    5.20 x 10^2 is in normalized scientific notation

    That's right. When they ask you to do addition or subtraction with sig figs, look at the decimal places (unless they say to round to so many sig figs. That's the only time you need to use them with addition/subtraction).

  • @MyTutorBuddy a more clarifying question would have been for 4.0021-0.400 --> 1 sig fig (not 3 sig figs)
