@Stormymnday you don't lock up American citizens for crimes they "have to potential" to commit. Innocent until proven guilty, trial with guilt or innocence judged by a jury of peers? Does this mean anything to you? Bill of Rights anyone?
there is a large possibility that had Japanese landed in California, a large number of Japanese americans would have aided the troop with housing, ammunition, food etc.
This was a very unfortunate situation for the Japanese living in America. As a matter of national security however, it was absolutely necessary. I too was skeptical of this situation until i did some research and discovered the events of the Ni'ihau incident. Look it up, and you may realize that it could have been a microcosm of what may have taken place on the west coast, had Japanese force landed in California.
Story in a nutshell: US Gov't has huge fear of 'outsiders', and takes action against them. Action is unjust and against the law. After it turns out they were wrong, the US Gov't apologizes and gives them money.
What was done to these American citizens, depriving them of due process, stripping them of their posessions and throwing them into camps is absolutely abhorrent. FDR is the most despicable president ever for this atrocious act.
@TheHouseOffice they did lock up italian americans and german americans. google or Wiki Crsytal City, Texas. my great grandparents/ grandparents/ uncles were interned Heart Mountain. And while their parents were in the camp, my Grandpa and his brother ,both Japanese Americans, were serving their country in the 442nd, which was relatively common.
