  • Hello, i also have an 883 and considering the conversion. Did you do this yourself, or have harley do it? new Jugs or did you bore out your existing ones? Price if you don't mind?

  • loud pipes save lives

  • Nice bike!

  • you ride like you just had your nails done... open her up a bit there buddy

  • Why do the Harley haters post on Harley sights. Dudes go post on rice burner pages. As for the post, I ride an iron, I'm 6'2 and it fits me fine with forward controls. A nightster cost over two grand more, and I can get a big bore kit for 600. You do the math. Ride safe my friends.

  • is this houston texas?

  • Why pay to put more power into a bike that your gonna ride like an old lady anyways. My uncle has a 98 dyna and he put in the 111 cubic inch S&S but he actually uses it. Your showing off your bike and never brought it past 3000rpms. Just seems like a waste of money to me.

  • Wheres the helmet?

  • So now it has the power of what a 650 Yamaha V-star? If only it would run as nice as one of those does now : ( If you folks ever rode bikes that ran decent, with up to date suspension and everything else you would be amazed! Once people get over this addiction to rattling tractor-like motorcycles, maybe we as a country can catch up to the rest of the worlds motorcycles?? It's sad to think that we in this great nation think that stuff like that isn't embarrassing. I for one am ashamed for us

  • @themaxrider First of all,

    bahahahahahaahahahahahahaahahahaahahahaahhahahaahhaahhahahaa!!!!!!

    Well said.

  • @themaxrider I'm not a Harley nut and I'm fine if you don't like them, but you have a factual error. I couldn't quickly find any direct dyno comparisons with a star 650, but there is one with a 950 by moto-usa from march '10. The 883 (without a 1200 conversion) produced 46.6hp@5600 and the V-Star 950 produced 44.9hp@5600. The 950 had the greater peak torque figure and had more midrange power, but if an 883 can compare to a 950, a 1200 conversion 883 is certainly well beyond a star 650 in power.

  • @UCMolosser The point of the matter is, the numbers you quoted are embarrassing for ANY bike for the money you spent on your harley! If your bike isn't producing 150+ horse these days, you are on the wrong brand! I don't ride anything under 150 and 100+lbs of torque! When you can buy bikes that compare to supercars that cost as much as a house, for less then you can buy a harley anything, well what in Gods green earth would make one choose a harley? ARE YOU NUTZ?

  • @themaxrider First, the power and torque numbers I use are dyno numbers, not crank numbers. You say, "...your Harley...," my Harley doesn't exist b/c I don't own one. The Sportster in the comparison I cited was the cheapest bike in that 4 bike comparison by about $1k ($7k in black). I assume you're talking about cruisers. Can you list the cruisers you think make 150+hp at the wheel? The only ones I'm aware of that do(did) are the Yamaha V-Max @ ~168hp and the Suzuki B-King @ ~159hp. (cont.)

  • @themaxrider (cont.) However, those aren't really cruisers. There are plenty of cruisers that produce 100+ ft*lbs of torque, but not 150+hp. On a more subjective note, if you need 150+hp to feel like you're going fast, you're doing it wrong. I assume you must ride one of the two bike I mentioned before if you only ride bikes with 150+hp and 100+ft*lbs because those are the only two I can think of right now that meet your requirements. Note: I'm only considering stock bikes.

  • @UCMolosser Ever ride a Triumph Rocket III? Torque is even a bit higher but a bit less horsepower but way more then ANY harley anything. I ride a sport touring mostly. I can't for the life of me understand the fascination with the vibrating V-twin that has the most F'd up crankshaft in the entire industry. Some care more about sound then what the bike puts out for power. Thus the loud obnoxious pipes. Nobody really cares to hear that crap anymore. Keep em quiet and ride in peace!

  • @themaxrider I have never ridden a Rocket III, but I know a bit about them and guessed that you'd mention it. 114hp and 139 ft*lbs at the wheel (w/ small variance from dyno to dyno). So even the 2.3 liter monster doesn't have 150+hp and 100+ft*lbs. The Harley V-Rod produces almost exactly the same hp, though much less torque, of course. I agree with you about excessively loud exhausts: they're disgusting. Also, I was wrong about the B-King: it doesn't quite hit the 100 ft*lbs mark @ ~93 ft*lbs.

  • @UCMolosser You aren't looking at the Rocket III Roadster. But no matter as I ride large bore sportbikes if you want to know. I used to ride cruisers but I found that the sport touring bikes are much more comfy and go like hell with NO mods whatsoever. I have nearly 70K on mine, and can tell you it took a battery so far and sparkplugs and tires. I don't get the facination with the harley bikes as there are so many other brands that are SO much better in every aspect! Test ride stuff

  • @themaxrider Those dyno numbers are for the Rocket III Roadster and match Triumph's crank claims somewhat well (146hp and 163ft*lbs). Even in the realm of sportbikes, the only ones that meet your requirement are hyperbikes: ZX-14 and Hayabusa, liter bikes don't hit the 100ft*lbs barrier. As far as sport touring bikes go, I don't know of any that meet it. The BMW K1600GT dynos@137hp and 114ft*lbs and I can't think of a more powerful sport tourer right now. You're right that they're really fast.

  • Whyndidn't you just buy a Nightster?

  • Don't short shots actually reduce power? I heard that somewhere.

  • @85justus

    No they dont

  • Those saddlebags look good. I been shopping around and looking at different styles for the Iron 883, but not many look good with that bike. Nice choice.

  • im thinking of getting a iron or a 48 .but am torn because i am 5ft 11 inches how tall are you on the iron so i can have a ideal

  • @MrRedocean1970 I'm between 6'1" and 6'2" and an Iron felt fine to me when I rode one so you should be fine.

  • Nice wheels. Ride safe dude!

  • Well I Hope you don't fall cause that hanky ain't gonna do much to Protect that Grape

  • seems very slow

  • if your 883 is a 04 or older u can bore it to a 1200 loseing 6 lbs and save a 100 bucks

  • in doing the 883 to a 1200 u should put a 1200 front sprocket or gear wat that will help with your mpg and give u more top end

  • "are you ready honey, ?" such a nice guy lol "i'm going cause and earn quake and scare small chilren, animals and old people?

  • too loud. otherwise nice. Already having tinnitus?

  • @ezmosolar if its too loud you're too old :)

  • Cool bike mate. Have you done anymore work to it since, I'm reaching a point with mine where I think its time to go to 1200 now too. feel free to see my mods on my profile. all the best.

  • I gotta tell ya.....After having to give up my beloved Fatbob I was considering going back to a VStar cruiser. But after repeatedly, and I do mean REPEATEDLY, playing this awesome clip and the great posts by "minsykkel" riding a 1200, I've decided to stick with Harley and go for a Sportster! I may take some of the usual heat dished out on Sportster riders, but a metric just can't duplicate that great sound! Thanks, Steve in Illinois.

  • You have to buy the tuner but doing a 1200 kit on a 883 is actually faster out of the hole then a stock 1200

  • Bike sounds so damn good makes you wanna slap your mama! After reading some of the other comments here, I'm leaning on doing something similar with an 883. I was gonna try for a 1200L and go with some pipes. Not so sure anymore. Great post, man. Thanks.

  • props on the blacked out engine..

  • I am really considering this 1200 conversion. I saw the improvement of torque and hp. It's something simular I am looking for.

The only thing I'd prefer is a two in one exhaust. Now I was wondering what effect the conversion has on the mpg issue ? Can you give some figures please ?

    Thanks in advance !

  • @frenzyfury1: If I remember correctly, I used to be able to go 100 miles before my gas warning light came on (the original 883). Now I can go about 80 miles before that light comes on. In addition, I don't drive it hard. I did the covershion after the first 1,000 miles.

  • @frenzyfury1 i`d save your money and put it towards a streetglide! i bought a nightster which is a 1200 ,new the 883 wouldnt be enough motor and glad i did! but i`m ready for a bigger bike thats so much more comfortable to ride!. trust me save your money for a bigger bike!!

  • @mdredskin Hey man, thanks for the advice. Did the conversion in the meantime. So far I'm not sorry I did, can't wipe the grin of my face. I realise that the sporty's are a rough ride, but I really, really love the look of the Iron and I prefer it above any other big twin.

As long as my bones can take the beating, I'll be riding a sporty.

  • I did a weisco 1200 kit on my last 883 i remember my first ride as a 1200 big smile.

I now have a nightster but would have been just as happy with an iron with the 1200 kit.

  • Damn thats loud. Bet your neighbors love you. Thinkin about gettin an Iron this spring and puttin the 1200 kit on it. I would just get a Nightster but the Iron looks better. How do you like it? Any issues?

  • @MrJtr1888 I agee about the iron looking better, but I still wanted the power of the 1200. The stage one coversion is not a stock 1200. Reagarding the noise level: If they can't see you they will be able to hear you. It is a hard thing to judge but I had a very quite Suzuki and it just seems like I was constantly being cut off by drivers that did not see me. This has not happened as much with my Harley. No issues, great bike!!!!

  • @MrJtr1888 Hey, I drive a Nightster........that hurt! Seriously though, you will love either, the blacked out look gets me a lot of second glances........but you probably picked one up by now and know this...ride safe.

  • @DHRC18 Yeah, I picked up an 09 Nightster in April with only 260 miles on it. The time and money it would have taken to make an Iron into a 1200 was not worth it. Put some V&H short shots on it. Love it big time. Be safe!

  • nice video don't worry abt all these loosers comment i doubt they even own a bike put harley beside

  • @vehlamunda4sydney Thanks, I appreciate the comment. Someone who has a level head no doubt.

  • @jamo2006 I guess I don't get the joke? Is it a style thing? "Form follows function" . Therefore if the function is correct the form is not in question. Where do you put your wallet when riding a motorcycle? Where is can fall out? Sorry but I WIN this one!!!!!

  • I hate the way those pipes look because of how much shorter they are, but the sound is just amazing. I thought of getting a nightster, but all the reviews say the iron 883 is the best lower range bike harley has so I'll probably be going for that. How much did it cost you to upgrade to the 1200 all blacked out? I must say, it looks even better than the 883 engine. It seems a lot darker and a little glossier.

  • Don't throw the bike card at me cause I do the same thing...but with a better one. And you keep replying to my "wastes of time" comments so in your logic your wasting time

  • @betty254 I posted a video on youtube so others will benefit from my experience. I had taken video footage of my stock 883 before the upgrade and after the conversion. This is my contribution for those wishing to make an informed decision regarding their own conversion aspirations. Any questions or comments outside of that scope is simply "missing the point".

  • @betty254 The NHRS 1200 kit is less than $1000 and if you have the ability to do it yourself you just saved at least 2 or 3 grand over buying a nightster. So with that extra money you can throw in a cam, exhaust, intake, programming, and heads and totally blow away a nightster that spent the same money to own a stock bike. I researched all of this before I spent my money on a new Iron and believe me when I say the Iron is the better deal especially if you have to have the black out look.

  • @zman454 I like it. zman, you made a fact based decision instead of jumping to conclusions or acting on hearsay.

  • Nice bike man, where did you get your saddlebags from?

  • @joshs74nova I got the saddle bags online from Harley Davidson

  • Ok well my first bike was the Nightster and I do all the work myself. And the insurance wouldn't be cheaper if you included all the custom parts you put on the bike in the insurance discription. Which if you don't and you go down they won't pay for shit except the stock bike

  • Still seems like a waste of time and money. Along with that bandana

  • @betty254 how ? lots of people get the iron as a first harley ... than if they feel the need for more power just convert it ... and if you can do it yourself it is cheaper ! plus you pay insurance on a less than 1000cc bike

  • @betty254 I don't know, what is the greater waste of time? To upgrade a motorcycle you like to the power and style you prefer. Or to get on youtube and post comments that add no value. Just a thought.

  • @Dlemonaid Well played sir...well played.

  • @Dlemonaid Like this one ? lol

  • you could have just got the Nightster that comes 1200 stock instead of the Iron and wasting money to make it a 1200

  • @betty254 The nighster does not come in the flat black. It close to same price with upgrade and the black Vance and Hines pipes add to the look.

  • @betty254 Alot of people don't care for the spoke wheels and gray engine on the Nighster. If you can do the work yourself you can buy the upgrade kit for about $600 on Ebay. I have seen alot of dynos with modded 883's on Youtube that make the stock 1200 look like a pile of shit. It is not a new concept for people to mod 883's , people have been doing it for a long long time.

  • couldve gotten the nightster but then you wouldnt have black engine cases.. so i get why you did it

  • @Subaro0o same idea here.. the nightster engine looks nasty in my opinion and i prefer the wheels on the Iron as well. ill get mine converted as well.. just needs more pull as the 883cc just doesnt cut it in the lower end

  • @mission100uk well check out drvtwin.com thats where i get all my parts and at the best price

  • @Subaro0o cool thanks for the info!

  • was there much of a difference in power? the blacked out 883 look is cool

  • @1oakst check out my other video on the bike. I posted the dyno results at the end.

  • anti-climatic as most of these damn 883 videos are proving to be. does sound good though

  • why the hell would you put bags on a bike that looks somthing a 60 year old hen would do

  • @ariel2atom because among other things it is transportation. I use it to commute to work when the weather permits. Sometimes the things we do is not all for show.

  • @Dlemonaid

I think the bags look good on it

besides sometimes you don't add them for looks

  • @NubsWithGuns Thank you

  • @Dlemonaid The bags look good. Besides, bags look better than wearing a backpack everywhere.

  • @26ModelTford i happen to like the backpack look hahaha

  • @Dlemonaid you mean like that cheesy bandana your wearing?

  • @mission100uk thanks for the bandana compliment. I had hoped that the main reason for posting the video, before 1200 cc and after upgrade, would provide some useful insight for anyone considering the conversion themselves.

  • @Dlemonaid fair point..i was only kidding! so tell us.. would you say it was worth it? does it pull better from start than the 883? i find the 883 sluggish on the start but ok once your over 40mph..

  • @mission100uk It is a considerable difference. I have posted another video, similar to this one. At the end is a comparison of dyno results for my upgrade in HP and Torque 73 HP & 73 ft lbs Max. I want to say it is about lower to mid 40s for the stock 883. I don't recall at what RPM though.

Check it out if you have a few moments. Unfortunately it is still me wearing that "Cheesy Bandana". LOL

  • @ariel2atom Honestly who cares what he puts on his bike. Bags no bags it is his business. The problem with the biker community is that people think it is a fucking fashion show! NO one RIDES anymore, they just stand around talking about the last billet piece they added. How can you clown a man for adding bags which probably mens he is out riding and needs the storage?

Mind you I commented about the 1200 con with my opinion but honestly make the bike what you want, you paid for it!

  • @ariel2atom you sir, are an idiot

  • What kind of tuner did you use?

  • Might i ask how much the 1200 modification ran you?

  • It has been a while now but it was about $2,000 just for the 1200 upgrade. At the time I added an alarm and Vance & Hines exhaust so the total cost was more.

  • It was about $2,000 for the 1200 upgrade alone. At the time I also added the Vance & Hines exhaust and alarm.

  • @Dlemonaid in uk brand new, cost 883 £,599.00

  • @Dlemonaid $2000 installed ? cuz parts are like 1200

  • @msufan8854 Yes, that was installed

  • @Dlemonaid The $2K price tag on the upgrade - was that the "installed" price with labor added? Did that include the "tuner kit" used by H-D to reflash the computer? I've read several articles from H-D saying "a reflash" is needed for a nominal fee but didn't say anything about a purchase of anything else to get it done. . If it's done by H-D do they just hook it up to one of their computers or do they make you buy this performance kit to do it? Thanks from a novice rider.

  • @samhobson30 If you are thinking on doing that upgrade to the Iron let me tell you not to do it. It is a complete waste of time and Money. The Iron is severely under powered like all Harley's! When I bought the Iron for my Wife I looked at the Honda Spirit, I bought the HD because she really wanted it. It is a choice we regretted every day. It is a semi-nice bike so please don't get me wrong but because it is at the bottom of the pond HD cares nothing about it. It is set up like crap!!

  • @CorruptArsenal213 The bike you are refering to is not the bike I ride. Yes, the 883 lacked the power I wanted. That is why I installed the stage one 1200 upgrade. It is now a totaly different bike. As far as cost goes, the money invested would be similar to the 1200CC sportster. I just happen to like the blacked out look of the Iron. In defense of the 883 it really is a very reasonably priced motorcycle. My wife does not ride. However, if she did, I would not want her on anything too zippy.

  • @Dlemonaid That's cool, I just think the 1200 conversion is worthless IMHO, Seeing how much price difference is between the 883 and 1200 engine you gave to wonder what the 1200 conversion really is. Also I didnt think the conversion added that much more power, very minimal at best. The 1200's only run 50-60 anyway. HD doesn't put any effort into their sportster line and it shows. Everyone I have ever seen had careless flaws of the assembly line. They could learn a thing or 2 from competitors!

  • @CorruptArsenal213 I thank you for your feedback and honest opinion.

  • Nice ride mate"Wayne from OZ

  • Are you ready honey ? Lets rock and roll ha ha !! Great bike - shame about the hairnet !!

  • how many miles can you put on a Harley? like 150,000 or more? never seen a bike over 50,000 but it was a ricer. I am thinking about buying one. I driven one before and it was a lot of fun.

  • Just got a Street Bob and looking for saddlebags...do you have the part number?

  • Damn that's nice! But again, what's with all these Irons that still have the fork reflectors on!? C'mon...get those things off and really make that bike look as nasty as it sounds!

  • All the mods on this bike are killer. Nicely done! But geezus...what's with the reflectors on the front forks!? Get those things off there!!!

  • @4842871966 good observation, I think I will remove them.

  • Could you please tell me what Saddlebags these are? Thanks

  • @tarasovic It was from Harley

  • @tarasovic I got them from Harley online

  • @tarasovic They look like the throw over saddle bags also my favorite ones

  • I never did like the sportster, Runt of the litter.

  • Nice!!!!

  • Hi man,

could you please confirm me the part number of conversion kit?

I guess it is 29784-07 by Screamin Eagle and made specifically for Iron XL883N

    Thanks and ride safe

  • What kit did you use to get it to a 1200 and how much did it cost if you don't mind me asking. I just got an Iron and I'm starting to do the research to get it up to a 1200. Thanks a lot

  • That blacked out look is awsome, great sound!

  • Thanks

  • With a bike like that he is cheating on you.

  • what kind of bags are those?

  • how can he show the sound difference throught the rev range with out giving you a demo genius? to OP sound sweet as man big improvement, how does she go?

  • @yippe goes great

  • I currently have an 883 stock and Ive been looking for exactly what you have on your bike minus the bags. How much does the engine upgrade alone cost? Do you trade in your engine to the dealer and they give u a 1200? or do you buy the 1200 and keep the 883 as well? Id like to add some more power to my bike this spring. Its either that or buy a V rod muscle, those bikes are godly too.

  • That's a good bike to have when zombies attack! But then you would also need a shotgun.

  • Hey Dlemonaid, how do you like the Iron with the 1200 kit? I am about to buy a HD and I need help deciding between the Iron and the Nighster. Now that you've had the Iron for a while, and upgraded, what would you suggest?

  • ready honey, that is so 883!

  • i really dig the Iron.Thinking of trading my bmw r1100r for it.Should I? head says don't but heart...

  • I am partial to the Iron. However, if you are going from a 1100 cc to 883 you may be disappointed unless you plan on including the 1200 upgrade for the Iron.

  • @Dlemonaid or he can just get a nightster with a 1200 already in it with a warranty.

  • @aussybum DONTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT TRADE!!!!! Harley has horrible warranties and take it from me, they are overpriced and will NOT help you if something goes wrong. Ive had my iron for about a year now and they suck. 2 bad batteries, a faulty alarm system, and they still cant figure it out on a NEW BIKE...wtf. Dont buy harley go to Kawasaki and get a vulcan and just customize it. You get alot more bang for your buck!

  • bad ass!!

  • Dlemonaid, What sort of power increase have you gotten from the conversion and how different is the ride with the extra cc? Do you notice any difference when riding on the highway/motorway ?

  • I have another video you may want to check out. At the end is the Dyno tune results. They are a little blurry but if you pause the video you can see them. This was a much better ride on the highway after the upgrade. Just more reserve power.

  • you ve heard this helmet ......but not this get foward controls

  • i like the look of forward controls but my back wont let me ride long sitting on my tail bone i can't lean back in the the seat i have to sit more upright so his setup would work fine for me my last bike came with forward controls but i could not ride more then 40 miles at a time and i had to take a brake

  • this exhaust sounds fantastic ! :o

  • crazy beautiful bike u have their mate

  • ok, fair call about the saddle bags...im keepin my bike as mat black as possible.

$3500 on conversion...wholey shit...not cheap, but quality never is.....by the way sounds fuckin tuff

  • nice bike but for gods sake...loose those ugly saddle bags mate

also who did ur conversion and how much did it cost? what type of kit did u use?

  • HD did the conversion. The total cost with alarm, intake, stage one 1200 kit, dyno tune and Vance & Hines was just over $3,500....

  • I like the bags because they cover the chrome shocks

  • did the bandana come with the bike?

  • Does HD offer all black cylinders and heads for the 1200 sporty now? What are the part numbers? I've been putting off a 1200 kit for my iron cause I don't want black highlighted cylinders.

  • I believe that HD still has the same lineup for 2010 the sporster. I have three helmets from 1/2, 3/4 to full.

  • Helmets save lives yo.

  • That bike looks tuff , bloody awesome i love it wish i had of bought one instead of the 08 sportster , and i wish we could ride in Australia without a helmet , if only ha ha, great bike

  • awesome sound ;]

  • Love this bike!!

I plan on getting the iron and doing the same mods. I bet it pulls hard now.

    Ride safe

  • For sure, it was a different bike after the modifacation

  • yo love the bike , i crashed a 1200r 2005 , the insurance will pay

there are no more r with carbs , i think ill get the iron and upgrade it like you to a 1200, did you have any issues with the injection system?

    is it stock ?

    peace

  • Good looking bike. I'm getting mine next week. Will probably do the 1200 conversion when the time is right, but I'll right it stock for a season or so first. Where'd you get the saddle bags? And have you remained happy with them? Could they hold enough if you were packing for an overnight trip somewhere? Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Ride safe.

  • sweet ride bro. now i gotta do it to mine! keep ridin

  • Thanks... I am enjoying the upgrade from the stock 883.

  • what did it do? is it much faster? i want one, but i can only drop about 5k on a bike right now and was thinking about a Suzuki GSX-R 600. what do you think?

  • I believe the cost of the Suzuki will be close to the 883 Iron plus a basic 1200 conversion. Besides I prefer the Harley over the Suzuki.

  • nevermind I read all the posts

  • Insurance on the 883 is cheaper in the states. Then upgrade to 1200cc. More power than a nightster, cheaper insurance. It's the smart thing to do.

  • how much does cheap insurance on an 883 usually look like?

  • Nice! I want to put a 1200 kit in my 883. I was at the Harley shop asking about it today and the told me it would cost approx. $2,000.

  • i wonder how much that cost cause i got an 883 100th ann. and id love to get that done to mine.

  • The dealer told me that the 0-60 doesnt change from the 883 to the 1200 is that true?

  • No it is not true. I will try to find a dyno test for the 883 Iron. If everything is equal, for which it would be since you are only changing the top end, then the performance would change since the volume of the combustion chamber has changed.

  • The 1200 conversion definitely produces more grunt down low than the stock 1200 engine so overall it's a good way to go, and cheaper than buying a Nightster. According to my dealer if you add all the performance upgrades to the 883 (in Australia about $3000 worth) there is not a Big Twin on the road that can keep up with it.

  • By "all upgrades" I mean including the 1200 conversion of course.

  • Fricken' sweet Uncle Jeff!!!! Would love to see it in real life. Luv Ya!!!

  • yah why didn't you get the bike you disn't want instead of the bike you wanted?

  • Just wondering why you didn't just get the nightster instead?

  • I prefer the backened out look of the Iron.

  • Solid Iron man.

  • cool, I'll be interested in seeing/hearing about the dyno report if you don't mind sharing. Have you noticed more vibration with the 1200?
