I love your videos so much and I'm so glad you've taken the time to make them, so please keep doing it for as long as possible! I was curious who all the people are in your videos who help you harvest the grapes? Are most of them family, friends, wine club members? Just curious. Thanks again for doing these!!
Hi Dave, truely enjoyed your video, however i do have a question. How much of wine does your one acre produce ( in a good harvest) in term of the number of bottles?
Good question, which really can depend on the variety of grape. Some are very light producers and some very heavy. Generally speaking an acre of Cabernet will produce about 3 to 3.5 tons of fruit. A ton of Cabernet will produce two barrels of wine. So 6 barrels of wine for 3 tons. A barrel is about 24 cases or 300 bottles. So an acre of Cabernet should produce some where around 1800 bottles of wine a year. That would be in ideal conditions though.
Dave thanks for all the videos i really enjoy watching your videos. I planted a few vines last year and if things go well I will be planting more, still a learning process for me and your videos really help. I will be up in Napa in the coming months and will try to find your both of your "oneacres" . In the mean time I will be going to your website to order a bottle. Will I be able to buy some in stores Napa?
Happy to hear you enjoyed the videos, that was sure a fun day. What kind of vines did you plant ? It is still a learning process for me too, that is the nice part about it, you really never stop learning something new each season. It would be nice to see you when you are up this way and have a look at the Oak Knoll and Yountville acres. Almost all the wine is sold direct now, not in stores. Just let me know where you are and I will check on the shipping regs.
Hey Dave Love your video's and knowledge. I work for a winery and vineyard in PA. When will you be doing more video's? It has been interesting to see the laying out of your Yountville AVA location. Thanks and GOD Bless!!
Thanks very much for you message. I was just working on another Yountville video a couple of days ago, the one on grafting. i just went through and took all the cuttings from the Oak Knoll vineyard and got them over to the nursery and put them into cold storage for a few weeks. Around the 1st week of January I will film the actual grafting process. I am also about to start another Yountville video on the irrigation installation.
Great videos. Thoroughly enjoyed every one of them. I have just a few dozen young plants of my own here in the UK. Most of them I've grown from cuttings taken from three original vines I purchased about ten years ago. It's pretty much touch and go with regard the quality of fruit due to my location but I'm eagerly awaiting your video on grafting. A quick question.. is it acceptable to grow vines from cuttings and can I expect them to produce fruit?
Great shooting. Don't agree with previous "brucegoren" as he does not obviously see that this piece is based on highlights with natural sound. However, great and educational bit on your harvest.
Pretty pictures, the clips got ahead of the narrative, leaving more questions than answers. Need to mention the variety of grape and the type of wine this would become, not every viewer will have seen every episode. Even just a lower third font. Add voice-overs to explain details of the harvest operation early on, as it is you have to watch the entire 10 minute piece to figure out what is happening in the first 2 minutes. More details about the root stock propagation & bud grafting plan please!
Thanks very much for watching. You mentioned you would like to see some more on the root stock propagation and bud grafting. In a few months when the vines go dormant at the Oak Knoll acre, I am going to be taking cuttings from those vines to graft for the Yountville Acre. I will try to show the process in as much detail as I can. I thought I could show the bench grafting at the nursery, and as the vines start to grow in the green house. Should have that video ready about Feb.

Looks like a nice harvest! Good luck with the fermentation...
Its been a crazy year for weather all around... The east coast has had a challenging growing season too.
Cheers!
