I remember Gilbert appearing on the likes of, 'The Two Ronnies' when I was wee, what gives? Has he got an ageing self portrait stashed in some cupboard a la Dorian Gray?? The guy does not seem to age!

I agree with rockyracoon and lpswichonian.

I heard this melody for the first time in the mid-1970's when I was not even a teenager. The music was in an "easy listening" muzak style (instrumental only) but it stuck with me and I was glad when I finally heard the song with lyrics and learned the title.

I have it on my iPod and it is among my "most listened to".

What amazes me so much is you can go to these concerts and see the old rockers and sitting up front you see teenagers - kids who were born 25 or 30 years AFTER these songs were on the charts and there they are singing alont to every word! Now that is REAL music right there. Something that has that much power to last that long is nothing but musical gold - like Gilbert O' Sullivan.
