  • Funny thing is we didn't even see the interviews ask anything in this video. XD

  • Whats with the afro comment below the video. Johnny just didn't like way it wasn't studied prior to the interview. It was an intelligent end.

  • I showed this to my mother and she said, "Hey, it's Julian Assange! I didn't know he was in a band during the '70s!" I had to explain that the guy she was referring to is Keith Levene.

  • Sweet! That's just the kind of interview I would give!

  • I love it too. I don't care what ppl think about me or what I've done for no money.. I'm same in a sense that I don't give a F

  • wow

  • Funny in retrospect that people couldn't see that it was an act.

  • There needs to be more people like this...

  • HOLY SHIT! THIS IS A FREAKIN' RECORD!

  • This is why I love that offensive old man :D

  • Oh wow Johnny xD stupid but still funny

  • can someone tell me the lyrics from @0:26 til @0:40 please

  • jim walker one of my fav drummers

  • classic...lol

  • The interviewer was Chris Cowie, the last producer of top of the pops.

  • what the fuck he cant sing and the other cant play

  • to be fair the music they where playing was a load of shit

  • the sex pistols are such losers... i don't understand what people like about them. they try so hard to act like they don't care about fame which ultimately gives them the image that they think they're so cool and better than others. they've claimed that they thought they would be the last rock and roll group and that they'd end it all. how egotistical is that? these guys are just wankers. plus johnny is shit singer. i don't get how they became famous and worshiped. they're skinheads with hair...

  • @queerp And now big bad johnny Rotten is on some advert for BUTTER.... Just how anti establishment is that ? He know reminds me of Rick from the young ones( may be well before your time) Give it a look...

  • @queerp Remember they were damn' young at that time... Didn't you (or someone you know...) have the dream of changing the world when you were a teenager or a young adult? They did, and they put it out as a statement for what they were doing, extreme and / or shoking. And if you did have that kind of dream, did you achieve anything on that matter? Hey, preacher, leave the kids alone and get yourself a smile... You might be no better then those guys...

  • @kuttersprodukt i'm 21, so i am young. i think these guys are extremely egotistical and could not have survived in the real world. they're just lucky they had a successful band, cos people like this go nowhere in life without a lot of luck. they are extremely rude and clearly uneducated, so i dunno why anyone would listen to them as if they have some important political statement. they're just angry young men you wanna raise hell and rock and roll.

  • @queerp if you've never been angry, you cannot understand, and you should know that after all, it's entertainment for a different class of consumers... chill out man... Rant about the faith healers, they're as money making, and they send people to death for a god no one has ever seen...

  • Its YOU that is the loser - go listen to your Offspring records and shut up. :)

  • @queerp You could be the stupidest person ever to comment on youtube. You missed what punk was about entirely - too funny! Haha retard. :)

  • @Titter88 i'm aware of what punk is about. i listen to numerous punk bands and it's not about being complete douche bags. for an example Rancid were actually pretty nice to their interviewers and they even sound pretty smart when it comes to certain things, especially Lars; however The Sex Pistols just come off as arrogant and ignorant. not every punker is an anarchist. only the uneducated punks are... these guys don't show respect to anyone. Lydon is a fucking knob! and so are you Titter88

  • @queerp If you knew what punk was about you would know that "punk" ain't about any kind of uniform way of thinking, you twat. We're all individuals, right? In an ideal world... you fucking knob.

  • @anthonyaranda you come off as an even bigger wanker than these assholes. you sound like a total wannabe. you keep making assumptions that i don't know these facts; however, I am quite aware that punk isn't about any uniform way of thinking.... i'm aware that we're all individuals, but that doesn't mean he's not a prick. there are morons from any group. there are egotistical hipsters, dickhead punks, and douche bag prep kids etc. you can find a prick anywhere, and these guys are pricks & so r u!

  • @queerp You can call me any name you want since you have no stronger argument to fall back on, you defensive angry internet twat. (See, I can call people names too.) I'm not a wannabe at all; I think that punk, and rock and pop music in general, is an outdated bunch of bullshit. Punk isn't even "punk" anymore and it hasn't been for more than 30 years. So continue your petty arguments. I'm off to do things that are productive. Enjoy your broad categorizations of people. Not popular at school, eh?

  • @anthonyaranda i think it's funny that you call me out on categorizing people and then you end it all with "not popular at school, eh?". you're such a hypocrite. you're also making the assumption that i spend my life on the internet just because i happened to get in an argument with you. i guess i have the right to assume that same thing of you. PS: I no longer go to school anymore. and when i did, i had many friends; however, I wasn't in the so called 'popular crowd' cos they're douche bags.

  • Why Idiots ever supported these WANKER I will never know

  • what question did they ask to make him say he doesn't have to explain himself?

  • Superb clip, a shame there's so little footage of PIL from this era. Is that Chris Cowey doing the interview? As he also worked on the Tube, the (vastly over-rated) show which re-transmitted the clip. Though wikipedia has him down as being born in 1961, can't believe he's 18 years old here.

  • Вот это музыканты раньше были,а сейчас боятся лишнее слово в эфире сказать

  • if only the interviewer knew one day hw would be doing butter adverts, and appear in celebrity game shows.

  • guy needs some soul glow on 01:26

  • Lydon was such a dick.

  • Greatest exit ever.

  • whats the name of the guy with the glasses?(of PIL)

  • @oldschoolvescan u mean jah wobble?

  • man the guitar sounds awful!! u know, i love jhonny but this was painful O.O

  • The attitude in the interview was unnecessary, but the music... the music was sooo good. Keith Levene could just toss out shards of sound all day and they would never get boring.

  • @briteness The attitude was necessary.. They wouldn't have the credibility and respect if they played kick arse music but spoke politely in interviews, this is a true punk band. Not afraid of expressing themselves on and off the cameras.

  • They were fantastic, were't they?

  • whats the song at the begining?

  • @MusicTheCurve Chant

  • What's the name of the song, that is played in the beggining?

  • LOL The sign in the back says Check it out, well guess PIL gave those two utter cunt reporters something to "Check out"

btw fucking amazin combo by that one bloke at the end

  • In many ways, this is song/performance way more "punk" than anything the Pistols EVER did.

  • DICKHEADS!

  • ???????????

  • BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP

  • I know he rebels, and there is no one like him because he is so fucking punk, but he doesn't need to be a fucking asshole. Not that he cares anyway.

  • The prelude to this bust up was Lydon was told that some 3rd wave of punk geordie from The Angelic Upstarts had accused him of being a sell-out. The geordie interviewer with the tache pursued this line of enquiry as though Lydon had to justify himself to a berk with a perm. This bit was missed giving the impression PIL were simply a bunch of sullen prima donna Kevin the Teenagers.

  • @flaxonx3 That's one cool bit of info, I tended to think they were being obnoxious, just for the sake of being obnoxious. Then this was totaly justified. Like to know though,if that prelude is also here on YT ?

  • epic

  • wonderinf if Sid was still alive...he would have been worse than John...

  • i rember watching this

  • id like to set lydon and simon (AI) up in a room s=and see the argument

  • That was longest bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep in the history of man at 2:10 !

  • The trouble with John Lydon is although this fuck you, brutal honestly schtick was novel and hilarious in the '70s, he never gave it up and wore it thin. It was played out years ago.

  • was this not done before on bbc?

  • Cop-outs beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep, mic smash.

  • What song is this?

  • @DoTheBartMan100 Its Chant from metal box.

  • I can't help but think Johnny Rotten is just a brat in a man's body who can't handle criticism (like the one he doesn't hesitate to dish out) and flips out at anyone who tries to give him some.

Now I'm not saying that a lot (if not most) of the interviews that the Sex Pistols had weren't BS, or that they don't deserve recognition for their work, but these guys, especially Johnny, were glorified douchebags that probably just didn't get enough parenting growing up.

  • @BigUriel i think you need to listen not really to the sex pistols, but to PIL and here what Lydon has to say in a number of his interviews, he's simply someone who doesnt take bullshit and speaks his mind. i admire him in that aspect. if more people were straight to the point like him, ppl wise, the world would be a tad bit better.

  • @BigUriel Exactly and that's what they are pointing out. The system doesn't work for everyone.

  • I want to know what was said during that loonng bleep.

  • Much as people may dislike Lydon - he's quality he's honest and he's a legend.

  • why was it so hard to find this video.

  • John says exactly what he thinks-a increasingly rare ability.

    God bless him.

  • Interviewing Johnny would be so much better than a lame ass pop star today. Johnny atleast gave real answers xD

  • "Ok, now I'm gonna ask you an intelligent question. Explain yourself, please?" KAPOW!!

  • Well......... you don't get interviews like that any more

  • wow lydon was so skinny and cynical here... now he's this happy go lucky chubby characature...

  • @aNightmaresRequiem That's amphetamine for ya.

  • Johnny rotten is a fucking nutter

  • @giles1995

Yer thats why people love him

  • You know, I think Johnny knew that what they were playing was "crap" so to say, and it only further proved his point that anyone will buy into anything popular by someone.

  • what kind of guitar is keith levene playing?

  • THis is why i like Axl Rose and Jhonny Rotten they dont take shit from anyone

  • @NunexxShadowZ well thats a fuck of a combo ha

  • @MrBuk86 Indeed

  • No Bull Shit ! know what I mean yea ;)

  • Lydon and his mates r a bunch of arrogant talentless wankers

  • That song is horrible

  • WHAT WAS THE QUESTION DAMMIT!

  • And now he's on some tacky butter ads on UK TV. Who's the cop-out now, eh Johnny??

  • 2:00 to 2:17 lol

  • what about he asked Johnny?

  • rabsmiff ---History is history. NYC is the birthplace of punk.

  • WHAT A LOAD OFF SHIT

  • that guitar... Is the Ugliest I've ever seen...

  • cockhead lol

  • Lydon telling an interviewer that his questions are a farce.......that's funny. Lydon, YOU are a farce. You self-absorbed, ego-maniacal, pretentious douchebag.....go make another fucking butter commercial, fucking asshole.

.....I would like to know what the question asked was.

  • Levine looks like the 'sensitive artist' smashed out his mind on smack..probably some truth in that assessment!

  • @lemonite1 We had REAL punk in the UK....that CBGB stuff was pop-pap!!!!!

  • @rabsmiff New York INVENTED punk. You hosers just made it a dress-up game.

  • @damianmann Blondie were a pop band, the Ramones were long-haired hippies, Talking Heads were an Avant-Garde experimental combo.

  • @lemonite1 We had REAL punk in the UK....that CBGB stuff was pop-pap!!!!!

  • @MARMARR1 Yes it was...the Pistols, the Damned had split by 1978, and the Clash turned soft.

  • john is way to smart for them meadea whores.

  • @irishgeal1 Is that really how you think media is spelled?

  • PIL were too arty-farty compared to the Pistols, but fair play to Lydon and co. for coming up with sonically different stuff than punk, which turned shit by 1979.

  • @rabsmiff I don't think punk turned to shit by 79'. X,Black Flag,Dead Kennedys,Minutemen,Bad Brains,Minor Threat,Germs,Tales of Terror and many more were just gettin' started.....

  • @lemonite1 Dead Kennedys were good, but I am in the UK, and the novelty and power of punk was definately diluted by 1979, after the truly great years of 1976-78. Maybe in the US and elsewhere, 1979 was a great year for punk, but in Britain, it was a shell of it's past glories.

  • @rabsmiff Yeah, maybe you're right. After The Clash and Pistols,The Toy Dolls probably didn't cut it. PIL didn't either.....

  • 2:08

Sounds like he replaced 'supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' with expletives.

  • In 1978 Jah Wobble broke my speakers. He owes me!

  • Johnny Rotten is so far ahead of his time, that it will take the rest of mankind at least another 100 years to catch up with him.

  • Wobble. A fucking legend

  • assholes in america are certainly less dignified than mr john butter me up lydon

  • hey, check out Pil's Metal box album before you say they are crap?

  • todays bands are such panzys!! they will sit there and let some moron ask them DUMB questions! and then they will suck up and kiss ass!! what happened to bands with attitude and opinions!! its all about making money and looking cool now

  • @Fender1976uk um, they do that because it's called showing RESPECT

  • @Fender1976uk Or you could appreciate the fact that there is enough interest in what you are doing that people ARE willing to interview you. You can always help the interviewer by giving suggestions as what to ask, give some extra info, etc.. You don't have to be surly. I think most of this is an act to get attention in order to promote the band. Otherwise, they are pretty messed up. Tony Bennett is a class act. It would be nice if more people comported themselves in a humble fashion.

  • @Fender1976uk .....well, no, its about making good music! something this cunt had no talent to produce! Good bands will always come through, shit like Keane, Coldplay and Scouting for Girls will always get the derision they so deserve!!

  • 2:10 beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!

  • nobody told the presenter that the cunt look was out of date

  • I didn't know Weird Al Yankovic was a presenter in england!

  • 2:10-2:17

The bleep to end all bleeps.

  • This is a pose primarily, an attention getting device. Not all that different than Elvis or Madonna shaking around. The Pistols were great because they sounded great, they were a raw Rock 'n' Roll band. PiL were crap, at least everything I've heard of them was. I saw it as artsy de-construction and posing. Lydon's gig is being snotty and abrasive. It's a gig, it pays his bills, but it isn't what was great about the music. Helped sell the Pistols, but they had good product. . . PiL did not.

  • @ironbuttermilk

bought the Public Image did ya? More fool on you. Its not a game of Monopoly.

  • I love him haha!

(sarcastically) Oh sorry, rude word (roll of his eyes)

  • I liked Lydon more as he got older; very bright guy, but I liked and (still do) like The Sex Pistols' music.

That thing PIL was playing was astonishingly bad. Levine (is that his name?) has no business playing a guitar on stage, really. Just awful. And they wanted to be taken SERIOUSLY? At that time, all of Lydon's interviews were non-interviews about nothing. I wouldn't have wanted to interview him; wasted time.

But over time, I have grown to really like him; very funny, bright man.

  • @5jerry1

Is the guitarist's name Levin or Wobble? It's been such a long time, and I don't like to get peoples' names wrong.

  • @5jerry1

I may have gotten the guitarist's name wrong; it is Levin or Wobble? I don;t like getting peoples' names wrong.

  • Wobble is the man.

  • Ha ha. This seemed pretty cool to me 25 years ago. Now I just cringe at Lydon doing his Widow Twankey routine. He's still doing it. Pop stars eh?

  • The song sucks ass. I don't know if I'm too bourgeois and close-minded to appreciate it or something like that. But the music sounds like complete shit. I guess its supposed to sound like shit? Is that what John Lydon wanted? What a dick.

  • @cartoonistkid001 No, you just have an opinion. It all comes down to personal taste but you're too dismissive of PiL.

  • @aaaaaaaaaajgvgjyc

Yeah because its Johnny Rotten shrieking nonsense and the guitarist playing dissonant chords and riffs that sound like the musical equivalent of the holocaust. My OPINION is that it sounds like dogshit.

  • @cartoonistkid001 This is just one of their songs, one of the weaker ones. There's nothing wrong with dissonance in avant garde music, either.

  • @cartoonistkid001 I guess it is supposed to sound shit, real punk music (I think) was meant to shy away from the shitty safe rock music. It was about being dirty, raw and really bad. Of course as aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa said, it is matter of personal opinion also. That's the issue with "modern" punk artists as in Green Day and Fall Out Boy, they try to act bad ass but they're just too safe...There's no grittyness or dirtiness.

  • @cartoonistkid001 lol! Brilliant, thanks for making me laugh, utter bollocks masquerading as art!

  • Jah Wobble is so funny

  • what year was this

  • john lydon

  • thats what i call a bad hair dew on the blond bird int it!!!!!

  • i know i should get pil i just dont it seems that always lacked something extra like some crazy industrial music whacked on top or something

  • oh sorry rude word :D:D:D

  • I find the comments on punk related videos hilarious and comical!

  • he reminds me of Keith Richards!

  • I LOVE THIS!!!cant wait to share the interveiw and YOUR commentary with my 12 year old daughter, WHO IS THE NEXT WORLDS GREATEST DRUMMER!!!

    TRUTH DESTROYS FASCISM!!!

  • that yah wobble can swear

  • can someone tell me the name of the guitar Levene is using?? I fuckin love the sound of it!

  • What's the song they're playing called? :)

  • @boozeandglory That song is called "sucking a fart out of my ass with a guitar".

  • quit all that shit about "what makes you punk, what does not" blah fucking blah, punk is just about having fun

  • I love how they drop their microphones.

  • sex pistols are idiots

  • Shoulda been called INCOMPLETE

  • gotta love johnny. :)

  • really sad.

  • cheapskate comedy interrogation act it's a joke, a farce LOL

  • low class assholes. why did i like this shit when i was a kid? is all rock n roll derived from low class assholes? maybe i should listen to classical music

  • @andywarstarforever- Low class? Fuck off snob.

  • @piemakesmelol you're right. i am a snob. and if you are "crusty" punk and don't take showers, go elsewhere please. it's bad enough that your bad attitude has ruined punk rock for the rest of us.

  • @andywarstarforever- You do realise that punk rock is all about the tearing down of labels, it was started by working class bands, punk rock doesn't exsist for you, you elitist (probably Tory) prick. Why don't you go listen to Beethoven or something, and leave the real punk rock to the real punk rockers ;)

  • @andywarstarforever- By the way just listened to your band you suck. If you really consider your band punk just fucking die. You're pop punk. Just because you shout "Death to the media" doesn't make you a revolutionary, you look ridiculous.

  • @piemakesmelol yes, my band sucks better than yours does, fer sure! however, punk is punk. i'm from a different generation than you, so punk is different for me than it is for you. i know i look ridiculous. i'm not very good looking. thank you for your hateful comments. more reasons i'll leave "real punk" (whatever that means) to kids like you who have no manners

  • @andywarstarforever- Are you serious? "Kids like you have no manners" and you're trying to call yourself a punk? Get a grip. And yes your band sucks, big time, I'm not even saying this in a mean way I'm just being honest...you come across as a loser skater pretend punk band. So really you're in no position to say what is and what isn't punk.

  • @piemakesmelol and by the way kid... my parents are working class (i.e. slaves) i'm a self made man, and went to plenty of university to escape working class hell. the reason kids like you don't escape your torturous, poverty stricken lives is because you value losers who bitch and moan about problems. maybe if you valued education, you could rise out of your lower economic bracket. then, this is where you are correct, punk won't exist anymore and you'll actually start drinking really good beer.

  • @andywarstarforever- First of all, you're not making any sense. Secondly, you're a conformist tool who needs to fuck off and get a grip....clearly lack any sort of musicial knolwedge what so ever or any real guts. I could care less if I "made it" the fact of the matter is at the end of the day, I'm not the pathetic loser taking it up the ass from authority am I?

  • @piemakesmelol i'm really not that conformist, and i sympathize with you about how zombie robots suck (compassion is still necessary). the only musical knowledge i have is what i am occasionally interested in, which isn't much. lastly, i got into music to say something, not just a bunch of nothing like Nirvana. just read one of their old interviews. Kurt says: "...even if we wanted to be politically correct, we couldn't because we're too stupid. We were just a bunch of stoners in high school."

  • @andywarstarforever- A bunch of nothing like Nirvana? Are you serious? Never heard of Smells Like Teen Spirit? the anthem for a fucking generation. You're music doesn't say anything, shouting and screming "Yeah the goverment sucks, mom and dad hate me" isn't spreading any sort of message, it's so unoriginal and cliche. Nirvana spoke to millions of people all over the world. Don't you even dare compare you're shitty pretend punk band to them.

  • @piemakesmelol so i've been reminded by Cobain once again why it's pointless to rage against the machine. because the stoners won't get it, the zombies won't get it, and basically that's why i like Buddhism and am more into GOD than rock and roll. fuck rock and roll. just buy my t-shirts already and leave me alone

  • @andywarstarforever- God? AHAHAHAHAHA. just quit talking to me, seriously, there is no God you fucking idiot. Go pray to your imaginary friend and listen to Nickelback or something you fucking reject. God...AHAHAHAHA. What a fucking fool.

  • @piemakesmelol punk rock is about encouraging people to creatively express their views in the "Anyone can/should try playing Punk Rock" ethos. D.I.Y. remember? don't matter whether you suck or not! lastly, john lydon's social anxiety is a problem, and he expresses his frustration with no manners, acting like a childish brat! still, he wanted people to think about WHY he would dislike mass media TV journalists. i like pistols/pil, but prefer punk bands that are inclusive, not exclusive haters.

  • @andywarstarforever- It does actually, not in regards to playing but just what you're saying. Anyone can PRETEND to be a punk, you're a walking testimont. Going around just saying that life is shit and the goverment are assholes is easy. It takes a real punk to purposley offend the elite, divert from the norm and cause some fucking mayhem. That's what being a punk is. Tool. It's about anarchy, total freedom of expression. Punks shouldn't have "manners".
