The only knife review I've seen with philosophy in it! I completely agree, kindness to our fellow brothers is very important. The 14th Dalai Lama said "This is my philosophy. No need for temples. No need for complicated philosophy. The philosophy is kindness..." I have that on a poster-thingy hanging on my wall...btw, one of the best knife reviews I've seen on the internet as of yet, definitely gonna have to get my hands on both hissatsus (though I think this one may be my EDC utility folder)...
I have a question about the knife. Is it possible to tighten the tention screw from its normal position so that the knife springs out faster and with more power? And ofc, could there be any theoretical improvements, like if you're in a self defence position, a faster springing knife could mean alot to the ending.
@spartan021595 That is the reason I decided not to buy this knife. I have heard by more than one person that this knife is hard to open like my Kershaw Salvo. Be careful, you will tear a thumbstub size hole in you thumb if you deploy it like you would in an emergency.
Guys, there is no one "traditional" tanto shape. Different smiths made them in different styles, depending on the era, the smith's own experience, and the desires of the person commissioning the work. Kinda like today.
@cutlerylover I don't know if anyone could say what shape came first. There are examples of tantos made by the same smith with different shapes, and there were thousands of smiths working over centuries...
Actually the traditional japanese tanto has a smooth curve not a secondary tip. The hissatsu is closer than the recon but not in the traditional style.
I have carried this knife almost exclusively since February 2010. It is by far my favorite folding knife. Great deployment, solid lockup, and a super sharp point and edge. I would buy another one in a heartbeat.
do somthing nice and dont brag about it, dont tell everybody about it. i like that way of thinking but come on. i think you understand a cuple of thousend viewers is gonna watch this. and hearing you telling (wont say bragging) about it. so never say never. still like youre vids.
Sob story.. I've always been nice to people, no one has ever shown any kindness back. It shows how today people are self centered. Yeah.. haha.. Very nice knife, starting to save up now. Could you possibly do a review on the "Ka-Bar ZK Kharon Zombie Killing Tanto Folding Knife" It's probably my favorite knife right now. Make my day if you reply hah. keep up the awesomeness.
I love the fact you can defend yourself in the us with a gun or knife (i love the 1911 but in Great Britain no chance) but over here we don't need to carry weapons because they are harder to obtain so "it's 6 of one half a dozen of another"
never had a liner lock failing or heard of it from friends but i still have...errr...trust issues with them. they just don't look really robust for me so i actually like the idea of a "lock for the lock". though i can see why people would dislike it simply because of the extra working step.
Why would I get an assisted opener vs an automatic? Well all legal issues aside, it's cheaper and just as fast. No need paying more money for the same end result.
@fidgetingfinch Are you saying that auto's are better? Cuz they each have their benefits, but its kinda hard to say all legal issues aside cuz thats basically the reason assisted knives were made. And autos are not necessarily cheaper, you might be able to get an off brand cheap one, but tell me once you find a microtech/benchmade auto for less than like 200 lol
I actually really like that knife, i might have to get it, Im a lefty so the reversible pocket clip and the symmetrical thumb disk cuts are nice. Probly would remove that auto lock thing, it'd probably be hard to close left handed with it, maybe not.
@vitopetre Check some of the Voyager or Espada knives from Cold Steel. The longest blade length i have seen from them is 7.5 inches. I believe the Jeff has a Voyager X2 which has a 6 inch blade length.
Jeff I liked Bob's review better. His was so much simpler and more entertaining. I bought this knife after Bob's review but now I'm going to sell it on ebay because of yours.
jeff i love your knife videos for this reason, if i read the stats for a blade thats not 4 inch on a flip knife i wud not have gotten it but now im going to because i aw it in perspective of like real life but you should like compare it to a deck of cards or a credit card or something just saying like so he can see!!!!
@RedZephon CRKT Stainless Drifter. $15-20. I love it as much as my $50-100 American-made knives. It's just perfect in every imaginable way. Watch Nutnfancy's review of it. It's a hell of a lot of knife at very little cost.
maybe you can consider creating one or two other accounts? And post videos accordingly. If i were only interested in your knife videos, it would be annoying to see 4 vids/day about totally random stuff pop up in my subscriptions.
I thought you were just going to let Bob do the review and skip over that lol and I went on google and typed in Black Knife CRKT and there was no such thing lol...
Well done Jeff... However when are you reviewing more of the hot sauce in that box? Jk. My only constructive criticism is that's a long time to talk about a knife. That's almost my lunch break!
What's your opinion on Coldsteel Recon 1 Tanto? I have one, the blade isn't so good, if you have time, can you do a review of it, or how to sharpening it? thanks!
Phew, I was getting worried that Bob's review would be the only review of this lovely knife. Thanks Jeff, I really don't care what videos you put out, I'm always going to watch them (although I do prefer knife vids :P). You are such a good guy.

As far as paying it forward, ive been doing good deeds every day for years, and i get nothing in return, and most people in the world are greedy selfish a holes, so i doubt im paying anything forward.

As far as paying it forward, ive been doing good deeds every day for years, and i get nothing in return, and most people in the world are greedy selfish a holes, so i doubt im paying anything forward.

Smart fella. We wanna watch a review, not a retard talking about something. If i wanted to hear that, i'd go to the nearby disabled's home.

´m no expert, but from what i know and saw in a short search (wikipedia), a "traditional japanese" tanto does not have a secondary point...
very nice review though, i like the attention to detail and your opinion on the whole lock-strength,/"folders are weak" topic.
