his blood. This change the holy Catholic Church has fittingly and properly called transubstantiation" (Catechism, 1376).
@rtarasiak Our disagreement on interpretations is the result of each of our guiding traditions: Your tradition of interpretation is the Protestant one, and mine is the Catholic one. The interpretations the RCC takes can be traced back to the first centuries. The Protestant interpretations are only 500 years old. "Opinions of men" you say... But your interpretations are likewise. You use the Bible alone, but your Bible is deficient in 7 books. Your tradition tells you to accept 66 books.
@AmericanBerean I AM NOT a Protestant. Luther brought many of the false teachings/traditions of the RCC along with him! No, I am just a sinner saved by Grace! And stand alone on the Word of God. No need of traditions of man. Jesus rebuked the "RCC" of His day, the Pharisees and their "Doctrines of man" I now rebuke the RCC for their doctrines of man elevating them as equal with God's Word! Shame on the RCC!!! Repent RCC and turn to Christ alone for His work for us on the cross; freedom!
@AmericanBerean The original Canon of biblical books were 66 because the additional 7 books had questionable and inaccurate information. Thus the Holy Spirit led Christian men to proclaim the infallible Bible which we have today, verified by God. Either way, the bottom line is this; One is saved by grace alone, by faith alone, and there is only ONE mediator, Christ. This alone disproves so many doctrines of the RCC. No need to debate further. Until you are born-again you will never understand.
@rtarasiak The infallible Christian Bible was universally composed of 73 books from 400's-1500's. It was the authority of the Christian leadership circa 400 which let the world know what can be considered Scripture. That was determined by comparing a writing with the teachings of the Church (Tradition), and whether it was from an Apostle (again, appealing to Tradition). The NT you accept, but the OT, w/7 more inspired books, you gratuitously disapprove of.
RE: Trent on "Faith Alone": You dotted out the part mentioning free will on our part, thus Canon 9 means salvation requires an act of our own free will to accept God's gratuitous justification.
He made us without consulting our will but He will not save us against our will. This Canon targets the Calvinist doctrine of predestinarianism.
Read all those Canons. #1 says we are not justified by our own works, the grace of Jesus is required.
@AmericanBerean CANON 9: "If any one saith, that by faith alone the impious is justified; in such wise as to mean, that nothing else is required to co-operate in order to the obtaining the grace of Justification, and that it is not in any way necessary, that he be prepared and disposed by the movement of his own will; let him be anathema." Bible "Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin," Rom. 3:20. 3:24, 3:28,
@AmericanBerean "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ," (Rom. 5:1)."For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God," (Eph. 2:8).
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost," (Titus 3:5).
@AmericanBerean CANON 12: "If any one shall say that justifying faith is nothing else than confidence in the divine mercy pardoning sins for Christ's sake, or that it is that confidence alone by which we are justified ... let him be accursed" "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name," (John 1:12). "Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law," (Rom. 3:28).
@AmericanBerean Canon 12 Rebutal cont.: "Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the peoples: for this he did once, when he offered up himself," (Heb. 7:25-27).
@AmericanBerean Canon 14: "If any one saith, that man is truly absolved from his sins and justified, because that he assuredly believed himself absolved and justified; or, that no one is truly justified but he who believes himself justified; and that, by this faith alone, absolution and justification are effected; let him be anathema."
"For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness," (Rom. 4:3).
@AmericanBerean Canon 23: "lf any one saith, that a man once justified can sin no more, nor lose grace, and that therefore he that falls and sins was never truly justified; or, on the other hand, that he is able, during his whole life, to avoid all sins, even those that are venial,- except by a special privilege from God, as the Church holds in regard of the Blessed Virgin; let him be anathema." "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life:... John 3:36
@rtarasiak Canon 23 cont. rebutal" "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. 3For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law," (Gal. 5:1-3) and Gal 3:1-3
@AmericanBerean Canon 24: "If any one saith, that the justice received is not preserved and also increased before God through good works; but that the said works are merely the fruits and signs of Justification obtained, but not a cause of the increase thereof; let him be anathema."
@AmericanBerean Canon 30: "If any one saith, that, after the grace of Justification has been received, to every penitent sinner the guilt is remitted, and the debt of eternal punishment is blotted out in such wise, that there remains not any debt of temporal punishment to be discharged either in this world, or in the next in Purgatory, before the entrance to the kingdom of heaven can be opened (to him); let him be anathema."
@rtarasiak Yes, Trent says, as does Scripture, it's not faith alone that saves us. It's faith + obedience (works): Matt7:16-27, John14:15-21. Faith is of prime importance but it is not the end of what is required. As James says, we are justfied by works and not by faith alone, James2:20-26. (Of course works without faith is dead as well.) Justification also requires grace (Eph2:1-10), repentance (Acts2:37-41),
baptism (Acts2:37-41). Works done in (and after) faith are spiritually beneficial.
@AmericanBerean Canon 30 rebutal cont: "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ," (Rom. 5:1).
"And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross," (Col. 2:13-14).
@AmericanBerean Canon 33: "If any one saith, that, by the Catholic doctrine touching Justification, by this holy Synod inset forth in this present decree, the glory of God, or the merits of our Lord Jesus Christ are in any way derogated from, and not rather that the truth of our faith, and the glory in fine of God and of Jesus Christ are rendered (more) illustrious; let him be anathema.
This council declares that if anyone disagrees with it, they are damned. Quite clear the RCC is unbiblical!
Lord God, I pray for the lost in the "spirit of religion" for those who have been misled and deceived in their thinking by wolves in sheep's clothing, Lord open their eyes to see that YOUR sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus is and always will be sufficient for saving those who believe by faith alone! A free gift. Lord touch the Catholics as well as other false man-made religions to bring them out of the works based salvation and show them that the work was already done and victory completed on Calvary
I had to remove the blogger "martlut" due to excessive bitterness and anger in his wording. And the fact that he was not willing to accept reasonable scripture authority alone, but insisted on man-made tradition and only the bias of Catholicism. I even offered my personal e-mail to show clearly by documents the truth that the RCC is wrong on many fundamental issues. But Martlut did not want to debate seriously with in-depth analysis. I offered, he refused! Thus his is excommunicated from blog.
@martlut YOU do not impress me, and I really don;t care if i do not impress you. Jesus loves you and not religion. I pray one day that you will be predestined by our LORD and that on day you will overlook all the wisdom of man, tradition and to be careful of deception in these last days. Remember the gate is narrow and FEW find it, NOT 1.7 billion? What if I am right? You have to decide YOUR fate? I know mine by trusting in God alone, not tradition!
@martlut You mr knowledge, you can write al lthe worldly intelligence and quote the CCC all you want, and justify your works of faith, and merits for salvation. I will stick to the work of God, and Christ alone! John 14:6, 3:16 Rom. 3,4,5 Gal. 2, is all clear to those who have ears to hear the Shepherd. Sorry that you do not have the peace of Christ, sorry you have to try to out do God and maybe get to heaven. I am so sad for you and the lost of the RCC! God bless you and got to reach Catholics!
@martlut You this time missed the rest of the scripture following: Acts 22:14 shows Saul was already chosen by Jesus, thus he was to be baptized just like Christ was a Chosen Son of God to save the world. There is also a Baptism of the holy Spirit, not just water! So with a metaphorical water baptism to "wash" away sins as you say, then why is not the "eucharist" Mass a metaphorical Communion as per the Word in the RCC? ONE Sacrifice, NO longer need anymore sacrifice on any altar! "Finished!"
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
The Catholic Catechism says of baptism, for example:
"Baptism not only purifies from all sins, but also makes the neophyte 'a new creature,' an adopted son of God, who has become a 'partaker of the divine nature,' member of Christ and co-heir with him, and a temple of the Holy Spirit" (Catechism 1265, emphasis added). "... Justified by faith in Baptism, [they] are incorporated into Christ; they therefore have a right to be called Christians" (Catechism 1271).
Man is justified by baptism plus faith, plus additional works (see Catholic Catechism Ref. Nos. 1265-1271, 1987-1995). The Holy Spirit's transforming work in the sinner becomes the grounds, along with faith, for justification. Most good Catholics are therefore very concerned with “being good enough,” "meriting," and “earning” their salvation.
By the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit, we have received eternal life (Titus 3:5). When we trusted Christ, the Holy Spirit began an eternal indwelling ministry in us (John 14:17). Also He was the seal placed on us by the Father to guarantee our future inheritance (Ephesians 4:30). And He baptized us into union with Christ and into the body of believers (1 Corinthians 12:13).
Further, Jesus Christ guaranteed that we are secure in His and the Father's hand, and so He will keep safe each one who has received the gift of eternal life (John 10:28-29).
The eternal security of believers rests on the Father's purpose in choosing us to salvation in eternity past and predestinating us to sonship in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:4-5).
Further, God's power is promised to keep us secure in salvation (Romans 8:28-30), for the ones that the Father foreknew, predestined, called (effectually to salvation, cf. 1 Corinthians 1:21-24), and justified are the very same ones he “glorified”. (Paul uses the past tense since in God's sight it is “good as done”
Regeneration, which is an instantaneous work of the Holy Spirit in originating a new nature in the believing sinner so as to transform the believer from a state of spiritual death to spiritual life (cf. John 3:5, 10:10,28; 1 John 5:11-12)
The resurrection of Jesus (Acts 17:31) is the “assurance” (Greek “pistis,” generally translated “faith”) or pledge God has given that His revelation is true and worthy of acceptance. The “full assurance [Greek “plerophoria,” “full bearing”] of faith” (Heb. 10:22) is a fullness of faith in God which leaves no room for doubt. The “full assurance of understanding” (Col. 2:2) is an complete unwavering conviction of the truth of the declarations of Scripture! Thank God for being saved by His act!
“sola Scriptura” or “the Bible alone” is a short phrase that represents the simple truth that there is only one special revelation from God that man possesses today, the written Scriptures or the Bible. Scripture states this concept repeatedly and emphatically. The very phrase “It is written” means exclusively transcribed, and not hearsay. The command to believe what is written means to believe only the pure word of God. What is at stake before the All Holy God is His incorruptible truth
“For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book: If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the Book of Life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book” —Revelation 22:18-19
The Apostle Peter, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, declares, “knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation. For prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (2 Peter 1:20-21). Logically then, Peter makes it very clear that in order to maintain the purity of Holy God’s written word, the source of interpretation must be from the same pure source as the origin of the Scripture itself
“For with thee is the fountain of life; in thy light we see light.” God’s truth is seen in Psalm 39-the light of God’s truth. The Apostle Paul said the same thing, “Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth but which the Holy Ghost teacheth, comparing spiritual things with spiritual” (I Corinthians 2:13). It is precisely in the light which God’s truth sheds, that His truth is seen. (Cp. John 3:18-21, II Corinthians 4:3-7).
Aligned with Proverbs, the Lord’s strong, clear declaration in Isaiah 8:20 is: “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” The truth is this: since God’s written word alone is inspired, it and it alone is the sole rule of faith. It cannot be otherwise.
People often attempt to give human traditions higher authority than God’s Word. This was true of the Jews of Jesus’ day. In refuting the errors of the Sadducees, the Scripture records the Lord saying, “Ye do err, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God” (Matthew 22:29). Christ Jesus continually castigated and rebuked the Pharisees because they made their traditions on a par with the Word of God—corrupting the very basis of truth by equating their traditions with God’s Word.
The Biblical message breathed out by God is revelation in written form. (2 Timothy 3:15-16). The Biblical claim is that what God has inspired was His written word (2 Peter 1:20-21). When the Lord Jesus Christ said, “the Scripture cannot be broken” (John 10:35), He was speaking of God’s written word. The events, actions, commandments, and truths from God are given to us in propositional form, i.e. logical, written sentences. The Word is this final authority in all matters of faith and morals.
No protestant should quote Scripture at all, for he has no means of knowing which books are inspired; Unless of course, he wants to accept the authority of the Catholic Church for that
Violating thousands of innocent children, all over the world. Lying about it, stonewalling, Pastors moving from one meeting hall to another to ensure they have a fresh supply of victims.
By the way, these were not mistakes. A mistake is when you shoot at someone and miss. These were all intentional acts.
Boy it seems to me your against the International Day of prayer led by the President for all denominations Muslim Buddist you name it that your organization puts on every year which you are affiliated with that secretive organization that goes by the name of the fellowship better break your ties they let those Muslims pray too
@martlut Time will tell? As for me however, I would rather die or be placed in jail then marry or accept homosexuality! Of course the RCC has kept it in their evil past for many centuries! They might as well come out and be proud of themselves! Gay pride! I can see the headlines now! I WILL NEVER COMPROMISE SCRIPTURE FOR YOU THE RCC THE POPE, NOBODY! I would rather die than please man!
Dr. Priestley the words of a man was he infallible he makes no sense at all to begin with lol.what was the name of those places again their right their in your bible mr fundie
@martlut Sure go along with the masses! With worldly thinking! Its still abomination and the Bible never changes! People change and turn from God's Word. I don;t I preach it like it is! I am willing to bet that within a few years you will see the Homosexuals coming out of the "closet" in the RCC and maybe they will follow the Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Lutherans, etc..and accept it as "okay"? Oh yes the RCC is behind the Ecumenical movement! Which will join with Muslims, Buddhists, etc.
@rtarasiak to bad those angelicans Episcopalians one half million of them just fled their churches to enter the catholic church because of their stance on letting homos run their church.
@martlut He was truly translated; and the words here leave us no room to indulge the conjecture of Dr. Priestley, who supposes that as "Enoch, (probably Moses,) Elijah, and Christ, had no relation to any other world or planet, they are no doubt in this;" for we are told that Elijah went up into heaven; and we know, from the sure testimony of the Scripture, that our blessed Lord is at the right hand of the Majesty on high, ever living to make intercession for us.
@martlut And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. 2 Kings 2:11
Silly Goose! RCC tells us theres is levels of sin, venial, mortal, etc.... SIN IS SIN gee their you go again Dissing the Bibles teaching one sin is deadly the other isnt so it says LOL yup sin is sin but in a different degree especially that one and only deadly sin that cant be repented of mr fundie so called pastor..
@martlut No flesh can be justified in the presence of God. ONLY those who are washed by the Blood of Christ will be allowed into the presence of God, in His perfection for us! How awesome is that to know beyond a doubt that Christ is the advocate, mediator of a better and new covenant, where I can go into the throne room of Grace, to be in front of the Judge bevcause Jesus my Lawyer stepped in and paid the price for my crimes of sin! Alleluia! Blessed by the Name of Christ My Lord and Savior!
@rtarasiak Gee I wonder why he let the Prophet go directly to heaven without tasting death sorry you cant Put God in your Fundie Box mr infallible making u doctrine on the fly Yup he stepped in for everyone all one has to do is be in union with him which of course you are not.
who gave you the inspired word of God again they must have been infallible in choosing those books and their interpretation as well. Not your church formed by a twice divorced women now is it.
John 20-30: And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book, etc.
John 21-25: And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written everyone, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written Amen.
Respond to this video... Not that these are bad things the works we do for Christ, however Salvation is only thru His Justification, which is in the inspired Word of God. So YOU can continue to follow tradition of man as even Jesus rebuked, and follow a works based salvation, OR trust in Christ alone? YOU know as well as my 39 years as a Catholic that this is what is presented and taught to the Catholics! This is a fact. This is truth! Then you use scripture out of context to justify it
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God--not because of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:8-10)
@rtarasiak sorry the catholic church says works cant get you into heaven as I have proved still lying their mr fundie.we follow 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
@rtarasiak By the way The catholic Church only trusts in Christs Dive Mercy sorry lying again their Mr Fundie
seems like you spent 39 years in the Bathroom like Luther loved to do. sorry I gave yoy catholic teaching right from the councils and catechism it appears you never read them nor the posting of them by me, Mr Lying fundie and we do know all those scriptures about lying don't we maybe you need a refresher course. Don't worry Ill post them for you. Later
@martlut I could care less of Calvin, Luther, Jerome, Augustus, etc.... The Bible is the only Word, life manual, guide, for all mankind. I will stick with the free gift of Grace from our Lord, Jesus Chris. Obviously for you and the RCC Christ's finished work on the cross is not good enough to save someone? Again, ask ANY Catholic and they will tell you that they do not know if they are saved, by works, by indulgences; rosaries, offerings, Mass, being good, helping others, charity, etc.
"Now if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— each man’s work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire*."
@martlut Thank you for pointing that a person is saved even if he does the wrong works, or useless, but still saved! To err is human, but to be under the blood of Christ, a perfect Blood, it is sufficient enough to save one if complete dying to self, to this world, including man-made tradition and just trust in God's finished work on the cross. I thank God i am a chief of sinners, but have been set free and have a guaranteed inheritance that will not rot nor fade away! Alleluia to the Lamb!
@rtarasiak Only for those who by their ignorance never received the truth will be saved by the Grace of God and not all of them either. But you on the other hand are doomed sorry to give you the Bad news
@martlut IN CONTEXT: Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,Phil 2:9 Because He has the name above all names, yes I will only bow down to Him when He returns or when I see Him in Heaven. For now I "worship Him in Spirit and in Truth" John 4. I do not bow to no man, no pope, no image or cross, or dove or anything carves/man-made! This is idolatry and God is a jealous God. I don't want to make Him mad. Would you?
@martlut Failed to read this scripture in context, Jesus is talking specifically of the offering at the altar, and forgiving a brother who offends you. So I do not need pennies, nor any offering to get into heaven! Oh! that;s right the RCC has been taking money from poor people for over 1500 years! Got to keep laying treasures on the earth! And pay all the pedophile law suits! Did yo know that about 50% of Catholic seminary students are homosexual? FACT! Sad!!! If they would only allow marriage!

@martlut Silly Goose! RCC tells us theres is levels of sin, venial, mortal, etc.... SIN IS SIN! Either Christ will cover you by accepting His sin offering of Himself or NOT? Blashemy of the H.S. is a sin that will not be forgiven which is basically denying the Christ as the Son of God and the ONLY way to heaven. Silly Rabbit, tricks are for kids!!!!
Paul’s ecclesiastical uses of anathema—Galatians 1:8–9 and 1 Corinthians 16:22—in which Paul says that if a person is guilty of certain faults then "let him be anathema." Minimally, this directed the Christian community to hold the offender in a certain regard. This involved his exclusion from fellowship, as clearly must be done in the case of a person preaching a false gospel.
How then can a mere priest profess to lay down the life of the Only Begotten Son of God in the Mass when Christ has never given him license to do such? "Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto Me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting" (Isaiah 1:13).
"The sacrifice of Christ and the sacrifice of the Eucharist are one single sacrifice... In this divine sacrifice which is celebrated in the Mass, the same Christ who offered himself once in a bloody manner on the altar of the cross is contained and offered in an unbloody manner" (Catechism, 1367). Bible: I lay down My Life, that I might take it again. 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of Myself" (John 10:17-18)
"By the consecration of the bread and wine there takes place a change of the whole substance of the bread into the substance of the body of Christ our Lord and of the whole substance of the wine into the substance of his blood. This change the holy Catholic Church has fittingly and properly called transubstantiation" (Catechism, 1376).
"All who die in God's grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation, but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven" (Catechism, 1030).
"The Church gives the name Purgatory to this final purification of the elect" Catechism, 1031).
@rtarasiak Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the LORD: 8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the LORD" (2Corinthians 5:6,8).
"Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it" (Catechism, 846)..Bible: "Neither is there Salvation in any other: for there is none other Name [of Jesus] under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). Whenever any man reveals to us our necessity to attach ourselves to any human organization to receive Salvation-- BEWARE!
@martlut 6th Session, Canon 9: If anyone says that the sinner is justified by faith alone, meaning that nothing else is required to cooperate in order to obtain the grace of justification…let him be anathema (accursed, eternally condemned). Bible: For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. The Council of Trent: "Whosoever shall deny that in the most holy sacrament of the Eucharist there are truly, really, and substantially contained the body and the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, together with his soul and divinity, and consequently Christ entire, but shall affirm that he is present therein only in a sign and figure, or by his power, let him be accursed" Hebrews 10:10-14, "By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
@martlut 6th Session, Canon 30: If anyone says that after the reception of the grace of justification the guilt is so remitted and the debt of eternal punishment so blotted out to every repentant sinner, that no debt of temporal punishment remains to be discharged either in this world or in purgatory before the gates of heaven can be opened, let him be anathema.
Lord we thank you that Nobody can snatch a born-again believer out of your hands!
Yup once you have been Judged and enter either Purgatory or Heaven that is OSAS man made doctrine not taught in the Bible invented By Calvin the Murderer.
I thank you Lord for being the ONLY Mediator between God and Man in hearing our prayers and knowing that You are sufficient for eternal life, the gift of salvation. I praise Your Holy Name for delivering me out of the bondage of Catholicism, and earning eternal life! Lord it is so simple to understand thru Your Holy Spirit! I pray for those who are blind and need to have their eyes opened to the freedom only You can give, the peace that goes beyond all human wisdom and the love that is real!
Lord we thank you that Nobody can snatch a born-again believer out of your hands! We thank you for the freedom of man's wisdom in Catholicism, freedom thru the wisdom of the Spirit who gives life, eternal life from Jesus Christ's one and only sacrifice for all sins! Sin is sin, Jesus took it all upon Himself! Thank you Lord that there is nothing we can do to achieve this on our own! Nothing can trump Your sending You r Son to pay the price for our sin! Nothing but the blood of Christ alone! Amen
Lord, we pray for those blinded by deception and brain washed into believing one must earn salvation! Lord help those who are lost in man-made doctrine which contradicts the Word of God, deliver them from this blindness in Catholicism and set the captives free by drawing them to your kingdom thru the Word of Your Son Christ Jesus! Hep them to have the peace that ONLY you can give knowing the destination in heaven if we trust in You for your justification alone. in Jesus name, Amen!
I thank you Lord for transforming my mind by only the Word of God, and how you delivered me from the deceptive lies of Catholicism and the chains of bondage of the spirit of religion. It is such a blessing to be used by the Lord to see demon people possessed in front of my eyes, a dead man thru prayer come back to life 15 minutes later with no damage, thousands get saved and delivered! Thank You Lord for using me as Your servant to preach ONLY the Word of God. Traditions are not equal to you!
I thank God that I m saved by the promise of God thru Christ! I am so glad after 39 years of RCC lies that the Lord Jesus set me free from traditions of man and a works based salvation trumping God's Work thru Christ! Alleluia! It is wonderful to know beyond a doubt that I can trust Jesus alone for my salvation and be born-again, and thus do the works of my Father in heaven after having the indwelling of the Holy Spirit! I thank God, in using me in Honduras, witnessing truth to lost Catholics!
"For if we sin deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful prospect of judgments . . . (Heb. 10:26-27).
"What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works? Can his faith save him?" (Jas. 2:14).
"So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead" (Jas. 2:17).
"But some one will say, ‘You have faith and I have works.’ Show me your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith. . . .Do you want to be shown, you foolish fellow, that faith apart from works is barren? (Jas. 2:18-20).
"You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone" (Jas. 2:24).
Now as for the Church and the Inquisition. They stepped in to save folks from the Spanish and Give them a trial. As opposed to just killing then by the secular Gov the King. If you were a Muslim you weren't Killed If you were a Jew you weren't Killed you were forced to leave the country or Convert.
But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 25Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
@martlut nothing about a priest you idiot! If i hurt you i confess my sin to you! This is the heart of Christ! Confession of believing in Christ and receiving salvation is only to God thru Christ! ONE mediator! means One there is no co-mediatrix! Lord have mercy on the RCC institution/cult!
@rtarasiak it also appear you Have no Idea what co-mediatrix! means as well and being a catholic for 39 years.
In the simplest term is does not mean she is a Mediator we have only one as I have shown you from catholic teaching ,your still lying about that as well. It means even for the unfamiliar Catholic teaching like you.. She Gave Birth to Christ the sole mediator and giver of all Grace. No Mary No Jesus no Grace
@martlut Words of man again! Send me you e-mail and I will give you documentation to back EVERYTHING I have to say? This space is not big enough. my e-mail is: familypastor@hotmail.com
@martlut They may have? Too bad they did not listen as well as today. Go ahead, bow down to the statues? Go ahead, earn your way to heaven? Go ahead, kiss the pope's ring, go ahead, kiss a crucifix, oh and by the way take JESUS OFF the cross, HE is not there anymore! Dah!!!!!!!!
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean I do not allow my opinion, as many "liberal" pastors do in leading the flock. As a matter of fact, many"flock" have gone away due to telling them the truth od their sin and need of repentence. Either one will hear the truth and repent, or hear the truth and reject the Word of God, the ONLY standard anoyone can trust. Traditions, customs, programs, man-made doctrine should never be part of leading a flock. I am held accountable to God for revealing only His word, keeps error out.
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak OK, you preach and teach the Word of God alone. But, how do you know what constitutes the Word of God?
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean By a relationship with Christ! The Holy Spirit will lead those who are of Christ into all righteousness. Prior, as a Catholic, the Bible was just a book, and I did NOT have the Spirit, for i was not born-again, and only trusted in the RCC. However when the Holy Spirit "will teach us all things" showed me clearly how the RCC contradicts the Word of God and the RCC adds and takes away from the Bible. Thus I only trusted in Christ alone for salvation and was born-again! Left RCC.
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak OK, you're guided by something outside of Scripture to show you the meaning of Scripture. So, if you believe the Bible alone is the revealed Word of God, you have violated the Bible-Alone principal. In that regard you are no different from Catholics. You trust the Spirit infallibly guides interpretation. I trust the Spirit infallibly guides interpretation. The difference is I believe I myself am not infallible in that, but the society He founded, is.
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean NO, you are stretching this, the Holy Spirit will never give a spirit of error or add nor take away from the Word of God, and always glorifies Christ and God. Unfortunately the RCC has added and taken away so much to the Word! This is the spirit of error John spoke of: We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
1 John 4:6 Jesus alone is "truth" and the "way" - John 14:6
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean I do not add to the Word nor take away, the RCC elevates tradition equal with the Word. And the magisterium will even place tradition above the Word of God! Example elevating Mary as co-mediatrix with Christ, and of course there is nothing in scripture to back this up without adding to scripture! So in the Word when it talks about traditions it is always past tense, Ex: "traditions you HEARD.." And of course in Rev. adding or taking away is not a good thing to do!
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean You are fallible just as i am. Even the pope is fallible. "ALL have sinnned and fall short of the glory of God." Rom. 3:23. All i all. Of course the Word declares Christ knew no sin, the exception. So Mary, (who even offerred a sacrifice at the temple for her sin), the popes, priests, you and I, are ALL sinners. Again a tradition of the RCC usurping the Word giving Mary a status that is unbiblical, and adding to the context of the Word of God. Dig and seek the truth my friend!
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak It seems you think "infallible" means "sinless". No, infallible means divinely prevented from erring in teaching faith/morals.
True, the Spirit will never give conflicting interpretations of Scripture to different people. But if two guys, each claiming guidance of the Spirit, have opposing interpretations, how do you know who is right? You can't, without claiming "true guidance" for yourself (just as has Joseph Smith and Martin Luther) or accepting extra-Biblical guidance.
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean The key word you wrote "claiming guidance of the Spirit". This is the problem or root. Where there is any claim to interpret a scripture or disagreement, there must be 1. search the original languages (Hebrew or the Greek) for the proper definition of words or sentences. 2. There must be interpreted in context of the writers subject. 3. One must understand the writers intent, the culture, history, atmosphere, and to whom the intended letter was written for?
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean So with proper hermeneutics, Exegisis, and textual criticism one will discover the meaning of the text. Too many interpret scripture incorrectly taking a word or verse out of the context of the entire passage or the intent of the writer. This is the root of the problem. Example of John 6:53, one does not literally eat Christ;s body per RCC! If you read in context v27-29 its about believing in Christ comparing to the bread that Moses received. they would of known: Lev. 3:17
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak I agree 100% with your 3 points of interpretation.
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@rtarasiak Remember the context of John6: Passover.
Jesus fulfilled/perfected the Old Passover. Participants were required to eat the sacrificial lamb. Jesus is the Lamb of God. There was no baby sheep at the Last Supper. He said "This is my body." God's word causes what it says. Therefore the bread and wine became His body and blood and He commanded/empowered His apostles to celebrate this same change of substance when He said "Do this in remembrance of me".
Calvary began in the upper room.
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean 'This shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations in all your dwellings: you shall eat neither fat nor blood.' " Lev 3:17. Whoever eats any blood, that person shall be cut off from his people.' " Lev 7:27. The Jewish Disciples in the upper room would have know this scripture, and knew Jesus was talking metaphorically. Again in context of John 6, He was talking about Himself being the "Manna from Heaven" and it was about belief and faith, NOT cannibalism.
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak As to "cannibalism" aspect: In John6, many disciples took Jesus literally and left. If Jesus was speaking metaphorically, they misunderstood, and Jesus would have corrected their error. But they understood what He was saying and couldn't accept it. Those who accepted Jesus' word stayed.
Those in the upper room understood it was a Passover feast and that Jesus is the Lamb of which they would partake, miraculously.
He said "My flesh is meat indeed...". Not in symbol, but in reality.
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean Thus if you interpret Jesus in John 6 literally then Do you belive Him ehen He said, "I am the door..."? or "If your eye causes you to sin, pluck your eye out..."? So, your and the RCC literal interpretation is in correct. Also: "so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many." Heb 9:28. There is NO need of a sacrificial Mass anymore, Jesus was sacrificed ONCE and for all sin. Thus a saved person receives the gift of salvation by His work NOT ours. One cannot trump God!
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak Jesus' metaphorical and parabolic speeches are distinguishable from His more literal speakings. Context reveals the literary senses employed.
Jesus' once-for-all sacrifice is manifested in the Mass, not re-executed. You continue to misrepresent what RCC teaches and practices. Look in Revelation... you'll find the Lamb in Heaven continuing to offer His sacrifice to the Father, even though it already happened once (and only once) in the earth's timeline.
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean . Faith is not a separate entity within existence of its own. In the context, the main object of faith is the person of Jesus Christ himself assisting in a few ways. First and verse 46, speaks of being the "one who is from God." In verse 48, he speaks of being the bread of life. Both of these statements are assertions about who Jesus is and our fitting objects of faith. .
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean The one who "eats" of this bread will never die. The "eating" here is paralleled with the "believing" a verse 47 -- any attempt to make this a physical action misses the entire point the Lord is making.

@rtarasiak As to the proscription of blood in Leviticus, I guess that can be considered abrogated with the New Covenant, just as the other dietary restrictions were, and circumcision was and the day of worship moved to Sunday. (Though I will say that drinking real blood of a sacrifice to a false God is not acceptable, because it's idolatry).
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean "By the consecration of the bread and wine there takes place a change of the whole substance of the bread into the substance of the body of Christ our Lord and of the whole substance of the wine into the substance of his blood. This change the holy Catholic Church has fittingly and properly called transubstantiation" (Catechism, 1376) you still have NOT answered this CCC quote? NO man can change a wafer and wine or juice into the actual body and blood of Christ! ALL are sinners!
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak CCC quote... didn't know it was a question. OK, you seem to think it's a man's power supposedly changing bread and wine. It's a sacrament, meaning there's a visible part (bread, wine & the person and words) and an invisible aspect which is God's grace which does all the work. This effect doesn't require the man to be sinless. God uses sinful men for His purposes.
Your statement "NO man can..." would include the Apostles healing people, which makes it absurd. IT'S GOD'S POWER!!!
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean "It's a sacrament, meaning there's a visible part (bread, wine & the person and words) and an invisible aspect which is God's grace which does all the work." All opinion, no scriptural backing in your statement. An example of changing scripture to suit the man-made doctrine or tradition of the RCC. Scripture HAS TO BE the STANDARD and thus it reveals God to us and transforms us, we do not change the scripture as the RCC does to support tradition. improper hermeneutics
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak Scripture: Jesus or Peter or Paul would speak and/or do something (ie apply mud with spit or lay on hands) and God's grace and power would then heal or fill the person. That is what a Sacrament is and does. Faith is necessary of course, but by the action of a man God's power is manifested and grace is applied/distributed.
Sacred Traditional doctrine helped determine the canon of the Bible. Ergo, Traditional doctrine tells us how best to interpret Scripture.
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean I received almost all the "sacraments" yet, I was never "filled"? Thus a man-made doctrine.Per the CCC, the sacraments are necessary for salvation-1129. So a sacrament is a merit. Grace is received as a gift, not anything a human can do. yes, by faith i lay hands and God heals. The Bible was determined by God and what was already "passed" down from Christ to the Apostles which inspired the writers of the Bible. "tradition" in the word is always used in a past tense in Greek.
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak Merit does not equal earn. Merit=reward. To earn something means you have a right to it when you do something, and it is proportionate to what you did (ie a wage). A reward, however, is usually vastly disproportionate to the action being rewarded and cannot be earned. Heavenly rewards are merited. Rom. 2:6–11.
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean example: 2 Thess. 2:15, 1 Thess. 2:13, 1 Cor. 11:2, 2 Tim. 2:2. Thus per the Bible we can eliminate your last statement: "Sacred Traditional doctrine helped determine the canon of the Bible. Ergo, Traditional doctrine tells us how best to interpret Scripture." The Holy Spirit thru Godly man who understood that one cannot add nor take away from the Word. Especially like the 2nd Commandment; RCC changes the text to justify its statues, and idolatry. Besides 7 books addedby RCC
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak Those Bible references support my case. Paul's oral teaching carried equal weight as what he wrote. That's what Sacred Tradition is. A few centuries later the Holy Spirit compiled the NT at the hands of the Church leadership.
Those 7 books were always a part of the Bible. Luther yanked them and you implicitly accept his lone fallible judgement over the councils of the legitimate Church leaders of long before.
Are the 10 Commandments enumerated in the Bible?
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean Could care less about Luther. The fundamentals of basic Christianity are the most important. Ten Commandments and enumeration; Perfect example of how the RCC picks and chooses the scripture! "we have to justify our statues! and bowing down to them!" It makes us money! Build bigger buildings with more indulgences! Sure" Right! Keep praying to the "co-mediatrix" keep praying to dead saints, who maybe in heaven?, keep worshiping a wafer in the monstrance, etc.. please! Jesus alone!
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak The 10 commandments are presented in the Bible without numbering. The two popular schemes go back to Origen and Augustine. The "Protestant" listing is Origen's, the Catholic listing is Augustine's. The lists are not meant to be exhaustive descriptions of the decalogue, they are summations only. The commandments you claim are "left out" by RCC are described in the catechism.
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean okay, yet STILL ALL who call themselves followers of the ONE true God thus will receive the Bible as the only TRUTH, NOT traditions of man, will CLEARLY see that a true follower of Christ will know beyond a doubt to NOT have any statues, carved images, and even bow down to worship or venerate them! God is a jealous God! So, just with this alone, the RCC is wrong, CCC or not? PLEASE accept the free gift of eternal life today! Jesus loves you and YOU can be saved today! NO religion!
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak The trinity... no one can really understand it we ultimately have to accept it on faith.
Augustine was walking on the beach trying to grasp the Trinity and came across a boy playing. The boy had dug a whole in the sand and was running back and forth to the water, carrying back a little water and dumping it in the hole. Augustine told the boy it's impossible to pour the ocean in the hole. The boy said: just so, you cannot really understand the Trinity.
It just can't be done, really.
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean Oh and they have to pay for all the pedophile law suits, more indulgences! OH, just close some more RCC schools and church buildings, sure! Don't forget to confess your sins to a priest! LOL! Oh and pray the Rosary, worship Mary more than Christ, for she is the "Queen of heaven!" and the "Mother of God!" WOW! Where is that in the Bible? God is eternal, no beginnig, no end, alpha and omega, do lets see; Mary was before God! okay!!!!! LOL! You see Berearn, the stupidity and lies.
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak Mary is Queen of Heaven, not because she's some sort of pagan demi-goddess, but by virtue of being the mother of the King of Heaven.
David's Kingdom was the Kingdom of Heaven, manifested on earth. Jesus is King because He is a descendant of David. In the Davidic dynasty the queen was the King's mother, not his wife (he typically had many of those, counter to God's desire).
Perfectly Scriptural.
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean NOT Scriptural! Anytime the Bible, NOT your opinion of the RCC, it uses the name of a false god: The children gather wood, the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven; and they pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke Me to anger.
Jer 7:18. Again YOU stretch the truth and align scripture to YOUR presupposed mind set instead allowing the Scripture to transform and renew your mind. RCC Dogma brain washed you.
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak Besides "queen of heaven", other phrases used by pagans are god, son of God, savior, lord, logos. The difference is the pagans' were counterfeit, the Christian versions are the REAL ones.
You fail to consider the full context in your exegesis. Your acceptance of the human tradition that is Sola Scriptura leads you to a false confidence in your own comprehension.
You should do a video on why God's complete revelation is found in the Bible alone.
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean Mary of the Bible NEVER called herself a Queen nor wanted any glory for herself. SHE only called herself "blessed" RCC added the HOLY mary, Mother of God! She even as a sinner, offered a sacrifice at the temple for her sin, thus confirming scripture that "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." Again, the "assumpition" truly an assumption and evlevating her to co-mediatrix is NOT Biblical and diminshes God and His Son, who is the ONLY WAY TO the Father! John 14:6
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak "All have sinned..." this statement is not all-inclusive of humanity. For one, Jesus, for another, any human before the age of reason. Therefore, the idea that Mary, the Ark of the New Covenant, was sinless is not necessarily in violation of Paul's statement.
She is indeed a humble person. But she was a realist and did "boast" in saying "my soul magnifies the Lord". Can you say that of yourself?
Jesus is the only way to the Father God.Mary points to Him and tells us "Do what he says"
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean Sadly per the RCC, YOU do not have the peace of wghat Apostle PAul wrote about (Rom. 5:1) in KNOWING salvation is of GOD alone, and that the ONE Sacrifice of Christ is sufficient for all mankind to pay for the sins of past, pesent and future! Quite clear to the predestined Spirit Filled Christian. Obviously not clear to a Cathoilc, due to indoctrination of "Being good, indulgences, rosaries, etc... to merit salvation! I will show you my works BY my faith! Faith comes first! gift
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean God bless you and obviously you are lost in a spirit of religion and will never see the truth of the Word alone and trusting only in Christ's work, so with that I bid you good bye. There are many more who are predestined as you are not obviously and you are so caught up in the religion of man that it has clouded up your entire being. God bless you and I will pray that God open your eyes to His truth alone, the standard, and leave tradtion behind...Amen! love in Christ, Pastor Bob
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak You cannot separate the divinity and humanity of Jesus. He IS God. Fully man, yet fully divine. God is three persons, yet each is equally God. Since Mary conceived and birthed Jesus, she is the Mother of God (the Son), though not God (the Father) or God (the Spirit). Just God the 2nd Person of the Trinity.
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean THe fundamentals of faith, like grace, cross, justification, blood, free gift of salvation, not earned! These are the important issues! and tradition of man is of man! Jesus rebuked the "Catholics" of His day, the Pharisees who elevated traditions above or equal to God's Word. There must be a standard, that is what was given already, passed tense to us by those whom were with Christ. This is dependable! Additions following is not, the story gets changed being passed down!
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean the RCC has already elevated Mary as co-mediatrix along with Christ AND was given a name "Queen of Heaven" as well as "assumption of Mary" Yes, all an assumption! ALL made up and not even anywhere close to the Mary of the Bible who told the disciples "do as He says"! So again, until you are regenerated by the Holy Spirit and get out of the indoctrinated mind set of the RCC, you will never see the "light" God bless you and when you get born-again and get saved, get back with me.
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak You are a co-creator of human life when you and your spouse conceive a child, even though you are just a creature. You performed the natural part God designed you for and God infused the soul. In the same sense Mary is a co-mediatrix. Not that she is divine, or more than a creature, but that she was a willing accomplice to God's salvation plan and brought (by God's grace and power) the One True Mediator into the world.
Perfectly Scriptural.
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean Per the CCC quote, if this is "God's grace and power" that is changing the bread, wine, then place some poison in the cup and have the priest pray, then drink it? If it is really the "blood of Christ" then His grace will not allow you to be sick nor die? Again, clearly the CCC is not saying the same thing as you are? This is the root of the problem with the RCC. Bible and then tradition? Which was is right? OH! the Magisterium will decide! The Word is thus kind of downgraded.
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean Also, NO where did Jesus, God, Holy Spirit, tell anyone in the Bible to have a man change a wafer or bread to literally be the body of Christ, same with the Blood. It is never mentioned in the entire book of Acts! Only the broke bread in REMEMBRANCE! Just as 1 Cor. 11 declares it is about remembrance, and His sacrifice on the cross, Why did Apostle Paul never tell the Corinth Church to literally eat His body and drink His blood? Because they all new it was symbolic just as I do!
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak Jesus did tell the Apostles to trans-substantiate the bread and wine, at the Last Supper when He said "Do this in remembrance of me." In it's proper context (Jewish cultural, besides linguistic), "remembrance" means more that just calling to mind. It is a participation in a one-time event in the past.
Paul speaks of the Eucharist in a real way. If it's just a symbol, how could we be guilty of profaning His body?If it's just a symbol, how could we eat judgement on ourselves?
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean Then there arose a dispute between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purification. 26 And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified--behold, He is baptizing, and all are coming to Him!" 27 John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. John 3:25-27 (NKJV) You will not understand until you are "born from above" or in other words "Born-again"
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean Again, you miss the entire point of the scripture in context of what Jesus would become, the passover lamb. IT is about what He was about to do on the cross. A spiritual intention of Christ, and yes many did not understand due to being "stiff necked" or lack of belief, faith. It is a spiritual remembrance, NOT a physical and actual body and blood of Christ, One sacrifice here, nothing to do in heaven. This is all to do with accepting His free gift of salvation and payment of sin!
rtarasiak 6 months ago

AmericanBerean 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean I AM NOT a Protestant. Luther brought many of the false teachings/traditions of the RCC along with him! No, I am just a sinner saved by Grace! And stand alone on the Word of God. No need of traditions of man. Jesus rebuked the "RCC" of His day, the Pharisees and their "Doctrines of man" I now rebuke the RCC for their doctrines of man elevating them as equal with God's Word! Shame on the RCC!!! Repent RCC and turn to Christ alone for His work for us on the cross; freedom!
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@AmericanBerean The original Canon of biblical books were 66 because the additional 7 books had questionable and inaccurate information. Thus the Holy Spirit led Christian men to proclaim the infallible Bible which we have today, verified by God. Either way, the bottom line is this; One is saved by grace alone, by faith alone, and there is only ONE mediator, Christ. This alone disproves so many doctrines of the RCC. No need to debate further. Until you are born-again you will never understand.
rtarasiak 6 months ago
@rtarasiak The infallible Christian Bible was universally composed of 73 books from 400's-1500's. It was the authority of the Christian leadership circa 400 which let the world know what can be considered Scripture. That was determined by comparing a writing with the teachings of the Church (Tradition), and whether it was from an Apostle (again, appealing to Tradition). The NT you accept, but the OT, w/7 more inspired books, you gratuitously disapprove of.
Why do you accept Luther's canon?
AmericanBerean 6 months ago
RE: Trent on "Faith Alone": You dotted out the part mentioning free will on our part, thus Canon 9 means salvation requires an act of our own free will to accept God's gratuitous justification.
He made us without consulting our will but He will not save us against our will. This Canon targets the Calvinist doctrine of predestinarianism.
Read all those Canons. #1 says we are not justified by our own works, the grace of Jesus is required.
As with Scripture, context matters.

@martlut You this time missed the rest of the scripture following: Acts 22:14 shows Saul was already chosen by Jesus, thus he was to be baptized just like Christ was a Chosen Son of God to save the world. So with a metaphorical water baptism to "wash" away sins as you say, then why is not the "eucharist" Mass a metaphorical Communion as per the Word in the RCC? ONE Sacrifice, NO longer need anymore sacrifice on any altar! "Finished!"

"... Justified by faith in Baptism, [they] are incorporated into Christ; they therefore have a right to be called Christians" (Catechism 1271).
rtarasiak 6 months ago
Catholicism says:

And He baptized us into union with Christ and into the body of believers (1 Corinthians 12:13).
rtarasiak 6 months ago
Further, Jesus Christ guaranteed that we are secure in His and the Father's hand, and so He will keep safe each one who has received the gift of eternal life (John 10:28-29).
rtarasiak 6 months ago
The eternal security of believers rests on the Father's purpose in choosing us to salvation in eternity past and predestinating us to sonship in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:4-5).
Further, God's power is promised to keep us secure in salvation (Romans 8:28-30), for the ones that the Father foreknew, predestined, called (effectually to salvation, cf. 1 Corinthians 1:21-24), and justified are the very same ones he “glorified”. (Paul uses the past tense since in God's sight it is “good as done”

1Corinthians 3:12-15:

Alleluia to the Lamb!

martlut 6 months ago
@martlut IN CONTEXT: Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,Phil 2:9 Because He has the name above all names, yes I will only bow down to Him when He returns or when I see Him in Heaven. For now I "worship Him in Spirit and in Truth" John 4. I do not bow to no man, no pope, no image or cross, or dove or anything carves/man-made! This is idolatry and God is a jealous God. martlut 6 months ago
