In this video I don't add anything to the resin : just heat it (too much, I'm afraid), take away the big pieces of extraneous material (like bark, but not the other impurities). With pine resin, I add charcoal and beeswax, but with staghorn sumac resin it doesn't seem necessary. (I've only found a few staghorn sumacs producing resin, in small amounts : no generalization possible).
@freejutube Very interesting. We only have staghorn sumac as an ornamental bush. It does not grow naturally here. I like your stove too! cool stuff. Dan
I'm going to be looking closer at our sumacs, staghorn and smooth, and see if I can find this resin too, as it looks pretty good. Our sumac trunks are nowhere near that diameter though, so I don't know if they'll be oozing or not. Thanks for sharing this.
I've not yet found references about this resin, but it seems hyper sticky ! On the internet we find frequently "sumac" associated with "poison" and "dermatitis". Scary, but apparently there is no such risk with Staghorn sumac itself, according to "Poisonous plants: a handbook for doctors, pharmacists, toxicologists".
im enjoying your vids! what do you put in your pitch to make glue?

I've never heard of Staghorn sumac resin. Those sumac trees are huge, here they are much much smaller.

@MiWilderness ; @anxietor
(height of the trees in the video : ~ 4m)
