  • My Elixirs are beast better than that juicy shit

  • @mattnicholls1992 ,mate I have Formula RX's, Juicy 7's and Elixir R's... the Juicy's are by far my favourite :)

  • Thanks!

  • what the heck uncletone

  • ♫ ... I take the leech I'm bleeding me.... ♫

    Great Video!

  • Nice Pants

  • might have been mentioned before but burn those pants...

  • my codes are like a women.. every so often they bleed and dont work

  • What kind of oil I can use for my bike?

  • @MrGoodboy502 sunflower works best

  • Thx man... and nice trousers ;-)

  • Gosh I hate my juicy five whatever people says about avid

  • Great video. Thank you for posting. What is the pad spacer tool? Where can i find one?

  • @sonnetg they are little red plastic spaces shaped similar to pads. They come with new kit and bikes. If you dont have them plastic tyre levers do a similar job.

  • 11 people dont use hidraulic brake

  • Hey, great vid. How often does this need to be done? Thanks.

  • I wanna see a fight between this dork and the fat guy from the Hayes bleed video:)

  • nice pants! Great vid

  • Just serviced my Avids, awesome breaks. Great for all the wicked city riding I do, they work GREAT wet as well.

  • Can I bleed Formula Oro k24 brakes with Avid bleed kit? Thanks!

  • so what are the best avid brakes for down hill and that will not kill my budget?

  • ottimo video !! AVID the number one !!!

  • This is really good thanks. I wish you were at my house.

  • best explanation i saw, well done mate!

  • Hydraulic disc brakes are strong ? How much will cost new Avid Juicy 3 ?

    They are good ?

  • i dont have that red twisty nob on my brake lever ? does this matter i have avid juicy three brakes

  • @newton92able Avid juicy three! Are they strong brakes ?

  • @ika97extreme

i dont really know enough about brakes to be honest to know if there really good ones but they r pretty good

  • @ika97extreme go for juicy 5, 7 or better the elixirs =D

  • @newton92able No carry on like normal, only certain models have the contact knob

  • Check out some Juicys - and other SRAM products - in action with world champion Greg Minnaar at the Bikeskills channel on YouTube. Subscribing enters you to win FREE gear!

  • I use this video every time. And every time, it's like I have brand new brakes installed! This is a very non-intuitive process... but if it was, you wouldn't need this video. Just follow these steps and you'll be stopping like a pro!

  • does this way of bleeding work for the juicy 3 brakes i work in a cycle shop and a lot of the cycles come with these brakes and no disrespect to avid but the bleeding manual that comes with the bleed kit is not very clear and every set we bleed just feel soft and dont have a good bite point??

  • awesome video. Very informative and detailed. Thank you for sharing.

  • what are the best disc brakes? what about formula & hayes. what seem to be the best and most powerful on long dowhil runs without suffering heat performance issues

  • @Lunarlaserranging dumb question to ask on an SRAM channel vid

  • @Lunarlaserranging avid elixir

  • @Lunarlaserranging HopeGB - bar none avid's are far too spongy for my liking, hope are completely solid. If you can't get hope where you are shimano ones when set up right can be pretty decent.

  • @Lunarlaserranging Saint man

  • @Lunarlaserranging obviously they would say avid why would they say some other company is better than their company

  • haha sorry to be irrelevant but 1:55 to made me laugh out loud.

  • Can anyone tell me why the Avid bleeding manual tells you to go in the order of: hose, caliper, lever, while this video tells you to go caliper, hose, lever?

  • Not sure why it says that, you sure you looking at the right one? The idea of bleeding is to chase the air of out the system. Seeing as air is lighter it makes more sense to go from the caliper then up. So just do what he shows in the video.

  • sweet..please if someone can tell me ..i need to do same procedure with avid juicy 3 ??

    ??

  • @ika97extreme yes i have them

  • yeh its bassicly the same, u dont need to ajust the pad contact on the lever mostly cause juicy 3 doesnt have that function

  • ok thank you for that information...that because i need to buy one Giant STP 0 which

has avid juicy 3..so,thank you ;)))

  • Pity avid don't put a link in the manual to here, it'll explain it so much better than their manual. You can actually do this just by going to your local store and buying 2 syringes with about a 2-3mm nozzle for around 38p each, and as they're plastic they can self tap into the bleed screw threads. Saves you the £££ buying the proper avid kit.

  • are juicy 5s any good for trials?

  • Comment removed

  • @willmanhi1 recomended

  • they'll be fine. I use 3's for downhill and they work fine.

  • Bad shorts dude!!!!

  • im buying a pair (front and rear) juicy 7 or juicy carbon tomorrow do they come set up and you just install em or do you av to bleed em im buying from evans cycles btw

  • they usually come already bleeded so you just have to mount them and drive

  • thanks m8

  • Hey. I have the same brakes and when my front wheel was off I was pumping the brakes like an idiot. Now the pads are too close to get the wheel and disk back in. Does anyone know how to solve this?

  • Not a cool thing to do my friend, but no problem. Best thing to do, (if still possible, remove the pads, grip one of the pad tabs at a time with some manly pliersmove the pad to the centre of the caliper & pull out, do the same for the other. Now using a flat strong tool, (handle of a dining knife is great), put it through the caliper and push the piston back in, you may notice the other piston coming out, just keep pushing them back til they're both central. Install pads, job done!

  • Thanks petera, but now i have another problem. I managed to get the wheel back on by opening the bleeder valve on the caliper and wiggling the pads open just enough to slide the disk back in. The problem is that a couple drops of fluid came out in the process and now I can squeeze the brake lever all the way down without any braking action. Also the pads are rubbing against the disk.

Does this mean I have to bleed the whole system?

  • Okay. There a several things they tell you to do in this video that is not in the bleeding manual. I'm going to try it this way and hopefully it will work. What can cause the lever to pull all the way to the handle bars when the bike is on its back tire, hence it giving you no stopping power when you are doing an extended manual. And if I slowly pull on the brakes, the lever will go to the handle bars. I am using the juicy threes. Im so frustrated with bleeding the brakes over an over. Thanks.

  • @ishyid Air in the system is what wheeling the bike on the bike wheel shows itself as- i had this problem till i bled them, its air up in the lever reservoir, when you turn the bike upright air can get in the piston and gets pushed in to the brake line and hence your lever goes awol.

  • thanks for the vid

  • These videos are just a fraction of what makes SRAM/Avid the best in the business. You rock! Thanks so much.

  • GREAT JOB! VERY TANKS (:

  • This works perfectly, brakes are like new! However I did make an arse of it the first time, sitting squeezing the syringe when bleeding the lines wondering why the 2nd syrigne wouldn't fill and the pressure was so high...turns out I had connected one syringe to the front caliper, and the other one to the back lever. What a tit.

  • rofl :P

    easily done tho :)

  • i have a juicy seven that works fine, stops well and everything, but the lever doesnt return, and the brake rubs on the front disc.

any hlep or information would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hi freeloader, from your description I would suggest you brake lever could be to blame or you popped the piston heads out. Lubricate the pivot points (i suggest GT85) and if like myself you have caught the lever on a rock or tree, check that the lever has a free action as it could be catching on the burred. If the brake lever has been applied while the rotor (brake disc) is not in the caliper your piston heads could have popped out. You need to have your brakes checked at your local shop.

  • ja watte wa ne zever is da koop nooit avid remmen want het trekt op nix als ge toch schijfremmen wilt blijf bij shimano!!!! k werk al 5 jaar met schijfremmen in een fietsenzaak en geloof mij dit is brol

  • does any1 no how much avid juicy 3's cost??

  • Comment removed

  • around 50-60 pounds i think

  • I have juicy 7's and my brake lever got depressed when my bike was in my car and i didnt have my front wheel in. The pads are jammed really tight together so i cant fit my disc back in : ( Does anyone know what i should do? Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • Just use a screwdriver and open them up (it does take a bit of force). For next time, put a piece of cardboard in between your pads so they dont jam when your wheels are out.

  • It worked perfectly. just had to readjust them and i was good to go. anyway thanks for the tip mate

  • i think you'd just need to get them bled again.

  • i'm the least practical person in the world and after watching kermit there on the tutorial even i found it an absolute doddle.

  • i used avid juicy3 brake and here in our place bike stores and bikes shops don't have bleed kits for sale, even brake pads are always out of stocks, so i have my pads brake bonded. at first it works fine, but after many uses specially going downhill, the rotor just slide on and its very dangerous on curves.

  • The bleed kit wasn't hard for me to find, and the pads weren't either. The caliper rebuild kit was hard to find, did eventually find one though at wheat Ridge Cyclery

  • What is bleeding the breaks good for? Does it makes the breaks sharper and harder?

  • Bleeding your brakes is good if the fluid gets dirty or if the fluid is low. Gets all the air bubbles out if you do it right. You will definitely be able to tell a difference if it was necessary and if you did it right.

  • if u rebleed brakes, that means that u have to remove the air from instalation. when u feel your brakes squishy or how to say it... u have to rebleed it and remove air, and the results are sharper, harder and stronger braking ;)

  • I'm so pissed right now I had my caliper seize up on my rear brake and can't find the replacement parts anywhere. Had to order a new caliper altogether. Talking with bike shops around Denver seems that this is a common problem. Anyone else have this problem?

  • i'm doing the same thing right now.rear caliper just seized.couldn't turn the wheel.

  • Nicely done. You should get a "Golden Globe" award for this Maybe a "Golden Torx Wrench"

  • i dont use brakes

  • WaterPolo-

Me either. Brakes are for FAAAAAGS!

  • haha yeah! i mean who uses brakes. all they are is extra weight on ur bike

  • Exactly, WaterPoloBeast! Useless weight! And same with seats! Who needs 'em when a bare seatpost will do just fine! That's how you make a bike light! Screw carbon. Just chop the brakes and the seat and you're sittin' pretty.

  • yeah i do that and also take out some of my spokes to loose weight

  • WaterPolo-

Good tip! I should try that. I've been busy taking my face razor and shaving the tires to shed valuable milligrams. I also sanded off the paint. A complete waste of fat and blubber that paint was!

Plus... I took apart bottom bracket and hubs and flushed out all grease. Stupid weight. Oh, and a headset? Pointless. 100-150 humongous grams right there!

Next, I'm going to cross-drill the sprockets some more.

I keep my seat-less seatpost though cuz it's just good fun...

  • Removing the grease sounds like a good idea, now that I've fixed my rear caliper that will be my next project.

  • yeah thats some good advice. also ball bearings dont do shit. i swapped my pedals and just put plastic ones on. i don ride with tires eithers. only my deemax rims. it works great

  • I hope to god you guys are joking...

  • Brakes have saved me twice around Denver from getting crunched by a car, bad idea not to use them.

  • Very helpful video! Brakes rock now! Thanks!

  • Great & helpful video - very useful and works!

Im getting some fluid leaking out of a tiny hole on the screw on plate when pressuring the lever at 6:04 - any ideas what this problem is?

  • This is the way how to bleed disc brakes !!!

  • 0:40 sounds like an indian is saying clamp haha

  • lol xD

  • haha lol tru dat

  • haha yeah

  • Haha YEAH

  • The guys pants are CRAZY!!!

  • after watching this I feel fully confident to do this on my own. It's simple. Sure it will be tricky but it's totally doable

  • haha, sram means shame in Bosnian

  • I bled hayes stroker rydes last week, what a nightmare! Managed it in the end without a kit by setting up a resevoir with a funnel, more like a motorcycle bleed, would be was easier that way.

  • what will happon if you not bleed you brakes

  • the front of the bike may explode its a chemical thing . to be safe rub axle grease on your brake pads

  • just kidding (i felt guilty)

  • not funny

  • is want supposed to be funny lol

  • Brakes are not to 'screwed' with. If you have some sort of hyrdo system please let a bike shop handle them. This type of equipment really needs an experienced mechanic.

If you want to do this type of work yourself - visit a bike shop and ask them to walk you through it.

  • does this work with any brakes such as kona stuff brakes

  • i have kinda the same set up but mine are juicy 3 and im wounder if i need a kit for mine im thinking about getting hayes because they are way esayer to bleed

  • where dou get serenges from ca u just take the oil out and then just put some more in#

  • avid needs to rethink there design, and take a look at the hayes setup. One it is way easier to bleed hayes brakes, two you flush the entire system when doing so, and you dont need a kit. Avid you need a entire kit to bleed the system, and you bleed from the line that feeds into the hose instead of the caliper. This causes old fluid to remain in the caliper. I'm going to sell these avid brakes on ebay and just stick with hayes besides hayes has been making brakes for years they got it down!

  • Im trying to do my own brakes right now and ive watched this vid and the other vid on bleeding. Both are not descriptive enough. When ive done what they said with tieing off the lever ive had fluid come out of my lever and blown the caliper syringe off twice. So frustrating. Not simple to do at all. The AVID instruction sheet says to do the lever tie off later, not at the start. Wish this was easier than this

  • dont even worry about the lever just attach the bottom syringe push out the old fluid with the new fluid making sure you have the catch bottle attached at the top. and quickly reconnect the fittings to close off the system from air. clean everything well and install the wheel and make sure brakes work

  • I had this problem too. I found that you need to rubber band the lever after both syringes are attached, and the lever syringe is closed, while the caliper syringe is open. remove the rubber band when the caliper is finished being bled. its a pain sometimes....

  • You have to be crazy. I have Hayes Mags on my bike and just replaced them with Avid Elixirs. I never knew how good brake technology has gotten till I installed the set. This is even considering the '07 XT hydros i have on my other bike. Maybe the bleed system is a bit complicated but chances are you'll only have to do it once. Just my opinion but Hayes bleed system sucks as well. All companies really need to adopt an automotive style bleed system.

  • Is this pretty much the same thing to do for Juicy 3's? my lever doesn't have the lil red wheel pad contact adjustment. all help is highly appreciated!

  • Is this Kerbie from the old HBO show ArliSS?

  • what brake levers do you use, i think it looks like avid 7, but cant find a reseller or the avid website so i cant buy them =D.

can you give me a hint were to buy those levers (within europe) or what website avid have (if they have any)

    Thanks!

    Btw: awesome video

  • Hey man is that a wig? Where did you get your awesome shorts!?

  • this guy sounds like kermit the frog

  • Clear instruction, what more is expected? Word of warning, if you have to service the caliper in addition to bleeding and your pistons are stuck, they are a biyatch to get out. I had to use a combo of compressed air, gentle heat, anti sieze and engineering quality grips to get em out! Goggles are a no brainer if you want to see the next trail!

  • da da da, shut up mate! hayes are shit, good clear vid

  • Do these instructions apply to the Avid Elixir Cr's?

  • Yeah, the Elixirs are pretty much the same as the Juicys.

  • Yes, great video, however, note, 3 manufacturers tools required, 3 seconds to get the grub screw back in before fluid leaks over the floor, dont drop the screw, having bled the caliper follow same procedure for brake lever, dont drop the screw, no indication of time though imagine 10 minutes per side, pads, spreader, ever tried to get the caliper piston out to see whats behind, another manufacturers tool, wont tell you whats behind, just make sure your wearing those goggles.

  • Alright so this might be a dumb question but this is for when there is already liquid in the hoses right? or does it even make any difference?

  • Yes, the fluid is already in the hoses. Even if it weren't though it would still be done this way. Not a stupid question.

  • Great instructional vid.. But what the Fark is he wearing??

  • This method also works with Code. It truly is awesome, easy and clean. Love my stoppers, incredible power. Thanks Avid.

  • I have juicy 3 and i want to tune my brake can you help me?

  • This summer I bought (used)a Specialized Enduro Elite (2005) with Jucy 5.The rear brake lever went to the bottom. The nut between hose and rear caliber was dirty of dot liquid because the rear shox movement unscrawed the nut connector (between hose and caliper). So I screwed thise nut.I bled the breke (I taught with this GREAT video!).Now it is "super solid very nice".Thank you Avid

  • thanks on35shot2k but ive sorted the problem today...when i screwed the barb in the end of the hose it completely mangled the liner blocking the hose!!! so cut some off the liner and refitted everything and its just like a new 1 :)

  • safety gear for bleeding brakes?? is he serious?

  • yeah, um.. take some dot 3 or 4 brake fluid apply to a patch of skin and or a drop or two into your eye, then after a few minutes you can tell us yourself how serious he is.. O_o

  • lmao, usualy when im bleeding my brakes i dont put it in my eyes :P just kidding

  • you wanna get that shit in your eye!?

  • lol, no :)

  • Ive just got some juicy 5's fitted and bled the rear brake with no problems but having a nightmare with the front!!! when i try to bleed the caliper the shringe wont push in no matter how much pressure i apply!!! anyone else had this problem and how did you sort it?

  • have you released the clamp xD i know sounds stupid but i did that hehe...if not they might be some kind of blockage...and i think you need to also release the clamp from the lever when your bleeding the hose since you need to push the fluid from the caliper to the lever...oww yeah make sure you release the lever hehe :D

  • cool glasses

  • i kept fucking up my juicy doesn't work

  • yah it is the same thing but when you do it for the 5's just put a screw driver into the caliber and push the pistons all the way out. i have 5's too however i don't like them. this video will teach how to do it.

  • Hi

is it the same procedure for the Avid Juicy 5?

On juicy 5 there isn't small wheel red

  • lluwnji6678 - like to see you take a couple of drops of Mineral Oil in the eye and tell me you're cool still

  • Fancy pants! Lol

  • hey dude thnx so much made it SO much easy to do

    LIFE SAVER

  • Why does air not re-enter the system when the syringes are removed?

  • That was cool... the hairball is my hero *wub*

  • Nice shorts

  • he didnt want oil on hes hands... me. i dont mind it. saftey goggs are unnessasary.

  • Hello, is it the same procedure for the Avid_Juicy 5? do you know where can i find the bleed syringe on the net to be send?

  • use the med once. big ones, 50ml

  • Thank you.

  • Thanks SRAM.

  • now I can bleed

    thanks

  • thats why shimano xt use mineral oil,so you can take off the glove and glass...

  • ...and Magura too :)

  • Useful video. Thanks
