@maxsterling619 i use sony vagas pro, i have been useing this for about a year now so i know alot about this program. but when i plug in the firewire to the PC nothing happends. no sound, seems like the cumputer isnt reconizeing it. and when i pull up the thing in vagas it says camera not recognized. am i doing something wrong or whats going on?
i got this cam, cant figure out how to transfer everything to the computer tho. i bought the firewire cable plug it up but nothing pops up on my computer
I Have a Samsung R530 and i cant see any fire wire connections? if it doesn't have the connection how am i meant to upload my footage or do all laptops have this?
everytime i try to upload my video to my computer the picture is really grainy and dosent look good at all, i think my computer is compressing the video how to do get my computer to copy the full dv quality image?
@harhelo this is a really good question. So far, I've tried to programs that give the best quality: avid mc and main concept encoder's capture, but there is a trade off avid rips vide that can't be used with premier or vegas and main concept need a really fast comp to work the footage on vegas.
@milfilmz1 The actual term is "lens hood", which is designed for preventing lens flare and not for blocking the sun unless you're refering to a "matte box" with a "french flag"; then you got a sun shade. Are you talking about the sun shade for the LCD screen? If I called it a "lens hood", my bad.
@RedMercuryStudios a boom or shotgun mic will plug in to this camera, but you will need an XLR adapter if you plan to use a Sennhieser condenser mic on it. lens hoods usually come stock with the camera if you get it new.
I know a (very) small bit about cameras. I didn't catch the frames per second information about the camera. Is it 35p, 30p, 24p? I'm thinking about buying one, but, I want a more professional looking picture. Any thoughts?
@dirtbiker103 From what I've seen from test screenings, the xm1 seems to have a slightly clearer image than the GL1. They look exact from a hardware standpoint. The GL1 captures images alittle bit warmer than the xm1. I would research the specs alittle bit more before commiting to one. Keep in mind that the frame mode is the same on both and if you're shooting snow or skate boarding, you should shoot in normal mode first than set progressive in post.
@codymurph14 At the current price range for this camera, you could invest it into something better like the Pannasonic DVX100A or save you pennies and get an XL2 with interchangable lenses. The GL1 is great if you need to shoot something quick with great color depth but it won't have the detail of an HD camera.
I'm looking to buy a used canon camcorder for music videos and skateboarding etc. Do you think this one would be helpful for that? If not what kind should i get? Also where is a place that would sell canon used camcorders for a good price? Preferable $500-$1000. Thanks!!!
i got a gl1 with a wide angle on it, its sick for filming skate videos i just need to buy a capture card so i can take all my videos and transfer them to my computer
In Barbados that price range of $500-$900 is actually $1000-$1800 due to our exchange rate of US$1=BDS$2. And ebay doesn't really help anymore cause every fool with money to waste goes and buys the cameras that go for good deals.
i have a gl1 and i am trying to go for that wide film look can you suggest a lense and an adapter, 35mm where do i look it seems so difficult. if you find one can u send me a link to the site, i would appreciate it, thanks.
the best way to get that 35mm look on any digital camcorder would be a red rock micro, but those are very expensive; there are however ways to create 35mm lens adapters. There are plenty of yt videos on how to make these adapters.
Is this camera good for interview style usage in loud low light settings. I will use a shotgun mic as well with a xlr to mic input adaptors. what do you think?
Great vid. Do you ar anyone know how to turn down the audio lever while recording? I love my GL 1 until I found out Canon skipped that seep..I NEED HELP!!
There is no way that I know to adjust the audio on the GL1. Your only hope is to get an adjustable eternal XLR audio adapter like I mentioned in this video.
1-you should always clean the head when a-heavy usage(wedding, special events that require multiple tapes) b-when you use different brands of tape(not recommended)
2-I use the camera but that is a bad thing because over time the heads will wear out. try using a dv capture deck or if you can't afford it, try using an old dv cam.
3-gl1 are arguably the most user friendly prosumer on the market making it perfect for run and gun documentary filming.
is this camera campatable with a sd memory card, instead of using tapes?

@TrustSKATETEAM1 Yes, but I highly recomend a DV deck for capturing footage to prolong the life of the GL1's DV heads.

good video, just got a few questions.
1 - do the heads need to be clean? if so how regularly
2- would you recommend getting a capture camera to put the footage off that camera onto ur computer or can u just use that camera?
3 - is this a hard camera to set the setting right if you use manual settings
hope you can help, cheers
