only 55 max? hmm.....I run a 17ft bass boat with a merc 115 and have hit 56 tops still have to play with motor height, still cool vid tho, looks fun and maybe wave if I see ya now on Paudash
We had that boat to 52-55 GPS depending on fuel level and water conditions. We played alot with Motor height an trim tab heights. There's some MPH in motor height and trim tab adjustments. I think the RPM wandering is the carb adjustments. I compression tested that motor and it was stout (130-135 if my memory serves me right), infact it spec'd out higher then my Johnson motor of the same year.
We've had the boat and motor just one summer but it got a lot of use. No problems with the motor, it runs well but the gearshift has some play in it somewhere. The motor RPM wanders at times. I will take it apart sometime and see what I can tighten up.
