  • Who was the drummer? he played with Jimi. Band of Gypsies. What's his name? Billy.....come on.................come on. Who played the solo?

  • why can't I solo like that

  • @PhuckHue2 You can, just turn your amp down. Ha Ha

  • 2:48

One of the best guitar solos ever!!!

    Wooooooooooooooooooo hoooooooooooooooo!!!!

  • thankz for the funky post !!!

  • Parliament/Funkadelic were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997

  • @211bill But they excluded the women in the band. :-(

  • One dislikes??????????????

  • damn good thing i got my dancin' shoes on .

  • At first i thought this was going to be the traditional song, thank God it's not!

  • no populair rockband from nowadays can beat this :P

  • Right that soaring raw edged playing that sounds like two separate guitars is the late great Eddie "Maggot Brain" Hazel in his prime! On Comin' Round The Mountain which was his last studio performance with Funkadelic, Eddie was on his Les Paul (Black Beauty) and plugged into a Gibson, Fender or Marshall amplifier that was slightly over-driven. He was known for adding a phaser and an Echoplex which were the finishing touches he used whenever he laid down studio tracks circa 1975-76.

  • @TheSparrow1976 Eddie was using a Music Man HD-130 amp with a strat and a MXR Phase 90 along with an echoplex on that track. The Music Man has a master volume that sounds about like a cross of a MXR Distortion + and a Fuzz Face. Eddie used his guitars volume knob alot to get clean to dirty tones. Eddie did use a Les Paul some (like on the 'Hardcore Jollies' title track). A Les Paul and a Strat are easily distinguished in tome imo.

  • The late great Eddie "Maggot Brain" Hazel on soaring guitar

(his last studio performance with Funkadelic),

the legendary Buddy Miles on drums, Cordell "Boogie"

Mosson holding down that perculating bassline.

All of this equates to an incendiary funk-rock jam session

with George scribbling some quickie lyrics that are partly

based on the old choral standard and partly about jammin'

    in the U.S. Funk mob!

  • aaahhhhh shit that is good old down home farm funk!

  • omg!!!!! I was seven when this came out

  • Light years ahead of they're time !

  • AT 4:33 start listening to the drummer. Back when this came out I used to put on the headphones and concentrate on the guitar, then I'd listen again and concentrate on the drums. LISTEN TO THE DRUMMER.

  • @movingex I used to do the same thing on a lot George's songs, especially this one. There was always a lot going on, it was like listen to the vocals, then guitar, then drums, then Bernie.... That's what made their music so great. There were so many people singing sometimes that you would have to listen the vocals individually.

  • I discovered this song while watching a Chili Peppers documentary (VPRO from Nederlands)... in that part they're been asked about their influences and they were watching a live clip of this song.

So funking delicious funk from the old days. Love it :D

  • @Johagorn coincidently so did i. the power of funk is incrdeible at times

  • @Johagorn that's exactly how i was brought here lmao they look so into it...like they're little kids. it's adorable and amazing.

  • @ Sparrow1976 - that is indeed eddie hazel doing the guitar work. 1) sometimes album were released using material that had been sitting on the shelves from older sessions, which explains why eddie was "a ward of the state" when this was released. 2) with this being the first release on warner brothers, they were given some of what might have been considered "B" material, even though it's outrageously funky! and most of all, 3) listen closely and you will know that can only be eddie hazel!!

  • I heard and was into the Pfunk before all of you were born. It is still baddest shit out.

  • You're wrong to think few people no who George Clinton and the Parliament Parliament Funkadelic Bootsy Collins Parlets Brides Of Funkenstein Sir Nose D'Voidoffunk Dr Funkenstien Rumpofsteelskin Mothership connection Star Child the Funkateers P Funk .... The characters are endless because they are the best Group of all times. Glory to God

  • Come on Eddie....Bring it!!!!!!! Love this jam....you got to be a true funk-a-teer to grab this jam....

  • mann! I used to jam this all the time back in the day.good post!!!

  • Hazel officially quit Funkadelic in late 1971 over financial disputes with Clinton, though Hazel contributed to the group sporadically over the next several years. The albums America Eats Its Young (1972) and Cosmic Slop (1973) featured only marginal input from Hazel. Instead, Hazel began working with The Temptations, appearing on 1990 (1973) and A Song for You (1975).

  • @TheSparrow1976

    Yeah ...I'm Hipp

  • AtlantaBwoi, that wasn't Eddie Hazel on the Hardcore Jollies Album, which is my favorite Funkadelic album dropped my senior year of high school, freshman year of college. It was off the hook and all that. Hazel was sitting in jail. That was Michael Hampton "setting it on fire" around the 4:33 mark.

  • @TheSparrow1976 On this particular track, the musicians are Eddie Hazel-Guitar Billy Cox-Bass and Buddy Miles-Drums. You can totally tell it is Eddie by his excellent rhythm playing (something Hampton somewhat lacks) and his signature Roland Space Echo

  • Wonder which idiot disliked this...

  • only funkadelic can pull this off

  • Funkadelic released Tales Of Kidd Funkadelic on Westbound and This Hardcore Jollies on Warner Bros. the same year. Plus the Parliament album they did that year. They were killin' the game during this period. Two of my favorite Funkadelic albums.

  • Nuthin Like This TODAY NUTHIN LOL

  • I had this album back in 1975, and this was my favorite cut. The guitar work rivals anything I've ever heard. Funny, but I couldn't find this on iTunes. I would have gladly paid for it, as my vinyl collection is long gone. Thank you for bringing it back for us!

  • The guitar solo is MIND_FUCKIN_BLOWING.

    And only 9000 views... ?!?!?

  • band of gypsys, eddie on guitar, george in the control booth = CLASSIC!

  • Absolutely superb. This is a funking trip.

There is some difference between this album, and the one that followed, One Nation Under A Groove.

I much prefer this vicious funk

Thank you for posting it Paul.

  • Oh baby! The funk is justa flowin' through my veins! This shit is the greatest! P-Funk for life, dedicated Funkateer right here!

  • omg rocks so effing hard!

  • I enjoy this, george clinton is great :) enjoy the groove, yeahhh

  • Damn I love that lick @2:16! Just sounds nasty and funky!

  • EDDIE HAZEL IS THE GREASTEST

  • @coolstan63 Yep Yep

  • Lots of drugs, back then

  • actually I love this entire CD, unfortunately I had to say I didn't like it just to comment on it you need to add comments for the thumbs up you think

  • Eddie Hazel on lead and Buddy (sugar bear) Miles on drums.

  • @zzrokk and Billy Cox on bass.. it is like the Band of Gypsys with Eddie haha

  • @chiknfulio *laughs*

    I hear you!

Red Hot Mama is another fav of mine where Eddie rips it up.

They have added the song into their recent concerts.

If you are an Eddie fan you must add "Cosmic Slop" and "Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On" to your CD collection.

  • @zzrokk Cosmic Slop is a great album, but features minimal work from Eddie. Honestly, I don't even think he's even on the album at all. I know he wrote Let's Make It Last, but that was Ron on guitar. The first 3 albums plus Tales of Kidd Funkadelic, although that album is named after Mike, Eddie plays some awesome stuff on it. On Butt to Butt he plays 2 basslines and awesome rhythm guitar. Standing on the Verge is one of my favorite albums of all time

  • @chiknfulio

Wow! I am impressed with your knowledge of Funkadelic.

    Ron who?

Here is a trivia question; Who is the drummer on the Chocolate City album called. "the man in the box?"

I will be going to see them next month here in Colorado.

  • @zzrokk I'm not gonna lie, I had to do some research and ask some of my P-Funk friends to get the answer and it makes me laugh now because it makes so much sense. The answer to that is Roger Linn who is the creator of the Linn Drum which is a drum machine. I can't take credit for knowing that before you asked, but thanks for bringing it to my attention haha. Ron Bykowski is who I mentioned. Him and Garry play guitar on Cosmic. Ron plays on March to the Witch's Castle

  • @chiknfulio

Jerome Brailey played the drums on "Big Footin' Music". Not the name of the song.

  • @zzrokk When did we start talking about Big Foot?

  • @chiknfulio Just trivia. I had forgotten about Ron.

  • nice post pa360!! where's "looking back at you I've lost alot, you got alot, miss you alot--I miss you"???? needs to be posted for all!

  • what are some other amazing songs by funkadelic???

  • @added23 Maggot Brain, Good To Your Earhole, Red Hot Momma, Super Stupid, Cosmic Slop, Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow.

  • awesome man thanks.

  • alice in my fantasies, no head no backstage pass, trash a gogo, get off your ass and jam, i'll bet you, cholly (funk gettin' ready to roll), lunchmeatophobia (think!..it ain't illegal yet!), i'll stay, standing on the verge of getting it on, etc, etc, etc...enjoy!

  • According to Wikipedia it's Eddie Hazel. I'm so glad I found it on here. I played this album to death when I bought it in 1979. That solo really moves me.

  • hmm thats Eddie

  • @espada06Grimmjow

You are correct! That is indeed Eddie Hazel on lead guitar.

  • i like almost anything recorded analog

    and digital? BLAH,BLAH,BLAH !!!!!

  • The guitar is genius.Michael Hampton playing Eddie Hazel-style.This solo blew my mind as a youngster.

  • sorry dud the solo was indeed micheal but the rythem structure guitar is glenn goins.

  • nice fresh tasty jam. funk to me is a marathon of zingy zesty juicy slimy psychedelic super riffs and jam combined into a damn fine bitchin song sent by god himself to be played by his children.

  • Yes! And we are all God's children (in form). Feel it in the guitar solo throughout. One of the deepest songs ever recorded...

  • Great song. Its also about cocaine.

RIDIN 2 WHITE HORSES WHEN SHE COMES!

  • I have no control from 2:49 on. My whole block as well as most of the cops, are familiar with this tune. LOL! :{D

  • @Elcerritogooze EXACTLY!

  • Buddy Miles who rolled with Jimi Hendrix on the traps worked out, on this cut! Well all of them.....

  • put a glide in your stride,

    a dip in your hip

    and come onto the muthaship

  • This is so funky I can't stand it! It's almost too funky! Fuck, this is great.

  • dammmm haven`t heard this in a very long time thanks for posting it P-FUNK UNCUT FUNK THE BOMB

  • can't say it's really well known under the people of my generation.

    it still rocks ass

  • Im glad in a way its only got a 1000 views, maybe its awful selfish of me, but i like the fact im the only one i know who loves this, that there's only a select few of us who can appreciate the beauty of these incredible sounds!

    Thanks for uploading it :)

  • I feel the same way, I only have about two friends that are into this, so listening to Funkadelic and most of the other groups I'm into is like immersing myself into another universe.

  • @paulallen360 That`s so awesome, I got no friends that listen to this kind of music... Everyone listens to the modern songs that our "celebrities" produce... So when we smoke or drink some beer, we always listen to techno music, but I always wanted to listen to this kind of music when I`m high :D Or jazz...

  • agreed. It's a shame the live version is no longer posted.

  • @xheartshapebox I totally agree with you. The less people who view this makes it better for us who knows what gems these jams are.

  • @xheartshapebox I don't think that's so much the case. I don't think it's so much that people don't appreciate this, and more that they haven't heard it. Yeah, funkadelic is famous, but most people don't know hardly any of their songs. I guarantee you if you showed it to a bunch of people, some of them would love it. I know you know people that love Hendrix. Show them funkadelic. Hazel = funky hendrix. they'll love it, trust me

  • @xheartshapebox Damn hipster!

  • @MuIdoon Damn, original!

  • @xheartshapebox

It's called elitism, most people covet things they love.

  • @xheartshapebox GREAT vid ! Eddie Hazel was so SOULFUL and RHYTHMIC ! He also had some cool melodic 'shapes' goin on . Hampton played on other tracks on this record, but Ed played on this one as well as 'Hardcore Jollies' the title track. Shider and Goins also played a fair bit on this album. I like Hazel's tracks the best though.

  • its a shame only 1000 views this shit should get at least 1 million

  • Ha, you're right, but i almost think it's a good thing that we know about this and most other people don't. But, maybe the world would be a better place....

  • This is on a certain label, so it's not going to be up long enough to get anywhere near a million hits. Enjoy it while you can.

  • @srrdmalak but if everyone listened to it it wouldnt be cool anymore

  • @TheAlmostGod888

But then the world would be cooler.

  • FUUUUNNNNKKKYYYYY!!!!

  • BEST FUNK EVER

  • eddie hazel set it on fire right around 4:33

  • funkadelic's best album

  • BRA
