The obstacles are made of wood and painted with non-toxic paint (suitable for children's toys). For more information visit Eva's Rat Agility Page - that's where I got most instructions from.
For treats you can use anything the rat likes. Pumpkin seed, sunflower seed, banana, yoghurt ...
How cute! I want to teach my rat how to do that. What kind of food do they like? I know they like eggs, grapes, sunflower seeds... but their not WILD about it.
Mine go wild for yoghurt!! You can put some on your finger and let them lick it off. its a quick, non-messy treat to give whist training!! Good luck! XXX
Oh god, no! They are not! Rats need a totally different cage and cage facilities! They need different food, different treatmeant... They ARE different! Dear, please get more informations before you get your rats!
I researched them on the internet and stuff. But what kind of cage do you need? I have a big tank that I fill up with peat moss for my gerbil to burrow in. I am guessing shavings...?
Hey! No, you can't use a filled up tank for rats. Rats maybe like to burrow sometimes, but they more like climbing! The cage must be at least 80 cm high for 2 rats. It's got to be pretty hugh! Sorry, but I can't tell you everything about keeping rats on youtube. I advise you to buy a book about pet rats or registrate in a pet rat forum, where people can help you, you know. :)
In my opinion if you get a 'freddy 2' rat cage by the makers 'Savic' you have pretty much a rat palace for two, you can buy them from 'pets at home' stores
freddys dont have wire shelves they are plastic shelves and solid ramps and imo wood holds the pee so however much u wash it it gets stinky which is just logical really ...its porous
Someone like his reward treats! :D

Personally, id say that cage is far too small for a pair of fully grown rats, unless they are out of it for 80% of the time.
I used to run a private rat rescue a few years back, and not one cage that was made specifically for the species was big enough.
I used to take parrot cages, or chinchilla cages and modify them, often joining together 2 or more cages together.
I also hate rats or any animal for that matter to have to walk on wire shelving, all mine had washable wood.

where do yuo get the equitment from?
ukayleighm 4 years ago
As I said below, it's self-made. I don't think you can buy rat agility equipment anywhere, at least not here in Germany.

beautiful rat, so what is thr training like?
pixieluvscandy 4 years ago
Deirdre was quite easy to train, she simply loved agility. She started training when she was quite young, little more than 3 months old.
