  • Nice

  • Does stretching help improve stamina?I am 39yr old man,non ballerina, and I have poo pooed the importance of stretching all my life.

How important should stretching be to me if I ever want to become fit again?

  • Why is this in my favourites when I didn't even visit it before?

  • @vivasayshi It depends on how long you've been taking ballet classes. :)

  • If anyone is having trouble with flexability, I recommend trying pilates and yoga. I took a semester of yoga in school and it helped a lot! I learned a lot of stretches and it made me very flexable (perfect for dance). Nice video btw :)

  • I did balley for 6 yrs and starting back. This helped a lot

  • isso sim é uma escola uma aula de verdade de ballet classico!

  • ei tehnyt spagaattia kunnolla

!!!! (look at google what is it's mean)

  • thanks :D everone you have mad me feel alot more confident im 22 and im looking to start D

  • @indigobutterfly89 Me too :)

  • very helpful!! thanks alot!! I've had to skip my lessons lately and I could practically feel my muscles shrinking without the stretching, so, thanks alot for this :)

  • How long does it usually take to be able to successfully be on pointe?

  • im 15, can i join ballet? and what level would i start in? :) thanks i did ballet when i was little and quit i regret it soo much!! i started taking jazz and have been dancing since i was around 5

  • I look forward to working on these exercises. And I must agree, it's never too late to start dance. I started ballet and pointe when I was 29. I have some challenges with flexibility, but with some more persistance, I'll have the proper turn out I'm looking for.

  • @TheMiramelle im thoroughly inspired. always thot i was too old n fat

  • @ekimbro08 when I started pointe I was about 180 pounds and had a hard time bending to tie my shoes. I've managed to lose a lot of that weight through the dance and being more aware of what I was eating.

  • Ballet really helps if you have hip dysplasia (at least I found). I used to fall over and trip all the time when my hip would pop out of place. 2-3 months of ballet and it stopped happening completely.

  • Haha I have the leotard that the students wearing!!!

  • coool im gonna do it

  • it looks easy but its HARD but i still do it every day at home :)

  • adoro

  • I'm 14 . Is it too late for my body to be flexible ? I can only do splits.

  • @97soshinee Dont ask if its too late. Its never too late. trust me.

  • ive been doing ballet since i was 3 and i am almost 15 now!!LOL im going to try these because my teacher says that im not flexible enough x thanks <3

  • ive been doing ballet 13 years and these are the steps i used for my splits

  • have u ever seen annyone of those "scary movies?" well the teacher looks like cindy cambell (idk how u spell that) Xd

  • i shouldn't have quit ballet long ago. now i'm freaking jealous of my ballerina cousin; her body is so freaking toned and awesomely flexible D:

  • I'm going as Black Swan for Halloween this but I need to lose weight and strengthen my legs to fit into my costume

  • i cant do the spilt, but if i do stretches for about half an hour a day will that help me slowly to do the spilts, please help

  • @MsOctoberstorm ofcourse it helps.you have to do streches everytime:)

  • Im afraid of pulling my leg muscles ! ... I'll try it anyways :)

  • what if you cant reeach that far to your leg bcuz your not flexible?

  • What do you call the band thingy?

  • @reddiholic its a elastic exercise band, they sell them in dance shops or Discount Dance Supply, or sports shops. Make sure if you're just starting out to know the resistance on the bands, they come in light weight to heavy weight, heavy weight being more difficult to resist against. The ones I bought from Discount dance supply came with two, one med and one heavy weight.

  • @reddiholic

    theraband

    read the descrtion

  • All your vídeos Are cute, Keep like that xoxo -3 :D

  • Thanks for the tips

  • Have you ever noticed that most people that do gymnastics or take dance lessons are flat chested?

  • @baby03102000 I dance and I have pretty big boobs :x that's why I never consider going professional. don't have the right body..

  • @TheChaiTeaLatte I know what you mean ...I know what you mean 0 _ 0

  • @baby03102000 k wt mean wiff tat.... im mean i done ballet since i was 4 n igot a nice body n i got pretty biq boobs for my age n a nice ass n im jux 12

  • @baby03102000 Aggressive exercise/dietying at a young age can do that to you but some dancers are just naturally like that . In the case of gymnastics sometimes some nasty coaches can encourage young girls to take hormones that basically makes them a little boy.

Girls are actually meant to be a little chubbier in their teens, it helps them develop a more feminine physique as they get older. Out of all the sports though I would say ballet keeps women's shape the most feminine.

  • I'm worried about doing this i may have leg cramps. :(

  • On the first stretch can you slightly bend your knee when you aren't able to go much further?

  • I can almost do the splits noww!! thanks so much!!

  • poor child is like laying on the floor whole time when she talks, but thnx for the tips!

  • shoot i take ballet nd once she says we are going across the floor i want to RUN away!!! Intermediate is what i take

  • I have done 8 years of martial arts, I've also done ballroom dance, soccer, judo, ballet, fitness training, zumba, and theatre dance (cabaret), Out of all of this the hardest was by far ballet. It is so hard that I in fact hate it!! Running 7 miles is nothing, compared to an hour of ballet... kill me!!

  • @ene777 Lol !

  • @ene777 that shows you don't have the passion for it. I am 14, dance ballet since I am 3 years old and since I'm 9 on the balletacademic Amsterdam, next schoolyear my 6th year. You just can hold on when you really want it, and when it goes like 80% of the day through your head. otherwise you'll break. you need to live for your dance, so when you're still dancing ballet and you don't enjoy, stop!

  • Great video, thanks for sharing!

  • @thetearrunsheads

Practice touching your toes with your hands, and bringing the head down to the leg. Then you can do the resistance exercises.

  • what if im not flexible enough to grab my ankle like she does?

  • @thetearunshead Use a rope/wear shoes with laces to pull etc.

  • @thetearunshead You could also grab your calf or the inside of your knee. make sure you start off slowly though, don't force it

  • i like is video

  • at 2:00 ,

is that excersise supposed to make me feel

sick in my stomach when i do it ? :\

  • Thank you for sharing these exercises. My 6 year old is taking ballet and these are things that she can work up to. No way is ballet easy but it is amazing!!!

  • dance period is not easy. Anything that requires strength, endurance, balance, and grace is not easy. that's a fact, not just my opinion.

  • lol if people saw all the weird workouts we did in class, and tried them themselves, they would never dare call ballet easy again

  • tights tights tights

  • how do you spell the name of that ban they used?

  • Ballet is hard with the point shoes :S

  • Stop smacking your lips lady!!!! by the way good exercises:)

  • i didn't know u can flex your feet

  • ballet is so not easy , people that thinks ballet is easy well their stupid , If they think it's easy well i wanna see them making video they doing ballet and tell if it's easy or not?

  • ballet is really hard, u need to get the right turnout, if u do one small, tiny thing wrong, u get the whole exercise screwed. :/

  • ballet is so not easy at all. If you have your position wrong it's gonna ruin the whole thing

  • Thank you very much for this video I started with ballet one year ago. I am creating my home exercise program because I am not strong enough. Thanks a lot and keep on dancing :-) Anyway I am 25 but there is never too late for dance, I think :-)

  • Ballet may seem easy, but it's NOT. It's form, concentration, and balance. These videos were great for practice, when I was out sick. I love ballet.

  • Okay, I think you can't learn ballet alone at home BUT there are exercises, what you can do at home, make your body stronger, make your balance better. These exercises are good, when you learn ballet with a ballet teacher, and you want to make a little practice at home, but you have no idea.

  • I live in a small town and we don't have any ballet classes here, so thanks :)

  • @clearles There are really great dvds to practice ballet with. I check them out from the library and order them on amazon.

  • thts not 5th position, its 4th position.

  • @TheFruitcakeGirlz No, that is 5th. 4th is at the ball of your foot.

  • @TheFruitcakeGirlz it is fith position. :)

  • the ballerina is so beautiful(:

  • I was just hoping these stretches would be really different,I already do these in class. ;s But this was really well instructed though!

  • I'm fat and not flexible. I also stink at ballet. It is so hard, but it's fun and I want to be better. Thank you so much for this video. I'm sure my flexibility will improve in no time.

  • Had my first ballet class today. It is SO hard.

  • @shollo12 hello how old are you. I'm 13 and a dancer, i hate when people say in order to be good at dancing you must start at age 2 or 3, thats not true 2 of my friends started last year and are showing amazing progress. Stay strong in your ballet class xx Madisynn

  • @Mad4MileyCyrus Hello there little lady. I am 22 years old..yeah..I know. I have noticed a difference already (week or 2 before class began I started trying to learn the splits and I'm sure I'm getting nearer). It's pretty uncomfortable sometimes but I'm not going to push it as I don't want an injury! I'm also taking BodyBalance classes which include pilates and yoga. However I'm really clumpsy & on a medication with can mess with my balance & concentration. Thanks for your encouragement! xxx

  • @shollo12 hi ! i just want to ask you wat age did you start ballet :)

  • @sharijah100 couple of months ago T_T trololo....

  • @shollo12 how old are you? i want to try ballet soo badly but i think im too old to learn it, well it would be a lot more difficult! :(

  • @0Massiekurr0 I am 23 now. Its a little disheartening seeing comments from people going "Hi, Im 13 and I can only do this this this and this, help!!!" I did it a little when I was like, 4-5 but my teacher was an evil boot so I quit and its only recently I've become interested again. I say just go for it, everybody is different :)

  • i know many people how startet ballet, then they were adults!

  • These excersises are great. I can seriously feel them working. I'm gonna try do these every day so I can get flexible and strong. But yeah, your videos are uber helpful. Thanks! :)

  • Im just starting ballet I am very excited but i don't start until school begins my teacher told me to stay in shape and stretch every day I know how to do normal stretches for sports,I thought that ballet would be different so I asked & my teacher said that in ballet you stretch different areas and the same and that looking up special stretches for ballet and combinding them with the ones I know is a great way to get started so this helped alot on stretching my legs. This helped alot thanks!!!!!

  • i did ballet when i was three , and my mom made me stop when i turned about 9 or 10 because she didnt like my teacher /:

im 12 amost 13 , and thouergh the years so far iive done gymnastics for a year and soccer for 5 years , and i ' m ready to get back in ballet , im so exicted .

this is gonna help me (:

    THAAANKKYOUU !!!

  • I am 15 and regret not doing ballet when I was younger because I want more than anything to be able to do point ballet but apparently you have to do years of ballet (not on pointe) beforehand!! GRRRRRRR FML and apparently 15 is the latest you should start doing pointe but i get all my info from google lol please someone reply and be inspirational or the opposite!!

  • @MrsSimLuva Hey! It does take years and years of training before you can go on pointe, but I get to go on pointe this year and I am soooooooo excited!!! But, if you keep working, get your flexibility, strength, and point up, you can do it!

  • @MrsSimLuva Heey, i'm now 15, have done ballet for 5 years but have stopped for about 5 years (which i great alot for stopping) Now i really want to continue finishing my RAD grades so i have been ringing different ballet classes up, one said i was too old (whatever) but others said yeahh come along! I dont think you should give up! BELIEVE IN YOUSELF! to begin with, some of my family were like ohh you are too old now and blah blah blah but heeyy i'm gonna try my best to carry on

  • @MrsSimLuva It isn't too late. Although I took ballet when I was about 4, I didn't REALLY start until I was 15. I trained for a year and my teacher felt I was ready to go on pointe. Usually, you have to train for a few years, but it's possible if you work really hard. Also, just for credibility's sake, she was a professional from ABT, so she did know what she was talking about when she put me on pointe. So it's definitely possible, you just need to be willing to work extremely hard!

  • ugh... for some reason the halter leo bugs me...probably because we're not allowed to wear them here

  • @1:26

  • I'm 23 now and getting ready to begin ballet classes in August...I find some of these stretching and beginners videos helpful...they are getting me ready for what lies ahead...I admit, before doing more research on beginning ballet I was a bit skeptical that I would ever be any good...my cousin, whose been dancing for years, is a dancer and she practically laughed in my face when I stated I wanted to learn ballet...

  • @LuvlyUnknown Power to you! I'm 19 and feeling like a granny trying to start. But I believe that as long as your is in it, you have every right in the world start dancing!

  • @littlelucifer69

    Thanx for that....good luck!!!

  • @LuvlyUnknown I meant "your HEART is in it". That's what I get for having ADD and trying to type lol.

  • @littlelucifer69

Lol..no problem...I knew what you meant...

  • Just reading the comments, you're never too old to start ballet! I'm 23 and just did my grade 3 ballet exam! Just lots of work and practise and don't let the younger ones make you feel like you're no good! :)

  • i need to ...

  • 4:28 that is not 5th position that is a dog's breakfast

  • These videos are so helpful! I am starting ballet at a much older age and I am tyring to catch up on technique as quickly as possible, these exercises are so useful so thanks! I have to ask though - how do you the spell the name of the elastic thing you are using for resistance? I want to e-bay it!

  • Is 16 too late to start ballet? ;/

  • @FluffyyBrush no!!

    u can really join anytime,

but, you need to no the basics!!

so if you start taking classes take beginner classes.\

ballet is one of the hardest dance ''groups'' to do.

    GOOD LUCK! (:

  • @FluffyyBrush its never too late ! :)

  • @FluffyyBrush no way you just have to 'catch up' to others in your class just practice lots

  • thera band---- to me is an old stretchy shirt :D

  • .jgt

  • @grb3ballerinas same I hate it!

  • what is the name of the band?

  • @HijadelaIglesia Thera-band

  • I get mad at people who think ballet is stupid and easy it's not

  • @grb3ballerinas yeaah is kinda hard ..it seems easy but when you try is the most difficult thing ..and is art !

  • @grb3ballerinas I know!!It's painful and takes a LOT of time!!

  • @grb3ballerinas id love to see theem last fivee minutes at the barre lol or the whole class for that matter :D

  • @grb3ballerinas Foreal. Ballet is really hard.

  • @grb3ballerinas i agree. its hard. i dont care what anyone says. its painful and difficult. but so much fun.

  • @grb3ballerinas Oh man AMEN to that.

  • @grb3ballerinas i hate that

People have no respect for dancers

  • @picture745 your stupid if you have nothing nice to say don't talk at all ps. I do ballet and it's harder then it looks I get angra

  • Starting ballet again, but can't afford lessons this is awesome

  • @fuzzybear870 You spelled battement wrong.

  • @picture745 then u are stupid

  • @fireshadow1328 your saying ballets stupid but i bet youv'e never even been to a class. im only 12 and i have been dancing since i was three, ballet is not stupid its painful... its hard work... and its beautiful so stop being insulting!!!!

  • @Thefayelily i'm not saying that ballet is stupid. i'm saying that the person who said that ballet is stupid is the stupid one. i enjoy ballet. a lot. and going on pointe IS painful... bleeding

  • @Thefayelily oh and i'm a year younger than u and started dancing since i was 3 years old too :)

  • @picture745 people like you piss me off. ever seen the workouts some of these girls and boys do? ever witnessed the stress, the pain, the total strain of it all, making every point of your toes perfect?! its not easy man! I'm not that great at it yet, but its no fun and games. lets see you survive a dance clas for a day! see how far that gets you, since you know so much about how 'stupid' dance is, smarty smarticle. >:(

  • waoo! this helped me soo much thankyouuu!

  • @Yuffie3982 If you believe in WASP influence or anything like that today, you're straight up ignoring the facts; there has been a very considerable prejudice and movement against "white" America in this country. Maybe we don't all want to be grouped in with the Jewish architects of war like Perle, Frum, Wolfowitz, and Feith (who stand for nothing other than Zionism/Israeli dominance). Maybe I'm Finnish and feel like A FEW delineations deserve to be made. I hear you though. People ARE people.

  • @Yuffie3982 Yes they are on everyday DVDs & for many people not only are they NOT helpful but dangerous! Sadly too often people people DO NOT recognize when they are "overextending themselves" & this society still has the mentality of "No Pain, No Gain" which is a HUGE misconception! There is a HUGE difference between Pain and Discomfort & too many people DON'T know the difference!

  • @Yuffie3982 Yes, from a Eurocentric perspective (no such thing as "Eurocentric" look) as well as common Eastern and Middle-Eastern perspectives; and if anything, American media does the opposite of promote Eurocentric ideals; if you look at any other country, like Taiwan, India, Mexico, or Brazil, it's always the most charismatic and attractive people who represent the cultural schemas in media; in America, it's all about connections, background, and rarely the intangibles/quality of the actor.

  • @Yuffie3982 Women who are conventionally attractive in the way these two are are simply much more common in some places than others. I'd call them below average for my area, even though I find them attractive. Even geographically proximate cities can exhibit very different frequencies of certain attractive traits. For example, the mostly Jewish yet deemed "WASP-y" areas tend to have a very small selection of both attractive males and females. These two are quite far from WASP-y, for the record.

  • this can be VERY dangerous if you don't know what you're feeling for... or actually doing! Mimicking movement is NOT a way to learn how to move, dance or anything else!
