  • ...Richard Tee had a heavy gospel influence; which is what you seem to be emulating. Calling this funk is close but still a misnomer. We need more Tee in our lives. Good job.

  • really like these progressions :)

  • Maybe the piano smells?

  • thankyou for sharing your songs. perfection!

  • Please, tune your piano... but beautiful style and touch.

  • Wow absolutely moving, I am so impressed, sweet smooth jazz piece, I loved it....

  • Great man but thats really not a funkpiano style!

I like the way you play!

  • sounds like classical music with jazz riffs. good tho

  • very cool! thanks!

  • Really beautiful man.

  • INCREDIBLE TALENT

    KEEP PLAYING AND UPLOAD VIDEOS

    PLEASE BRO.

  • That's Deep Purple at the beginning isn't it ? Great Playing !

  • dudeee, no funk...

its just clasic jazz, but you play it awsome :)

  • funk?

  • while you have some juicy chords, and decent melodic phrases, there is no funk here...

  • wow fail

  • no funk there, bitch!

  • you're a great musician, but no one fucking cares that you're 18. just drop the age thing already

  • dude, you are a total genius! go to juilliard! get signed! this is awesome!

  • That's pure Jazz...

  • I quite like how you start with all the chords, but I would have liked to hear a sort of rhythmic change in my view..to make it more upbeat.

    Keep cool.

  • wow.... this is great! I love improvising but I can't improvise like that... you are a great pianist and should strongly consider a career in jazz piano. Well done!

  • AMAZING UNIQ TALENT... and the funk is in style to play the piano.

  • How you can call this Funk????

For sure you are a great piano player for 18 years!!!

But thats very very old jazz ... no modern jazz ... and omg no funk ... lol

  • jazz funk???

  • u rlly never have had a techer? ..

so how can u figure out how the chords harmonize together?

  • @oldwarcraftgamer I did the same. It may sound like bragging or whatever, but i think a teacher would have destroyed my feeling for music. Because i hate note sheets etc.

  • Tasteful...

  • buenisimo

  • Ya jazzy is okay.. but no funk at all.. it is more gospel

  • Can you tell me please, where i can get sheet of music of this song?

    Thanks

  • Thank you for that. I spent many hours playing when I was your age, and I would have given anything to play like that. Thank you again....that was beautiful.

  • Not funk, but good

Ditto on the age thing, but i'd be lying if i said i didn't wish i could have played like that when i was 18. Can't even do it now :-). Props.

  • It says right in the panel to the right that it's entirely improvised.

  • beautiful

  • Wow holy shit you are 18!?!

  • He's 21 now, i think O_o

  • i thing so haha

  • thats really awesome. but lose the age thing, you're the age that people would expect someone playing that to be

  • Well, youtube shouldn't be a freak show

  • maybe he's been recording since he was young and has so much footage he uses his age to keep track on where he was at at the time. douche. i enjoyed this piece by the way rob sorry to nitpick on your page......

  • wheres the funk????????

  • I agree this is not funk. I also think the "18 years old" thing is pathetic. Nice skills though. Best of luck mate.

  • very nice.

  • What brand of grand piano is that?

  • nice touch Robbie - constructive criticism...loose the age description in your vids, let your playing stand for itself

  • loose = from to loosen to free up

lose = to get rid of

  • Douche.

  • I agree, besides, 18 on youtube is basically ancient, you only include age if the player is under about 10 ;)

  • Awsome

  • This is better than funk.

  • Still not funk

  • this ain't funk

  • Its not funk man

  • go eat some cheese

  • eah no

  • I love it

  • While it is beautiful, I don't know if I would consider it funk.

  • @TroubleinZION

Its old fashion funk. Think of the old times you hear a guy playing in the old west bars full of cowboys or people idk what kind of people.

  • @shadowxmaria there's no old-fashioned funk just classic jazz

  • @shadowxmaria there's no old-fashioned funk just classic jazz and blues & randb

  • are you 18 years old?

  • This video has become my new daily medication.

    =*] incredibly beautiful.

  • play that funky music....white boy ?

  • It's really godd but it's definitely not funk.

  • I watched some of your vids and they sucked compared to this; you should keep your uninformed opinions to yourself!

  • lol magnum man

  • wish i could improvise like that... still working on it..

  • where is the funk? I was searching..

  • maybe it hides under the piano....

  • He is fucking stupid , theres funk hahahaa

  • @spassgamer me too....

  • good bravo!!!

  • no, i didn't lie, i wrote "tie" accidentally, meaning to write "time". only truth goes on here at the kurt 11110 refuge for garageband enthusiasts.

  • How the hell...nobody recognized the late Richerd Tee style...shame on them;they 're only able to judge...you 're so young and already so mature to play so sweetley...take care of your musicality..well done pal!!!

  • Nice playing...your buddy's piano needs a tune something fierce, however.

  • excellent,but not that funky.

  • Hahah I think this brotha should be proud to post His age and ability! Everyone who gets mad at him for that is just hatin! You know good and well if you had that ability you'd do the same!

  • Dude thats awesome

  • stop wining

  • You sort of just bragged about how you could play Beethoven's most difficult sonatas when you were eighteen... On youtube.

  • that's true, but at least i admitted that tie has caught up with me. and that's a bitch, time. i like you , you tell it like it is.

  • I figure all lies are bad: White or Black. Better you tell someone your thoughts about them than try to disguise them. It actually shows respect.

  • Very nice, but being 18 is just meh... I've seen just as good (or even better) waaay younger than 18.

Piano players seem to start out very young.

Still, awesome music you make there. Brag about your skill, not your age.

  • why do you have to drag your age into it people can see your not that old nice playing though

    keep on riffin

  • wow quite a lot of gospel influenceand chords

  • BUSTED! :D thats blues. cool!

  • you seriously have talent, and you need to attend to it, because you got that natural jazz feel that doesnt come easy. find a way to start writting because you can take this talent really far!

  • hey, this is great.. and awesome piano, awesome resonance :)

  • yo robbie...when r u posting more new videos?

  • Excellent work! Your piano seems to have the classic resonance and tone of a well maintained vintage Baldwin Acrosonic, am I wrong?

  • wow you're good for 18. I play guitar at the moment but i've always loved the piano, where did you start? When it came to teaching yourself? The piano seems as though it would be difficult to learn properly without a teacher.

  • Yes, I definitely here some "Teeisms." Nice job. Keep it up!

  • Really great. Very skilful and natural touch. Do you play professionally at all? Just shows what starting at 3 years old can do for you!!!

  • I'd love to see your funky side. But this is good too. :)

  • love it

    rock and roll

  • yo dude! you good man!

  • Dude!!! That was amazing, seriously! Have you ever played in any bands or recorded anything?

  • very nice playing, but where is the funk?

  • holy crap that cool!

  • wow my god. HES 18, good job, did i mention that hes 18 ? anyway yeah nice chops mate cant believe your only 18 !

    ps: did i mention he's 18

  • -_-

  • can you play the fast-beat funk improvs (sounds sorta like Johnny B. Goode. Sniper22b has some good examples if youre wondering how it sounds. anyways, GJ on the improv (how long did you play piano to learn how to improv?).

  • Hey, Robbie, you did really well. I enjoyed this so much. Keep on goin' strong.

And I have a question.. Is what you played based off a certain song in anyway? I like the style you played. I'd like to hear it a lot more.

  • Yes, this is brilliant. After listening to someone with this type of skill, I wonder how I can pull something off on the piano and get praise... I love the arpeggio runs... Im not even sure how he does it....

  • Aw, I just love those epic endings. That was awesome.

  • add something that links it all and youll have something amazing

  • wow amazing playing!! you got me in a zone, Great Job!

  • how do you practice man?

  • foot off the pedal mate, but really good. SOunds a bit like oscar peterson

  • rawr I can't improvise >.< I wish i could though but i just dont know what chords sound good with what. Any tips?

  • learn all your scales and chords for each key to start with, major 7, dominant, minor 7, half diminished, and then the dimished chord for each key. The scales and chords is the basis of musical theory.

  • Awesome! It's always good to see another who enjoys this genre and performs it wonderfully! Keep it up man!

  • Very nice piece, I loooooved it !

  • really enjoyed this, great work

  • Robbie, you have a good feel for the genre, would like to copy some of the licks if that's ok. I am from a classical background, trying to break into jazz now - your technique has given me some ideas!

  • lovin the feel

  • Did I hear a little "This Christmas" in there? ;0)>

Very nice Mr. Benson! Nice to see a young man as yourself keeping the Jazz/Blues/Funk alive..

  • Maybe a leak from my subconscious. I wouldn't rule it out, but it wasn't intended :P I'm sure you've seen my 'This Christmas' video too, right?

  • very nice, but certainly not funk! this is superbe jazz and nothing else :)

  • maravillooooooso

  • You're really talented man. You should get into jazz more seriously (chick corea, herbie hancock, keith jarrett)

  • Very nice Robbie! Hearing Richard play on Bridge w/ Paul Simon has inspired me to attempt to learn the piano. Have you been playing long? Very soulful, thanks!

  • I've been playing keyboards since I was 3, before my hands were big enough to reach a triad. When I was 13 though, I heard Richard and have loved and imitated his style since. Such powerful playing, it's really fun. Thanks for listening.

  • i've been playing since i was 6, now im 14. i play jazz too. pretty cool that you're keeping up with this. GJ ROBBIE

  • nice playing! How did you learn to play like that? you go boy!! I wouldn't say Jazz Funk, it's more Jazz with a little bit of Gospel and you are rippin it man! Keep up the good work.

  • man did you grow up in a baptist church or something you have a wonderful style man and you mix everything in very well thanks for sharing your music

  • I like this.

  • Bravo Robbie !!! You play just like Richard Tee.

Do you by any chance know the piece entitled " STROKIN'"?

  • Sure do - love that one. When I get around to it, I'll record and upload some more Tee tunes. I'll try Strokin' too. Thanks for the kind words; I'm glad someone hears a similarity.

    Robbie

  • That was nice, good job.

  • Awesome, Robbie. Keep playing :)

  • Very Nice Robbie,

You should add your videos to the group. I like your clean style :-)Thanks Tony Monaco
