I often grow my own food too. My neighbors think I'm crazy but I go so far as to actually take shits out on the garden and spread it around as fertilizer. Sometimes I eat the poop too (it smells scrumptious). Yeah I look pretty funny out in my front yard taking dumps everywhere.

I believe the poisoning was real (it was likely deliberate), but it's a scam in the sense that you're statistically far more likely to die in a car accident than fall ill from eating infected tomotoes. I myself fell mysteriously ill at the time with gastrointestinal distress, as coincidentally did many people I knew, but hadn't eaten tomatoes. There's more to this than tomatoes.

He's not making fun of anything. He's presenting a serious issue the tomatoes on the vine he is eating are safe by all means, but some peole will still be freaked out, and the farmers get fucked so hes trying to say its ok to eat some tomatoes or the farmers will really lose their shirts.

Rather than telling people to support the smaller farmer, if there are any more incidences (even pre-planned ones), we will end up hurting the small farm guy. I think they need to find a proven way to remove salmonella and e.coli and place this in their facility. I read somewhere that Tomatoes on the Vine (The ones you were eating) are fine. Because when farmers pick the Tomatoes off the vine it makes a small open cut on the top of the Tomato causing germs to get in if the tomato falls in something like cow crap.

Just b/c the tomatoes are infected with salmonella doesn't mean they are completely worthless those tomatoes are safe to eat once they have crossed a temperature of 140 degrees they can be made into sauce, stewed tomatoes, various other things the very opposite should happen this infection should drive the price of canned tomatoes way down because premium tomatoes can be processed into these canned goods as a result of the infection.
