@Mrscupsoftea Madame Tousseaux is a famous museum with wax figures of all sorts of celebrities (like Michael Jackson instance), that's one of the big attractions in Amsterdam, which attracts a lot of tourists. And you should take a tour in the famous old city's water channals (de 'Amsterdamse Grachten') too. But there's tons of other stuff to do (also outside Amsterdam, the distances between big cities with interesting attractions aren't that big in the Netherlands). Sincerely, a dutch guy.

@dani4ever92 I have Dutch friends and I went with them to a restaurant, and they had a little table with bitterballen in a dish on it. So we sat down and I asked what they were, and my friends were like, 'Ew, I really don't like bitterballen.' So I ate all of them and it was awesome. :D

In all respect, PJ, I don't think you get to decide, as a white person, whether or not this is racist. This does not affect you. In fact, it seems like almost all cases of people dressing up as another race are whites dressing up as stereotypes of minorities. So how do you think it makes people like me feel?

I actually want to go over there, though, and see it for myself. I wonder how they would react to a black American.

- To all the people who are wondering about the people dressing up. It's part of a traditional dutch holiday called 'Sinterklaas' where your beloved 'Santa Claus' is based on. They paint their faces black because they go through the chimneys to deliver presents to children (like Santa) and get filthy from the carbon black, it has nothing to do with racism. Also, eveybody loves 'Zwarte pieten' so no damage is done. I get it's weird if you don't know this but please try to understand.

@Enypheo Well, if I'm gonna buy the whole chimney thing, then why do they wear afros and have red lips? And I'm assuming by 'everybody' you mean white people. I have seen and heard about plenty of people who don't love this practice.

You should understand that people are always trying to dress up as my race in a negative way, even if they don't mean to offend. It is still offensive. You will probably never have to experience this, but it does eat away at you. Even if it is just "tradition."

@iluvlost09 as a dutch girl, I agree with you completely. the explanation of 'zwarte piet' being a chimney sweeper is just an excuse to people who are offended. all points to the fact that he is either a slave, has been one, or is black because originally, sinterklaas was accompanied by the devil/a demon. in the times this tradition arose, black people were associated with that. imho we abolish this horrible tradition asap, along with fooling kids to keep them from misbehaving
