Here's a tip: i have the roccat kave solid. Its pretty cheap but has REAL 5.1 sound with 3 speakers per ear. But you need a soundcard from your pc or the turtle beach sound processor and a little USB soundcard for ps3 voice chat. Works great for me.

Do you necessarily care about surround sound and the mic because if you don't if would just get quality headphones which can be used in any situation and then buying a separate quality mic. Also are you in a public area where people can hear what your playing if not then a open headphone is a choice. Though if you want simplicity get a headset
