I think of Mark 7:14-23. Jesus said that sin comes from within not from without. I feel that when people open themselves up to these things they let down their guard and are influenced. I believe your advice is good. Jesus didn't give grace as a free pass to do what we please. And if we truly repent, we turn from sin and god will fill us. 1 Peter 3:11. "He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it" If our goal is to live like Christ, we need to consider, wwjd.
Christians are different in their understanding of our walk with Christ. I used to think it was cool to listen to secular and gospel music, till I saw and was possessed by devils. It took God to show me. It was a fight cause I was hard-headed. Disciplined myself to follow Romans 12:1,2.
1st Corinthians 5:14-21, Romans 6, Colossians 3, etc. Those books deal with living for Jesus as one alive from the dead, walking in the new life, with a mind seeking Christ and mortifying our former lifestyle. That answers the question of WWJD. There's more to this Christian walk, but as the Captain of our salvation said, "Repent ye and believe the gospel."
Frankly I don't give a shit what lame ass music a christians listen too. But I refuse to let these deluded, fascist douche bags dictate what music I listen too.
I'm a freethinker and seculer music to me has done alot for my intellectual understanding of the world, made me understand the emportance of thinking for your self, questioning things especialy authority! I might have touched a nerve on traditinal thinkers, but it's true, it's bad to let people think for you ( or supernatural power). I listion to punk and metal two types of music with a similer message, questian authority, think for your self and fight the system!
I've posted so many comments, and even sent personal messages to you about this because music is something which is very important to me, and this issue must be resolved. Something I've been looking into lately is "the Rain Man". This is apparently the name of a demon which inspires many musical artists, and they sing about him. He rains down blessings upon them, like the Dustin Hoffman character in the film of the same name, who is used for profit, and may be the devil himself.
I'm still going on! You spoke of "secular music", and the devil does indeed use his power over what is popular with the world, but he already has the world - surely his favourite target is religion; that is where his sneakiness is most effective. Have you ever considered that he is using Christian music as well - that nothing is safe? Rather, we should be aware of his tricks, that we can overcome them, and trust NOTHING this world produces!
by reading here, I can see that so many of us allow the well known legalism and religious spirits to take control.we use scriptures from the Holy Bible to justify our despicable actions.
1 question: DO OUR ACTIONS MAKE PROUD G-D OF US? answer this please...
Romans 15 v5 - 6: May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Demons are going into the rock albums and putting spells on us? LOL. What is this- the Dark Ages? Religion should never be devoid of common sense, this is how fanaticism gets control of minds.
perhaps it's not just lyrics but also the vibration of the music itself. i am a huge music lover but in the last decade i've been much more careful about what lyrics i sing along with and also what the "vibe" of the music is - some music makes me anxious or generally upset feeling (or angry) even when i don't know the words (or when it's an instrumental).
thanks for the interesting vid :)
may God continue to bless you in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
Or let's listen to what God says about it. Ecclesiastes 7:18...
"It is good that thou shouldest take hold of this; yea, also from that withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all."
"We must walk a fine line between faith and secular life."
Which reminded me of a great quote that all of us who attended a Christian convention remembered, from a boring preacher who said nothing else of interest, but said one single line that woke all of us up...
"Living the Christian life is like ridgewalking between the steep slopes of license and legalism."
You must find a balance in all things. Extremes will make you fall into error!
I think it is awesome that you are using the actual scripture for this message!! It really doesn't matter how we justify our ways or what we think about this subject...it matters what God thinks, and we know this by His Living Word! How are we missing this simple point? We are not perfect but we are supposed to be perfected by Him...we cannot do that if we become distracted in our comfortable ways and mindsets. Forget about opinions and get into the Word!!
ya, touchy subject. i go by stuff on an individual basis-- i go by the spirit emanating from the piece or i flip the channel (in the car), cuz my local 'christian' stations are polar opposites... the one that sounds like death metal --i don't care what they are saying that's about Jesus... the music is just 'dark' to me. is God's hand too far to inspire unbelievers? naw. one morning I woke up to the song 'rocketeer' blaring IN my head... God uses everything 2 speak 2 us. Phil. 4:8
I used to take drugs and hang out with violent thieves. But though I enjoyed the drugs with them I utterly refused to be like their "worldly" ways. Though I was with the world I was seperate from the world. I set an example for them, and I showed them the freedom and joy that a man can have in Christ, living according to love. They had previously supposed Christianity was about strict rules and being miserable all the time. I hated most of their music though. :)
"And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some."
And if the world is using the internet to make videos and run websites and polls, must you also stop reaching so many people all over the world with your preaching and discussions? Is it evil or good what you are doing? According to the way you define "worldly" what you are doing IS "worldly" and you should seperate yourself from it and only do your preaching walking the streets. But the world is also walking and talking, so that too is "worldly" and forbidden!
1Co 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. i put it at minute one.. Maybe i should have spent more time on it.
@mostradicalmanever Yes. That's the one scripture you ignored and instead concentrated on the others to reach your conclusion, which you twisted to make them mean something else in opposition to it!
You yourself said God spoke to you by the numbers on a secular clock manufactured and powered by the world (and most likely also not according to God's time which is different to "worldly" time, with the hours beginning at midnight). Do you think you need to repent of this evil, or is it harmless, or even as you have claimed, BENEFICIAL to you?
You are taking things too far. In Matthew 12 for example Jesus complained about the Jews taking the strictness of the law to ridiculous extremes. It's like a shepherd refusing to help a sheep out of a pit on the Sabbath. We now have freedom; we have life and can live it to the full. We judge for ourselves what is beneficial.
Should I stop using a dictionary? Should I give up my job because the medical guidelines are written by someone who is not saved? U know we can carry everything into extreme. I know who I am in Christ....I trust Him to give me wisdom & discernment. I listen to some secular music and I God has spoken to me through it. Oops I must repent by the sounds of it!
@PenelopeA57 Are Christians supposed to be exactly like the world?
Joh 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
Enjoy gangsta rap while reading the dictionary! ha ha
Holy and separate? Got some scripture that endorses Christians being worldly?
@PenelopeA57 I realized that you may not have been kidding! Did you notice i put 1 Cor 6:12 in at the beginning of the video?
1Co 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
Is the dictionary lawful, expedient, or does it have power over you?
I think i could have spent more time on this verse. I thought the point was obvious. sorry about that.
@mostradicalmanever ...No I wasn't kidding. No, I don't believe the dictionary has power over me, nor does the medical guidelines that I am expected to follow in my job. And no, the secular music I do listen to has no power over me either. The only power over me is my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.........I rest very peaceably in that.
@TheLoonwolf using the culture to reach the lost is a good point. Paul even used GK poetry.
Do you really not get the point of Christians being holy and separate?
Please let me know how Christians can behave just like the world without worrying about holiness or repentance. That would help me tremendously. thanks...
@mostradicalmanever It depends what the world is doing. Playing football is fine. Worshipping demons and robbing banks is not fine. Listening to a good song is fine. Listening to a bad song and letting it influence your behaviour is not fine.
If the world is worshipping God, should we seperate ourselves from it and refuse to worship God?
The music with a unrighteous messages has been introduced subtly&relentlessly from the beginnings.Even the most innocuous with just a hint of sex/wrongdoing (Wake up Little Suzy-making out&sleeping at the drive-in,etc)sets up even more&more demonic messages to kids to the degree that we tolerate today."What's the harm in it" is a reasonable question but the subtlety led to what we have today. @TheLoonwolf Yes. It had to start somewhere, eh? : )
I don't know the context of the setting of this 'song'....but if we kept it at that level and quantity - not too bad.
Had to read through a lot of arguably boring verses to get to that little tidbit. The kids today get bombarded 24 / 7 with infinitely worse. (Thanks for that!)
@Blues4Winter Use 'CCLEANER' if you're having problems with Youtube videos playing, but get a little instruction on how to use it first or it can remove passwords and things you don't want it to. Get rid of 'cookies' and 'temporary internet files'. This stuff gets put on your computer and prevents you from watching certain videos and other stuff.
Thanks for posting this video!! What a blessing.. I stopped listening to secular music myself, if you see on my channel, that's primarily my testimony & how i got delivered from it.. For you fellow christians who are struggling with listening to worldly music, i challenge you to fast from it for like a month dead straight! & see if you don't look at it the same way, see if God doesn't convict you.. I encourage you don't give up!!
@NatPradoTheory Amen... a lot of people aren't convicted for a while.. but the closer we get to Jesus, we see that shedding these wordly things becomes important. It is a gradual prorgressive thing for sure.
I think you need to wear spectacles with a sign on them that glorifies God instead of those silly plain ones. What about your shirt and pants? Are they glorifying God or are they silly pointless ones? Let's follow the example of Jesus; is there any indication his clothes glorified God or did he wear silly pointless ones just like the rest of the world wears?
So I'm quite worried here that you are twisting the scriptures and making them say what you want them to say, rather than plainly listening to what they ACTUALLY say.
It seems all the quotes you give are about wicked lusts, being influenced by the ERRORS and ungodliness, sins of the world, idols and unclean things opposed to the purity of Christ - NOT neutral things, and certainly there are many, many good things we should hold onto and learn from.
Wow! Remarkable results. Maybe even Divinely appointed.
Satanic lyrics merely break my heart. I feel sorry for the songwriter.
If rock music tempts you back into a sinful lifestyle, then stay away from it, until you're STRONGER in Christ. If it doesn't represent ANY sort of temptation to you, then don't worry about it!
The WORST thing we Christians can do is become doctrinaire fear-mongers - on WHATEVER issue. I'll take an honest back-slider any day over the self-righteous phonies among us.
P.S. - Here's a question: Should women dress modestly in church?
I've been watching churchwomen push the standards of decency for years now. And I mean nearly ALL of them. Even grandmothers! Finally the unthinkable has happened: Strapless mini-dresses. The priests, dead-silent, looking out on half a congregation that's literally half-naked. What's gotten into women? I'd rebuke them from the pulpit! I don't go to church to see skin! I go to commune w/ God. What POINT are these women making?
@kicktroolinface I can go with that. There is righteous Fear. But what we too often deal in is rank fear. And that does no credit to Christ whatsoever.
Per each situation, the Spirit will help every individual discern the difference.
@MyFriendLeonard1 why listen to it if you have to ingore what its saying to do or glorify ( Rock music) the video hit hard with Bilbe verses it said be different than the world not join them and just dont let them influence you
@armoral Under the previous video I mentioned that often you can hear God breaking through secular lyrics. He's inescapable. People write about Him without knowing it.
I'm sure even you draw the line at how far you take those verses. Are you Amish? Why not? - what with those verses staring you in the face. How far do you take unworldliness? - in all good conscience. Are you a monk in a cell on an isolated cliff? It's for each individual to decide - within the will of God for that person's life.
@hiyosilver100 You should read the whole thing. I've never heard modern songs with lyrics like...
4:5 "Your breasts are like two fawns"
And I wonder exactly what stuff like this means...
2:3 "I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste."
4:12-16 "A garden inclosed is my sister... Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits."
5:2-6 "Open to me, my sister... I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had withdrawn himself."
Etc, etc!

I rose up to open to my beloved; and my hands dropped with myrrh, and my fingers with sweet smelling myrrh, upon the handles of the lock."
Hands wet and dripping with sweetness playing with keyholes and doorhandles. :)

How are you to judge what is not inspired by God?
John 1:1 "The Logos was God."
Where is the Logos not? I see him EVERYWHERE!
My studies of the Logos require that I examine every piece of music, and I have not yet found one where the Logos is not.
I will admire the wonders of this world because I see the greatness of God in all of them, and I am taught wisdom through everything.
Wearing socks does not glorify God, but I will wear socks.

@MyFriendLeonard1 The gift of Fear fills us with a sovereign respect for God,
and makes us dread nothing so much as to offend Him by Sin.
It is a fear that arises,
not from the thought of hell,
but from sentiments of reverence
and filial submission to our heavenly Father.
It is the fear that is the beginning of wisdom,
detaching us from worldly pleasures
that could in any way separate us from God.
