  • If you look through my music library, my NIN albums stick out amongst classic rock, classical music, and folk. I first heard this in 97' when I was in high school and it really helped to release a lot pent of frustration just listening to it. "I'd rather die than give you control" fit my life at that point. Good grades, ballerina, piano lessons, trying to be miss perfect all the time. This kind of music was a refuge for me. I think it helped keep me out of a really dark place! Thanks Trent:)

  • 20 years ago Rep. Reznor wrote a song about socialism.

  • Wow 20 years... And to think it doesn't seem like that long ago to me. :-/

  • Seems like yesterday. This album came out the year I graduated. Time flies!

  • Priceless.

  • It definitely does sound like it came from the 80s

  • hey Alex....youve got a head like a fucken hole !

  • AMEN

  • GENIAL!!!!

    J'adore cette putain de vidéo!!!

  • Funny how this sounds better than universal music groups version. universal can GO FUCK THEMSELVES - GREEDY SHITHEAD MOTHERFUCKING ASSHOLE COMPANY. SHOVE THAT RETRACTABLE BATON UP YOUR ASSES, YOU SHIT-EATING DUMB FUCKS!!!!

  • um, it says contains contents from Universal Music Group in the side bar thingy. Just saying.

  • just enjoy the music... who cares about companies and middlemen, if you like the music just listen to it and don't complain abut junk like that.

  • i will never forget the first time i saw this vid & heard this song - i was just awestruck. everything about the song & lyrics hit me, fucking awesome & ageing beautifully.

  • This is one of the best records of teh 80's/90's

  • BADASS

  • I bet this video causes seizures

  • I was thinking the same thing, I love the song but the video is really hard to look at without setting off a migraine.

  • O_O

  • o_o

  • O.o

  • This music video is freakin' awesome!

  • O_o

  • o_O

  • great

  • Pretty hate machine! Best fucking album!

  • I saw Trent Renzor play this at Peabody's in Cleveland in 1989. The video is amazing but to hear it live in a small club is epic.

  • the noise at 3:44 makes the song for me!

  • Ha, I thought the same thing while listening to this song. It wasn't till I heard that sound when I fell in love with this song.

  • Only one word: Epic!

  • One of the best Trent songs, he sample two Prince songs to get this sound.

    Love it!

  • what if someones name was God Money ? the first name God, last name Money. if i was you i would definitely take it.

  • thats my name!

  • Love this song. Loved the AFI cover too. I originally thought AFI didnt add enough of their own style to it and it sounded like a tribute rather than a cover...but I hadnt heard the original in a long time. Definitely two different songs. <3

  • pure genius

  • A hole in space is an object. lol how zen is that?

  • "BLACK ATCHA SOUUUL"

  • @itsgaythatyourgay: You do realize that he says "Black as your soul!" right?(rhetorical question) Obviously not.

  • he says 'atcha' fucking stupid, god you're dumb, you don't even know the lyrics

  • AFI did a cover of this and the voice was just awful. Nothing beats this. Reznor's the best

  • dumb ass

  • i like the song but i hav no idea what the fucks going on in the video:D

  • Any of you ever been in a garage or building with an old space heater suspended from the ceiling? There's a good chance it was manufactured by Trent's family! My brother in law has one in his garage; it says REZNOR - Mercer, OH on it.

  • Isn't this a pretty shallow place to be broadcasting your earth shattering religious enlightenment? To me it would be more sacred then, you know, youtube.

  • Religion in a a NIN video?

Isn't that roughly the equivalent of preaching chastity in downtown Atlanta?

  • haha

    what is right is right

  • This has to be my favorite NIN song.

  • Trent Reznor's lyrics are the best thing that have happened to me. May seem like I set the bar pretty low, but I should be dead in a gutter; I consider myself very lucky to be alive.

I grew up as a Christian too. Funny how I fought for acceptance among Christians for years, but it seems the people who were there for me (and still are) are not even religious. You can't blame them , I was very unpopular among Christians for thinking differently. I just can't fit my head inside that small box.

  • It's good you made it through, but if it took as little as lyrics to a song to get you through, I think you're selling yourself short.

You sound like you were so preoccupied with their rejection of you that you didn't notice how they may have just been deflecting the non-acceptance you were giving them in the 1st place. Chicken & the egg.

Standards too low is as bad as standards too high. Nobody is entitled to another's acceptance and one's religion/secularism reveals little about them.

  • @TheJediCharles

Nope, he's not selling himself short, sometimes that's just what people need. Lyrics are a powerful thing.

  • I think your chicken or the egg guess is solid. There are some Christians in my past who stood by me. I've really learned that you cannot categorize an individual by the religious title they hold. I've more importantly learned not to do the same of myself.

As for those lyrics, in hindsight I can say with confidence that there are some monkeys no longer on my back.

  • He really has a fantastic vocal style with that run on phrasing. I'm in my 40's and NIN would not normally be my kind of music but this and "Only" both made it onto my iPod..... just fantastic!

  • Fuck Man. I never really liked NIN but this is pretty sweet

  • PHM was soooooo ahead of its time, i remember hearing this song on the radio when it first came out thinking "omfg what is this......i must have more of this!"

  • Niи. Kill me

  • definety brain washed by the jesus freaks. So sorry your life went that way

  • The perfect drug, eh playful101?

  • Regardless of your stand point, who gave you the authority to criticize another for their beliefs and tell him what he should or should not have? The Nazis?

  • Stop people hes right stop bad rating him because your affraid of the truth! The bible was wrote , What 200 years AFTER he lived? There was no proof he was even here! So stop making it a big deal. Live by facts not fiction!

  • Do you even know why the Crusades happened? It happened because it says in the bible "when the world is united under one religion, God, etc, will return to the planet to take everyone to Heaven" So, they started going around forcing people to follow the religion, and the alternative was death.

They wanted everyone to be Christian so that God would return. Man had little understanding of true religion, then, so using that as a reference to "religion giving peace" is very inaccurate.

  • Actually the crusades were fought so Christians could regain control of the 'holy land' by killing a lot of Muslims, preaching Christianity was second place, but leave it to a religious person to preach about how it was about uniting the world.

Besides prove me wrong but isn't that exactly what your God is doing?!?! The bible say's 'do what I say or you will DIE!!!!!!!!'

    Talk about your peaceful God!

  • Peace is relative. He gives people peace within themselves. If some people think that they need to fight over it and make everyone believe the smae thing thats their problem. You have no room to tell believers that he isnt real cause honestly none of us know. That is the beauty of faith. Your faith is in beleiving that there is no god. your no different than the millions of christians that you ridicule. Hypocrite..

  • Peace is relative? Were your parents relatives? I mean did you just string together a bunch of words or are you that retarded? Do you think that sitting on a beach is peaceful? Would you consider being tortured peaceful? And when people start wars over religion it's by no means 'their problem' as you put it(but congratulations on being as compassionate just as christ preached). And sense when is the lack of knowledge a good reason for faith?

  • Sorry Religion gives people morals dude. If some people take those morals out of context thats not my problem. Religion isnt about who's right and wrong. its only about your relation with God. Religion does start wars and it its a problem when psychos like hitler use it. but when there is just normal people that believe in something greater than any of us your gonna call us stupid?

And when the Bible says "Do what i say or die!" they are referring to an ultimate death.

  • "Religion isn't about who's right and wrong". Well religion maybe, but the bible most certainly is! Besides I think people who believe in the bible are stupid, not just because they believe in something greater. I grew up in a very strict Christian household and had read the bible many times before I could even shave. And let me tell you the morals that "religion gives you" actually exist outside of religion also so quit crediting a powerless book for your accomplishments!

  • i have never credited the bible for anything. Second off i used to not believe in it. i went to a christian grade school for eight years and the more i was there the less i believed. I had no interest in God until this past year when something so terrible i'm not gonna mentioned happened to me. and in that moment, when i hit rock bottom, god saved me. sorry you have never had an encounter like this but it made me a believer.

  • people like you could say that what happened was sheer luck but it wasnt. i should have died. but here i am. and even if he isnt real at least i finally found peace within myself.

  • Sorry for whatever made you hit rock bottom, but religions exploit people who are feeling low. For example christianity tells people who have lost a loved one in death that if they follow their teachings they'll be re-united, religions exploits your feeling to entice you to follow their beliefs! I'm saying you should follow whatever your feel is the right course for you, nobody can live your life for you (not even christ), but would you follow christianity without the promise of an afterlife?

  • well actually i would because it wasnt like i lost someone close and religion promised me anything. I spiraled down until i did something dumb. I was saved. I respect your decision to nto believe but hell, i dont know 100% that im right. and im sure there is something that is there that makes you wonder what it. I just hate people that think that everyon has to believe the same thing as them. Like you and the catholic church. and trust me ive thought about religion way too long also.

  • one day if youve ever been in the same situation as me youll understand why i believe what i do. if you still dont believe than that is really what you believe. And then great for you. its in those trivial moments that really shape who we are

  • According to your logic if you have no way to disprove that Hitler is responsible for your inner peace he is god?! Finally faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen (heb 11:1). So you have FAITH that when you die you will go where your religion say's it's going, without any evidence. I have knowledge that when my body does not exist anymore neither will I, having spent quiet a lot of time without a body before I was born.

  • The Bible, if youve ever read a small amount of it you uncultured slob, is up for interpretation. Religion does not start all wars either. Men do in this time period so why dont stop pointing the finger at religion and start pointing at our world leaders who are fucking us all over with their greedy wars. As a christian i have to say that you could be right, there might not be an afterlife. But i also have to say that scientology and other "crazy" religions are possible

  • who cares what is possible?? just intoxicate and fornicate yourself with as many things as possible!!! THAT IS THE MEANING OF LIFE, RIGHT??????????????????????????????

  • The bible is up for interpretation? Really? Have you bothered to read it? Besides it being a complete contradiction (the old vs the new testament) it has a little room for any interpretation! Can you really say that the exisitance of a God, or any major christian belief is up for interpretation. And if so why would you feel the need to follow them with such vigor? If you really believe it's up for interpretation then you just admitted Christians are wrong!

  • your using the word interpretation very loosely. you are referring to catholics which are the biggest tools on the planet. they take whatever the pope says and follow like sheep. i believe in a thing that is greater than myself, whether that is a god or not. Every one needs something to believe. You believe in Only this life. I have wishful thinking. and as for that scat4u guy, just cuz i believe in god tht doesnt mean tht i cant smoke pot/drink. There is nothing in the bible against it

  • Besides: Why the fuck are you listening to this song, in you didn't know the lyrics are God money, not got money. The whole song is about how bad religion is! Listen to the lyrics! I'm sorry you can't or don't want to accept that there is no after-life, but until you do you will be wasting your life.

  • F.Y.I. the band footage was shot at the original location of the bar Exit 1653 N .Wells St. in big Chicago on the "dance" floor that place ruled !!!

  • LOL?

  • And playful101, religion no reason to stop liking NIN. Johnny Cash was a devout follower of Jesus, and he enjoyed and respected Reznor, even making a cover of NIN's "Hurt".

  • Actually if you bothered to listen to the lyrics of any NIN song you wouldn't say that.

  • Stop saying what...? Cash making a cover of "Hurt"?

  • Cant we just enjoy Trent singing without any religous argument!

  • I entirely agree, since this song was written about his manager and not anything religious.

  • nin the best

  • wow been 20 years already! I remember when this album first came out and changed the world lol

  • I honestly like "Down In It" better

  • The video for it on YouTube sucks. I like this song better than "Down In It", but it's also good.

  • omfg, i've listened to NIN since i was 11 and i never knew he had dreads =O

  • He doesn't anymore.

  • I know that, I meant I never knew that he used to ;p

  • Look at those dreads! God, 20 years has changed him... he's lost the frail goth look, and has beefed him up an awful lot.

I love this song though :) Trent is a musical genius

  • OwO*

  • BOW DOWN BEFORE THE ONE YOU SERVE!!!!

  • To think this was _twenty_ fucking years ago. So crazy! This was the first music cassette I ever owned. Best band of all time!!

  • oh shit, yes nine inch nails did start 20 years ago, 20 years of industrial music created by trent reznor

  • I sense anger in you young child. Try a dildo in the ass, it will soothe your desire for rectal destruction.

    Reznor is a genius

    i'm a life long fan

  • This song is interestingand kinda catchy--I don't hate it, but the music video is weird. XP

  • Eh not really. It's all about how people worship money and are slaves to the government and global elite. "I'd rather die than give you control." How those who "bow down before the one you serve, you're going to get what you deserve." for being a sheep, a follower, a slave to the system.

Trent is a very smart man, even back then he seen through all the Illuminati bullshit and sent them a harsh message.

  • Yeah, Trent Reznor used to do drugs, but he's been sober for years now...

  • Video game song.

  • I just came

  • LMAO

  • me to but i came harder

  • What? How did this turn you on? O.o

  • It's banned from assignments because it is a LARGE encyclopedia...

  • if you knew how to use it, you wouldn't be using wikipedia as the source itself, they list every source they have on the subject at the bottom of every single article they publish on the net.

  • If you live in Indianapolis and if you are tired of sitting in-front of a computer screen, then contact me. I am starting a civil rights group. We will fight. We will win. We will not falter. "think globally, act locally."

  • i rahter die then u control

  • wtf?

  • NIN is currently touring. may be their last tour ever.

  • Head like a hole is dedicated to people who are in slavery but love the fact it gives you power.Bow down means you pray to money cause it it's your god now! God help us all. Were dead and dont even know it.

  • I'm not sure if that made any sense. and i have a pulse so I'm pretty sure I'm alive

  • what!?!!?! its not like he's dead...

  • yes he is, listen to year zero.

    NIN R.I.P.

  • Typical asshat.

  • treznor isn't dead...

  • NIN R.I.P.

  • NIN broke up though

  • Wow, you are a dumbass, plain and simple.

HE can't break up! HE's ONE PERSON. TRENT REZNOR. Wtf? do you think he has like multiple personalities?

  • NIN is a band. Not just Trent.

  • Well, yes and no...NIN is Trent's band, he is the lone creator since he made his first record in his garage, and since then he's had hired help playing what he wrote for studio recordings and tours...but the members constantly change.

  • Yeah, when they play LIVE. You do realize that Reznor is THE guiding force for NIN. All their albums he's played every part except drums. Sometimes he will have people come into record drums though. But still, the band is Trent Reznor.

  • Nine Inch Nails is a band, not a solo act. And he has not played every instrument on every record. He does have band members. Trent Reznor is just the only permanent member. and the founder. And on some albums and songs he has played the instruments, but not them all.

  • NIN is trent, pure and simple.

  • hile assembling these, the earliest Nine Inch Nails recordings, Reznor was unable to find a band that could articulate the material as he desired. Instead, inspired by Prince, Reznor played all the instruments except drums himself.[11] This role remains Reznor's on most of the band's studio recordings, though he has occasionally involved other musicians and assistants

  • No... NIN is a solo act. It's as simple as that. Trent is the creative force behind it, and on all of the albums (excluding ghosts and the slip), he has played the vast majority of the instruments- only taking other people on occasionally to play with him.

The band members are organized for touring, but in the studio, where the music is made, it's all trent.

  • ok dude now mabye you should look it up on wiki. Trent IS NIN. yes, he HAS played every insturment. he writes all the lyrics, and YES IT IS a solo act. get your info correct before you make yourself look stupid

  • *sigh* No, NIN IS JUST TRENT. Other people come on to play on tours, but Trent makes the music, produces the music, writes the lyrics, and organizes the tour. He is taking a break from music for a while, and is going to pusue other interests, like the HBO series on Year Zero. NIN can't break up because it IS IN FACT JUST TRENT.

  • They're back together. I was at their concert with Jane's Addiction in San Diego on Saturday.

  • I saw them in Toronto with Janes Addiction in the 18th ROW!

  • We all kneel before God Money. People will lie. Cheat. sell their soul. Even murder in his name. His likeness is on the back of the dollar bill. Annuit Coeptius is his true name

  • lawls

  • NIN ftw.

  • fuck bowing down to a dead god

  • My boyfriend knows that Trent is the only man i'd leave him for ..... LOL!

  • my boyfriend says he'd leave me for trent haha i said not if i leave you first to get trent xD
