  • In 2008, just with a VHS.

  • Wow. You have a lot of time on your hands. lol. I'm really confused...Do I need the amp? I think I might just buy a speaker...lol even though they do not offer mp5 sub woofers, or at least a cheap one. I might give up lol btw your genius is attractive hehe

  • well...i have a better idea...buy a speaker XD

  • no, they proved that bullshit on mythbusters.

  • this video looks old but is really cool, anyways i wished u would have tried a techno song...

  • wow, that was cool! =o. that is a perfect demonstration of the principle of overdrive too in terms of the distortion when too loud. very nice :D

  • That is so cool that you made that work! Great vid-

  • what is this song?? it sounds really cool(the song)....ok, the speaker aight as well.

  • I found it on YouTube, it's a Russian song. Search "No telephone russian" on YouTube and the first result should be "More old russian rock - WHAT Radio". That is the song. The guy talks for a while, then plays the song.

  • Well, you showed it could work! Not like that other video which was very misleading. Did you see the nasty comments he got? Anyway, yeah, a motor COULD work as a speaker cone driver, since it is a set of electromagnets. You could also use a solenoid (if it was low enough voltage)

As you know, a speaker is just an electromagnet attached to a cone. The trick is in the quality of the coils and so on. Interesting video, thanks!

  • By the way, I picked up my Concord F-88 at the post office yesterday, it's a neat machine.

  • Ah, nice. Now, of course, we need a CassetteMaster video telling us all about it! I'd be interested to know how it compares to the National SNAP, since Matsushita made both brands.

  • Well,YOU did the right thing to do! You turned a crappy prank into something that is REAL! Good job on the experiment!

  • You see it just sounds like drums.

  • The music sounds quite a bit better when you put the microphone inside the tissue box. Could you damage the motor by doing that? What if you simply held the motor to your ear? Could you hear music playing from the motor if you did that?

  • Putting a horribly low frequency bipolar square wave on the tape will make a simple drum machine with that contraption. Try it.

  • If you put the motor near you ear, you can hear it paly.

  • Kinda looks like the funny contraptions i would do a number of years back lol That bass sound was pretty damn awesome. Good stuff there man. :)

  • wow, that's cool, And it worked! Unlike that plate and penny thing, that does not work.

  • that is really really amazing. fantastic

  • Ricky, you inspire me! Your a real thinker pal. Don't ever loose that.

  • Awesome video, i love the way youve taken a stupid prank and turned it into somthing REAL. I wonder if hacks2know will watch this..

  • whats that noise in the background at 4:39?

it sounds pretty good when you put the mic in the box considering its just a motor some tape and toothpicks and a tissue box, whats the song id like to try it on my hard drive speaker

  • didn't you did that before with a motorized toy?

  • and tin foil :-)

  • Very cool design and successful experiment.

  • iam a little upset now because my dog died around 9pm today. your video help me to relax.

  • I discovered the electric motor's ability to play music way back in 1988-89 I loved playing with motors as a kid ^^

  • very ingenious! I have an old transistor radio which has a solenoid type coil mounted on a circuit board and a metal wire which connects it to a paper diaphragm...your speaker reminded me of that design.

  • wow, I got to see that! I remember when I was a kid I have a toy phone with a peizo electric speaker attach to a diaphragm. The peizo tweeters in boombox's should've had that design too.

  • retrochad ive never seen that before do you have a video of that id like to see it

  • That was pretty cool!

The end part with the mic inside... that bass sounded pretty powerful.

  • Fantastic!

  • thats how toothbrushes work

  • Thats awesome! It sounds pretty good! (Well, it sounds awful but it's awesome considering the fact that it's not even a speaker!)

  • Holy crap I didn't know you can use an electric motor to play music! i know you can do the same with a hard drive, but I never heard a motor before!

HOLY CRAP THAT'S AWESOME! Just when I thought you done the most awesome thing ever, you keep doing awesome things like this!

  • Thats pretty wild!

  • Lol! I also saw the vid of someone making a speaker out of a paper plate. Coondog made a vid of a dc motor playing music. I believe it was a toy engine or something.

  • yes i posted a video on singing fans playing music thru the motors

  • Andrewjarmans would love to see that, lol!

  • ill send it to him since i figured out how to send videos on here

  • watch it, he will send you massive stupid comments like "can show fan collection now" or "it sing".

  • lol if he does i can delete his comments
