  • I miss you Danny.... Bill Crane here... I came to GIT to play in your Fusion performance class.. I miss you. You'll remember me... I'm the unremarkable guy always trying to blow with my Yamaha SY77 comping... You're right. I wish I had learned melody... I'm playing a lot of piano right now... Classic rock... But I, in essence game to G.I.T because of you and Steve Travato... Tell him that. I'm gonna get back to my Fusion development. I wanted to salute you.. Superb phrasing! Love ya

  • DAN THE MAN!!! TRIADS!!! God I miss Dans classes! :(

  • @Samakar Tell me.. I had him as my private teacher for a whole 6 months.. It was hard work. but worth every second..

  • @ArthlecMann Awesome! What year did you graduate? I just graduated last year, September 09, got to play with a latin pop band at the Wiltern, will never forget that ahaha. What are you up to out in the world now?

  • yeah....

  • I really love seeing this sort of stuff in Guitar World. This is the stuff a performing guitarist needs to get by in the world. To get a paying gig at functions being able to play semi-quaver quintuplets at 155 BPM isn't important - but being able to vamp over chords, play changes and knowing "Message in a Bottle" - THOSE are the things younger guitarists shoud work an. Shred all you want of course, but a bit of advice - learn the stuff for contemporary stuff too, theres more to music than metal

  • @ibanezbloke

eyebrow raise (akin to that of Teal'c or Spock)

I think this stuff is awesome... and learning all the inversions in the differant voiceings is cool

but i don't play music for money... i play for me...

if that builds me a fan base and lets me do the #1 thing in the world (perform on stage) so be it... if it means i get to sit in my room and just jam along with guitar pro ... so be it...

i think its up to these younger guitarists to find what they 'should work on' themselves.

  • Dan once again thank you. You have sparked some inspiration in an unlikely place.

  • Awesome Dan, I like the "Mr Miyagi, wax on wax off" approach to application....

  • I've been playing guitar for over 20 years now. Made me want to pick up my axe and learn some new licks. I have not felt that way in a long time.

  • Good, but .... subitutlos why not in Spanish!

    A greeting from Spain

  • i'm never going to learn this, it's pretty fucking boring. if this gets you laid, i don't know shit about seducing women.

  • "Yeahh" LOL

  • Awesome. Great lesson.

  • omg that tone is killing me :X <3

  • "yeah!" sometimes I question myself why I didn't already give up playing guitar...

  • wonder if he is related to Paul Gilbert

  • @deandimedof No, but maybe he was Paul's teacher when he was in MI. He said that for more than thousands times....

  • Thanks Mr. Gilbert, I picked my guitar and started jamming on the chords you were using, even using a barred triad at the 7th and 9th fret with hammer on's and pull offs.

  • I really did have questions and i would love to call him!

    :(

  • Bookmarked!

  • Great lesson! I'm looking for more creative things to do with my playing.

  • why do guys like this play suhr guitars? im sorta surprised there isnt an arm band/scrunchy near the nut

  • Where can I find the tabs?

  • nice voice

  • i seen him play at the open house, he's really awesomeeeeeee im gonna love learning from him for sure :))

  • One of the best teachers I've had at MI...

  • This dude lives outside my house.

  • The first example sounds like the chorus of Stairway To Heaven

  • It´s real fun to wtach him play because you can see that he really loves what he do!

  • he like them triforce

  • Nice lesson, with a lot of uses. Nice tone too. Ta!

  • Dan's a great player with really creative ideas

  • that is a beautiful guitar!

  • @Ibik it better be for 3 grand.

  • That guitar is beautiful.

  • He looked like Albert Einstein from afar

  • @b44styreraug ja ja ja ja ja ja ja ja ja so... ja ja ja ja ja ja ja XD

  • @b44styreraug I had a few classes with him at MI, he used to play random things that would just blow everybody's mind. The whole class would gasp at the same time. I heard some things in his class that I haven't heard since and I don't know if I'll ever hear it again. He is like Einstein on a guitar, he has so many more nuggets of musical wisdom like this. He's a monster.

  • dan gilbert is an amazing guitarist

i went to MI summer shot

    such a cool guy.

  • Is it just me, or are the coolest (not necessarily best; coolest) guitarist Suhr players? Dan Gilbert, Guthrie Govan; both very skilled players, but also very fucking cool haha

  • he reminds me of Frank Zappa lol idk why :p

  • "yeah" this guy is great...

  • His voice reminds me of the guy on postal 2. Thats a good thing. cool lesson

  • triad 1 reminded me of led zep's Stair Way To Heaven's break

  • @Schizophrenia222 yeah it kinda does sound like that

  • muito bom

  • \\m// (>_<) \\m//

  • Cool, really like the funk stuff!
