  • you just didnt get it

  • If you don't like this album you're a fucking idiot.

  • repeat?

    you're both idiots.

Also the cop-out of 'objectivity' is bullshit. musical journalism is never objective, is always based entirely out of opinion and bias. If music was eligible to be placed into categories of objectivity and subjectivity then what would be the point of not only journalism and criticism but music itself.

Your made-up fantasy anecdote was dull and an attempt to sound interesting.

    woohwooh?

  • You guys are great! Thx for the review. YFOC is the album that finally convinced me of The Fall's brilliance. It took me some time to get into them but a friend of mine who is a big fan, kept posting tunes & albums on another site and YFOC got through to me. So yea I really love it.

I can see your points and why you wouldn't care for it though,. I think it's really great that you reviewed Hex Enduction Hour in an effort to try to understand Mark E. Smith's music & liked that considerably more!

  • check out sparta fc....the theme song for britsih soccer tv.......u guys are too young and its not ur generation

  • mes is a tone deaf, anti-establishment, nihilist, abstract, poetic, genuis.......The Fall is John Peel's favorite band of all time

  • i wanna download this album again in downloadmusic .im

  • Good review! I love the Fall and think that YFOC is one of their best recent albums but loved the fact you listened to it again and again but just ended up hating it more! Will definitely check out some more of your reviews based on this one. Love your style. Would be really interested hearing your review of Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti's 'Before Today' album.. Good luck

  • @scalagreen20 "Before Today" wasn't one of our favorites, but we recently posted a review of The Fall's "Hex Enduction Hour." I'd definitely recommend watching that one. Thanks for the comment!

  • I am a big fall fan and I'll admit that the first time I heard them I hated them, but somehow I kept being drawn back to this one song (I Wake Up In The City), and I ultimately ended up loving it, which is weird cos I;ve never had that experience with any other music. sure, stuff has grown on me but I;ve never gone from hatred to love before. i may disagree with your review, but I think its a bit pathetic that others who disagree with u post on here insulting what you guys look like etc

  • @dannycheesums We greatly appreciate both of your comments, and, like you so aptly distinguished, these are the comments that are well worth responding to!

I'd like to start by saying that we don't dislike The Fall as a band, merely this album. It doesn't necessarily reflect our feelings on their entire discography. Right now, we're listening to Hex Enduction Hour to review in our next set.

  • @dannycheesums I'm sure you're right about the nuggets that you won't find on first listen, and unfortunately one restriction of what we do is that we don't always have the time to pay attention to albums that may require more time. We're definitely guilty but also victims to that. I don't think we would have liked this album too much more, but maybe a bit. We try to give each album a minimum of three listens before we review. This one may have required more, but we did our best.

  • @dannycheesums Thanks for being constructive and taking the time to chat!

  • @dannycheesums Your comment rocks. Thanks! Right now we are reviewing Hex Enduction Hour and liking it SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER than YFOC.

  • @velocitiesinmusic thanks for replying to my comments lads - I hope u prefer Hex. I personally think the best intro to the Fall is via their career-spanning best of album "50,000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong" and maybe some of the stuff on the Peel sessions set. Unfortunately youtube only allows 300-odd characters for comments, and theres more I want to discuss about your review, so perhaps over the weekend Ill do a video reply to you guys!

  • the whole point is that it sounds like a drunk with a microphone spouting off gibberish. some of the greatest art doesn't necessarily have a meaning that you can immediately identify, and with fall songs you have to read your own into it. every time you come back to a fall track you always notice something you didn't before. it may seem repetitive to you, but micro-listening will reveal nuggets you may not have noticed. Theyre pretty well respected by music critics and im saddened u guys dont

  • what the fuck does the colin hanks looking motherfucker have to say about anything

  • @streetballerv310 More than you have to say about anything apparently. Educate yourself and come at us with a real contribution next time, rookie.

  • In my opinion, Perverted By Language is the best Fall album. It is deathly, propulsive, hypnotic, sinister, lazy, and riddled with mistakes. It is a god damn international treasure. Oh yeah and check out This Nation's Saving Grace and Dragnet and Slates and The Wonderful and Frightening World of The Fall and Extricate and The Real New Fall LP.

  • @spidamantruck We just put Hex Enduction Hour on our next schedule. We are pumped to lay down our thoughts on some of the Fall's back catalog.

  • are there any fall albums you guys do like?

it makes sense though that a couple of kids like you wouldn't get john peel's favourite band. you do know who he is, right?

  • @georgemacewan I personally enjoy Hex Enduction Hour and Grotesque (After The Gramme). Yes, we know who John Peel is, we've listened to some of The Fall's Peel Session recordings. Thanks for realizing that just because we didn't like this album doesn't mean we dislike the entire band!

  • And you can ofcourse, anytime when you want to, dismiss Sweden as a fairytalecountry who don't really get it ;). Even i'm on his side in this case ( i for example think repetition is one of the most underrated things in music) , I admire your passion! Keep up the good work/ Sweden.

  • @EskilIsDaShit Thanks for the info! Unfortenately it seems that our negative reviews are the only ones that get any press but I guess we have to take what we can get starting out. We can't love every album and certaintly weren't feeling Your Future Our Clutter. Hopefully we can find some great albums in the Falls' back catalog to enjoy. Also, Sweeden is well liked around here and we certainly appreciate that fan segment.

  • Guys! The man who is considered to be probably the most seminal and powerfull music journalist in Sweden have just mention you in his blog. Sad to say though, it contans of a link to this review and a text that says "Another universal post based on two american geeks who don't really get it". You should probably take it as something good though, at least you message is going out.

  • Ah, I totally disagree with you lads.

Doesn't matter, everybody has to have an opinion for anything.

  • @costas2by4 Understandable. We are excited to explore some of the Fall's previous albums. Any recommendations? Thanks for commenting.

  • Mark should use this.

  • Mark should use this.

  • Ah, bless. It's an acquired taste, but well worth acquiring. I don't think I'd like it if I hadn't seen the current lineup live -- that hypnotic repetition of the groove is everything.

Where do you boys stand on Cap'n Beefheart? I see parallels.

  • @ukslim We both LOVE Captain Beefheart. I bet live these guys are incredible!

  • You've hit the big time boys!

  • woah damn yall literally know literally nothing about music and also the guy on the right looks like he's autistic

  • @p3on Actually, we know literally a lot about music. Where did you get that ridiculous notion from? Just because we disagree with you?

  • @velocitiesinmusic you're like 17 and you think the fall is the epitome of anticommercial music

  • "Moving music critique forward", hahahaha.

  • @boess hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaha

  • @velocitiesinmusic well it's great to see that you see the irony in that statement!

  • Lol. These spotty herberts are unlikely to have the lengthy and complex career in music that The Fall have had. Why bother lads?

  • I love this album AND this review. Keep at it boys! The Fall is something dear to me but I know they're not for everyone, even those with otherwise-impressive tastes ;)

My 3 favourite tracks, for what it's worth, are Mexico Wax Solvent (the way the keyboards and guitars build up to this luminous mass of sound...ah man), Chino (so dark and menacing, those guitars like banshees) and above all the staggering Weather Report 2 which the first time I heard it made my jaw drop with awed disbelief :)

  • @Haberdager Thank you for agreeing to disagree! We definitely have nothing against The Fall as a band, we just didn't particularly enjoy this album. I like they're old stuff a lot better.

Thanks for the comment and also for not completely dismissing us just because we disagree on one album!

  • @Haberdager Thanks for the support! We just weren't feeling this one. Have you listened to the new Swans album? We reviewed it recently and both loved it. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it if you've given it a listen or two.

  • These cunts.

  • Dickheads.

  • @1.26. They dig repetition :)

  • this review is kinda like a track off YFOC: it's just the same riff over and over and over again for almost 7 minutes

  • @lpoursoi Touche'

  • I think your views on The Fall are perfectly understandable - especially if you're not that familiar with them. I have a love/hate relationship with M.E.S and think there are as many unlistenable Fall tracks as great ones. For me though, YFOC is one of their best (and most accessible) albums in years.

  • @bluefinger43 Thanks for understanding-- we've actually listened to some of their older stuff that we like a lot better, but I know that The Fall has been around for a long time and their sound has evolved greatly. I definitely agree with you that they seem to switch things up track to track as much as they do album by album.

    Thanks for the comment!

  • The thing with the Fall is - repetition is kind of the point. It's true the players he has now are rarely around for long enough to develop the telepathy needed to create repetition that's hypnotic & has a sense of build to it. These days (like on this album) songs tend to arrive & then depart 4 mins later without having gone anywhere, though for seasoned fans there's still some cool stuff.

For a better recent example of their schtick, search 'fall peel blindness', 1st result, see what u think

  • @simonsomatic That song is pretty damn good, I gotta say! I like that the groove actually builds and creates some tension, with instruments dropping out and coming back in with even more intensity. Mark E. Smith still sounds like a rambling drunk, but somehow it fits a little better.

Thanks a lot for that link, that's what we were wanting a lot more of out of this album.

  • @velocitiesinmusic Glad to be of service!

  • Anyone in a Beatles t-shirt is unfit to review anything.

  • You guys should listen to Repetition by the Fall: Cos we dig Cos we dig We dig We dig repetition We dig repetition We've repetition in the music And we're never going to lose it. All you daughters and sons who are sick of fancy music We dig repetition Repetition on the drums and we're never going to lose it. This is the three R's The three R's: Repetition, Repetition, Repetition

  • hehe you know The Fall have a song called Over Over? x

  • Comment removed

  • @closerzero Haha, we're not trying to convince anyone that they shouldn't like The Fall. We're just two guys giving our opinions, nothing more. Thanks for watching!

  • Thought about applying for a job at the NME? We'd love to have you on board!! Brilliant review boys!

  • @josefsilacek Thanks, that would be awesome!

  • Mark E Smith would probably love this review.

    Great album btw..

  • Dweebs or geeks ???

  • 'tell us what you think...' not sure where to start. stick to your coldplay bed-wetting music, boys. or maybe listen to the album more than once. it's, like, got hidden depths and stuff...but you won't hear that over the sound of your own whining.

  • As for the albums, Hex and Grotesque are the two that are most critically acclaimed. YFOC has been splitting votes - it's what you might call a marmite album. Some fans love it, some hate it.

Of course in the real world, no one cares about The Fall. I think it's awesome you are reviewing them in the first place.

  • Oh this is it - I have English humour and I know sometimes it can be lost in translation, but yes, I was being completely honest. I think you make a good balance with Jake being more passionate and Tom being more thoughtful. In the past, I've made short films and I know how hard it is to get anybody to do anything right on screen, let alone talk off the cuff for seven minutes, and that's impressive.

I think your point about Justin Bieber being at opposite extreme ends is a very well made one.

  • Oh, I've made it so the posts are in reverse order, so read the last one first.

    Take care now.

  • @graeme10000 Thanks for the comments! To be completely honest, I can't tell if you're being slightly sarcastic or not (it's so hard to pick up on those things in text), but either way we really appreciate you getting involved and giving us your input.

I would love to review Hex Enduction Hour-- I've listened to that one and Grotesque (After The Gramme) a bit, and I like both of those a lot more than this one.

Could you tell us a bit more about how this album compares with their other stuff?

  • Don't worry if you don't get The Fall. Not many people did or do. Maybe sometime in the future it'll all make sense. The main thing is that, as a Fall fan, I loved your review.

Please please please review Hex Enduction Hour.

[these are possibly the only three comments I'll ever make on Youtube, but I just had to show some respect to your awesome video]

  • As for what you're missing...er...good question. In the nine of tracks of Your Future Our Clutter, the first six tracks are exactly the same, the next track does something different by actually having a bit of a melody, but with the next track its back to the tuneless stuff, and then for a finale they threaten to play something nice before everybody gives up and the album finishes with four minutes of random noises for no reason.

    It's their masterpiece.

  • Hi, you guys are brilliant. This is the best review I have ever heard of a Fall album. The first three minutes is especially impressive. Not only is what you say interesting, but the way you say it is cool, and funny also. I laughed more times in that three minutes than entire Hollywood movies. The whole piece is great though, I think you really put together a coherent, well argued position.

    I've got 87 Fall albums.
