@1kyle1Broflovski I usually like Dom Brown (That's who that is by the way) but he sounds really off in this version. Not sure why. He's been playing with them since Andy left but isn't a full member. I'd rather them make him a member and go back to five members.
As a drummer myself, Steve Ferrone's style is much more suited to this song, as he played on the whole Notorious album, which has more of a funk/rock american style sound to it compared to Duran's earlier hits with Roger Taylor.
Ferrone is considered one of the worlds best drummers, and is much better technically than Taylor.
However, Taylor's style is what suits Duran's classic more 'pop style' hits, and he is part of the classic Duran Duran line-up, so without him Duran doesn't seem complete.
Roger Taylor seems to have watered down his drumming on a lot of Duran songs when playing live in recent years. He seemed a lot more energetic on the drums in the 80's.
@GRANTHAMRASTER So True. He is now very conservative and his fills are boring, JT must miss the grooves of all Pro Drummers since, Damn you think if he is such a boring drummer he could contribute vox.....but no.
Honestly folks as a bass/guitarist.keyboard player does it matter that much. steve ferrone owned this as in he was the first in on the nortorious album....then all these years later.roger....seriously iconic track al the same?
JT is a badass bass player, and RT's drum teacher for those who don't know that. By that they are symbiotically wired, and I think this largely compensates the absence of Steve's power drumming.
I prefer Roger because he is a original member. But Steve Ferrone is the better drummer than Roger. Steve Ferrone is one of the best drummer in the world, but not Roger Taylor.
@Holygasoline - Roger is decent, but I did like Sterling better , more funk is always better in general. Roger does some DJ stuff too, but you'd never know it listening to his beats
Yeah Cuccurollo was great when he joined in the mid-80's. He gave Duran a more american style feel, along with Steve Ferrone's power style drumming. During the time of the Notorious album they played a lot of their live stuff with variations from the original songs, with a more rock feel, as on the 'Working for the Skin Trade' live dvd from 87'. If you like Cuccurollo, then get this dvd, it's generally said that Duran's live performances were at their best during this period.
@GRANTHAMRASTER appreciate the info, just got the notorious DVD with disk today, prob some live stuff on there I would imagine..Wish Roger would trance it up some more during live shows, especilly Ultra festival, eh oh wells

:( What a shame, this crowd is ungrateful... They aren't alive.. Look at the RHCP Live Earth videos though, i love RHCP but Duran Duran is so much better.

Dom Brown sounds a bit too thin. the original guitar sound of Duran Duran is influenced by Steve Jones, Mick Ronson and ... Nile Rodgers.

I prefer Warren Cuccurullo or Andy Taylor, I don't know who is that guy, I don't like how plays the guitar.

Roger seems to water down alot of the drum parts. he's even watered down girls on film!!! but his simplicity is what makes him awesome!

Yeah I'd agree, Sterling Campbell is a great drummer, but the best of the three is Steve Ferrone.

I'm not sure which one I'd say is better as I haven't heard much from Roger Taylor, but I prefer Ferrone's playing on this track - it's tighter.
