its a beautiful instrument so is dilruba i love both these instruments its sad you dont find many diruba artists any more its a dying instrument. its a shame this instrument will be burred in the the sands or of time.
this is from a documentary. It was at the end before the credits rolled up and thats it. Ive only edited the sound to syc with the movie and increase the quality.
I wish there was a longer vid that i could upload.
@jinsarangi But I like your version / upload better. The tempo is quite appealing. Just type in Raag Darbari, Sarangi. You get the full vedio in You Tube. You vedio has the added visual advantage of seeing the great maestro. :)
is sarangi included in with harmonium and tabla at Gurdwaras? Im Muslim Punjabi and ive only been to my local Gurdwara that only has tabla and harmonium
various precussion instruments might be used aswel, but mainly people use taba and harmonium, although i think that string instruments should be used, like the sarangi, dilruba and various other tanti saaj instruments because Guru Granth Sahib Ji is written in raags, therefore should be sung in raag with the proper instruments.
Is he playing a shudha ghandar in there? I didn't think that was part of Darbari . .. But then again, I'm probably wrong. However, this is truly amazing and I bow to ustadji. Kyabatai!
Sorry, but what's the note he's playing around seconds 8-11? That sure sounds like a shudha ghandar. In darbari, isn't it a komal ghandar? That's like one of the most important parts of the raga . . . But I can't wait foe the whole vid! Look forward to it.
it has such an emotional depth and a kind of chamber orchestral sound. Amazing... thank's jinsarangi. (P.S.: You mention a documentary. Is it on DVD or was it broadcasted on TV?)
PLs tell me is it true that Sarangi is th etoughest of all the instruments to play , as You have to press the strings in between the nails and the fingers. So people get their fingers wounded,, That makes the maestro more repectfull , as what pain he has gone through to sound this Gud.
the worlds greatest sarangi player and ustad of indian classical music. One thing is to be a player of music, which ustadji has more than occomplished. The other is to be an ustad, to which we have to look no further than his son and grandson's outstanding talents. And there are many others out there who are eating today beacuse of ustadjis teachings and blessings.
I'm surprised people report feeling sad when they hear Darbari. For me, it's the one raga that can always clean my mind of all junk, strip away emotions, silence my thoughts.
Simply beautiful....such a soulful instrument. Can't wait to get mine next month.I have read it's the hardest stringed instrument to play....can't wait to try it.

that my friend is a shudh re not gandhar.
As you said darbari has komal ga, hence why ustadji doesnt play the shudh ga.
