to play the same notes in the upper strings all all you have to do is add 5 frets to it D6 becomes A11 and A4 becomes E9..(D6A4 power chord=A11E9 power chord)

could just be the intonation . it may sound in tune on down the neck by the head.. and as u work your way to the body it goes wavey.. now if he tunes it up so its in tune where he is playing then it will sound out of tune down by the head . its a lose lose situation unless the intonation is right . nice lesson

Yeah, that's how I play it. A string power chords - 2 - 5, 5 -7 - 7. 10 -9, 10 - 9, 10, 5 -5, 7 -7. Repeat as desired.

The dashes and commas are my attempt at describing the rhythm of the piece...

@xXElimin8erXx all you need for a chord is atleast 2 notes, thats all. A powerchord with three notes is actually the root note, the perfect 5th and the octave. The octave is the same note as the root, so even this is only 2 different notes. The way I play this in the vid is exactly the way it was played by Iommi, except he was tuned down, but the fret numbers are all the same!

@gitbad Technically, a powerchord isn't an actual chord, but a dyad or interval, spaced in 5ths as you mentioned. Since it doesn't feature the 3rd it cannot be categorized as a chord,at least not in the traditional sense, since it is impossible to distinguish between major and minor.

Therefore a powerchord is a perfect chord, and also the most simple form of a chord. All you need for a chord is 2 or more intervals played at the same time. The more intervals you add to a chord, the more complex the chord becomes. But it all starts with 2 only notes.
