LOL, I leased the Bonnieview for the last two years. Alot of those whitetail that were hamping your hunt got eaten. Good video. Shane is a very good buddy of mine.
More power to ya, brother. I have done my share of stalking, and will continue to do so. But on these TX ranches, this is how they hunt, and while it's a lot different from the kind of hunting many people do, it's still a kick in the pants. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.
Are you inviting me to a hunt? I'd love to get to AK, but it's been outside of my budget so far. Not real sure I'd get a lot of pleasure out of whacking a moose (an antlered cow), but would love to get after the caribou.
As far as this Texas hunt, nobody claimed we were roughing it. It's just fun.
By the way, the animals on this hunt were NOT fenced in. There are huge herds of free-ranging axis deer all over the state. Saw more of them killed on the road in TX than whitetails.
wow hunting over feeders and fenced in semi-wild animals, musta been hell. Why dont you come to AK which is almost 3 times the size of TX and hunt the biggest deer on the continent. Plus have a chance encounter with a pissed off ball of hell that weighs 1200 lbs and has 6" claws and doesnt know what a fence is?
yea i wish i could come to AK and hunt with u i wouldnt mind shooting one of those big pissed off balls of hell... and i agree that hunting over those feeders for deer that just got let out of the pen for the day must have been a real challenge
What did you pay for the hunt.I know the place we went to charged $2500 for Black Buck & Axis $3500 for Oryx $5000 for Elk $750 for pigs. And it was hunted over bait & fenced in so everytime the feders went off you had 25 Whitetail deer eating all around, plenty of pigs.
Lipscomb, there were more whitetails there than I've ever seen in my life. I tried stalking the axis at one point, but every time I turned around I got busted by whitetails again. You couldn't walk five steps without bumping into them.
That's one way they hunt in Texas. Usually it's a matter of driving the property to find the one you want to shoot, then getting out to make the stalk and shot.
Personally, I'd prefer to hike the countryside, but the landowner did not want us out there on foot, disturbing the restof the animals. When you're a guest on one man's land, you hunt the way they ask you to.
damn man. well i shot my first axis this year, 5/4/08 dropped it right at the feeder. its getting mounted right now and i cant wait for it to come in! you were in uvalde, i was at a friend of mine's ranch in leakey bout 30min north of yall
It's been a good couple of years for me, that's for sure.
Axis is probably the best venison you'll ever taste. In texture, it's a lot more like a beef tenderloin, and the flavor is really mild and quite different from other deer or elk.
The blackbuck is pretty tasty also. I expected it to be more like goat, but it was really mild with none of that odd aftertaste I get from goat. Last year's buck wasn't quite so tender, but the doe this year should be good.
Whoa! you've been everywhere from Tejon ranch,Colorado, & now Texas. The month of March has been good to you, Huh? Just curious? How does axis deer meat taste like?
ive hunted at braketville before right by uvalde and best place to hunt. just awsome plac.e
