Can someone post the perkin's junk car auto commercial on youtube, with the old black lady calling and saying "and be in a hurry!" because that was the worst (best) commercial I have ever seen lol
He finally abandoned the property last week (first of October, 2009). Said he couldn't afford to install the 8 foot covered fence around the property that Code Enforcement said he had to put up to meet Code Requirements. The EPA, EPD, APD, Fulton Co. Health Dept and all the other entities have cited him for years and it's finally a fence that keeps him from operating and continuing to contaminate our community.

Unfortunately, the EPA has already fined them $25,000 in 2003 and again in 2005 for dumping oil into the stormwater drains which polluted nearby Perkerson Park Creek both years. They recovered over 200 gallons of oil from the creek. Perkins Auto Recycling continues to operate today (Feb. 2008) and still operate the business in the same manner. They are not only violating local and state regulations, but also Federal by ignoring the Federal Clean Water Act...
I would imagine they occasionally crush stolen cars that do not have titles and are possible stolen. In the Auto Recycling industry every single junk car must have a title by law! You need to send a couple of anonymous tips to local police authorities that this junk yard is accepting delivery of stolen vehicles and is crushing them. Have your local "stolen vehicle task force" audit them for titles! I guarantee you their paperwork is probably non-existent!
Oh, they definitely crush stolen cars in the middle of the night!!! Claude Perkins, owner of Perkins Auto Recycling, was arrested in 2005 for Three Counts of Auto Theft. His case is STILL pending. I talked to a Lieutenant in this Zone, and she told me they (police) have found over SEVENTY stolen vehicles on his lot in the past. For some odd reason, his cases have always "disappeared". There's something more to this than meets the eye....I just can't get any officials to do anything about it.
I was in the Auto Recycling industry for years. For my current job, I have to visit many Auto Recyclers across the U.S.A representing my company. I watched the videos and this typical for ghetto junk yards. These people are not running a professional auto recycling yard. However, if they have a state license there is nothing the state of city can really do. If you guys really hate these people, call the EPA. The EPA will fine them and shut them down for ground water pollution.
Mayor Shriley Frankly has my total disrespect. Got to wonder who is greasing her palms when she allows this sort of crap to operate inside the city limits!
What a shame. Seems like city officials don't want to get their hands dirty and actually start making changes. I wouldn't be surprised if Perkins had a "friend" in local government.
Absolutely unbelievable. I will definitely attend the License Review Board Meeting at this coming Tuesday, the 16th, at Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Avenue, 5:00 p.m. Capitol View is such a great neighborhood with the potential for so much more - if we stick together to make it happen.
