Seriously? The launch system is the same as used on ships, namely the Mk 141. The only difference is that the fixed ramp has been replaced with hydraulic rams. A system that has been used on dumper trucks since the twenties.

The launchers and missiles came from the recently decommissioned Peder Skram class Frigate. The conversion was done by Terma, if memory serves.

Simple, not enough ships to launch them and all the aircraft are busy.

The Royal Danish Navy took these missiles from the Peder Skram Class when they were retired and fitted them to the trucks you see in the video. Since they expected to go up against the Soviet navy it wasn't considered possible to resupply so it made sense to get as many launchers into action as possible.

@vanwahlgren they do. the US uses P-3 Orions, S-3 Viking or F-18's to shoot the Harpoon. It can even be fired underwater from a sub out of a torpedo tube. But the first time a cruise missile was used was like these ones land-based during WW2 the German V-1

The RDN originally bought the missiles and launchers for their Peder Skram Class frigates. When they decommissioned they took the launchers and fitted them on trucks, since they didn't have a suitable ship for them and the Danish F-16s weren't fitted for them.

Royal Danish Navy

The mobile Harpoon battery was constructed from parts left over when the Peder Skram class of frigattes were decommisioned. They had something like 4 shooter trucks, a couple of radar trucks and all the other support functions, all nice and mobile. The unit was supposed to support the light attack craft (with their own harpoons) or cover choke points in danish national waters. With 80 nm range, there isn't too much of inner danish water that can't be covered.
