@leviterande . That's right; there's a big sucker above, that also gives a spin to the outgoing air. The blowers below provide the most motion for the spin of the vortex, in the same direction as the spin of the big sucker. The table on the bottom collects smoke from a smoke machine. There are little holes in the table top, where the vortex can suck the smoke out.

This is amazing, I've never thought it was possible to reproduce this phenomenon artificially.

@Ocktus Now you know :-) Try it yourself, it's fun to do! A vortex will create itself if you set up the right conditions.

so if I understand this correctly:
the top hole is the sucker and the bottom is the smoke blower?
