I know about these assasination attempts and I have the highest respect for those heros who tried to stop the madness. I think, It would've been better if Bavaria during the 19th cent., (if it couldn't maintain its idependence under Prussian pressure), would've joined its Catholic brothers, in Austria-Hungary instead. It might have worked to curb down the self-destructive overambitions and militarism of the pan German Prussians. In the long run it might have been better.

After the Battle of Kharkov in Feb/March 43, even elite waffen SS units like Leibstandarte and Das Reich took 17/18 year old conscripts. Leibstandarte had 1500 Luftwaffe ground crew posted to it. The 9th SS Division Hohenstaffen and 10 SS Division Frundberg who fought at Arnhem consisted solely of onscripts except for the Carde. This continued until the end of the war.
The cadre is probably the most important thing though.(especially (NCOS). Also, these conscripts were fighting for their lives, and in many cases fought better than the well trained german forces of 1940-42.
There is a great difference in conscripted soldiers and SS or voulentary soldiers... My grandad was NOT Nazi but he fought in the German army. Not for Hitler but he thought Germany would be destroyed if it became Soviet. So he still fought with devotion, but he hated Hitler.

Hey Odessa45, I am with you, but, sad to say according to David Irving the Russians lied about their losses. The axis forces killed nowhere near the 30 million that is today claimed. Stalin told Churchill only around 5(?) million.

I think the German soldiers would disagree with the 30 million number too, as they were shocked at the hoardes that kept coming.

main reason for initial success wasn't just the Blitz surprise. Germany had superior weapons, training and tactics.German soldier was well motivated.invasion was such a shock to the badly equipped, clumsy commanded and unmotivated Red soldiers they fleed massively to the East. By the time the panzers reached Moscow there was barely anyone left.Red army had to force their soldiers to stay and fight or be executed. Then the first major German mistake came.Panzers were ordered to turn south.

The Russians offered a fair chance for surrender, but German high command (Hitler) refused. So 300.000 of the world's best soldiers were sacrificed for nothing.

I think, It would've been better if Bavaria during the 19th cent., (if it couldn't maintain its idependence under Prussian pressure), would've joined its Catholic brothers, in Austria-Hungary instead. It might have worked to curb down the self-destructive overambitions and militarism of the pan German Prussians. In the long run it might have been better.

To tell you the truth, the fate of the war between Germany and Russia during 1941-1943 had hung in a knife edge, and one can even say that Russia stole its victory, from the jaws of defeat.

You are right, it was only an exclamation he,he. Well those who were defeated at the begining weren't all Russians we used our asiatic and other reserves too. After 1942 Germany's destiny was obvious total defeat only a matter of time. Russian Empire changed many times the worldwide history I think you know that. Hitler before dying recognized that Russian people is stronger and wanted to destroy Germany for being weakest.

I just wanted to caution you, for a little modesty on your part and a bit of less simplistic boasting. By and large Europeans are more informed, that 'americanized' style of opinion would make any converts or friends for Russia. Indeed, the time has come to reveal the truth surrounding 2nd WW, including many of its secret aspects, in order to arrive to some message, which will unite us, instead of divide us along the all too familiar fault lines.

German army was far superior to the Russian, who could escape only thanks to their winter and long distances.They did not even have a rifle for each of their soldiers.Hitler made strategic mistakes(His generals did not).German soldiers didn't bring winterclothing. And Moscow was no priority.This and only this saved the Russian motherland from total catastrofe.

I agree with you, on the main part. That war was eminently winable for Germany, much more so, than any Russian would honestly admit it, even 60 years later on. The qualitative differences between the two armies and the two nations' soldiers were huge also. Otherwise, how on earth one can explain, the hugely lopsided losses (including military losses) favouring the German side, regardless if it happened during defensive or offensive operations?

Russian massive counterattacks with Siberian and Mongolian troops only succeeded, because the German army was stuck in the snow and hard winter on which she was not prepared. Even the brilliant Marshal Zhukov could not have been able to save the Russian army, without the winter and hard circumstances, plus stupid mistakes from an arrogant German high command.

I guess for <i>'Darki'</i> being better means, that his side has 4-6 times more dead soldiers lying on the battlefield, than from their enemies' side. His defence for the embarrasing defeats of whole Soviet armygroups, at the hand of much smaller forces, at the beginning of the war, is deeply insulting and untrue. He says it was because the soldiers were Asiatic.

Actually, in ratio the number of Asiatic soldiers increased, as the war was progressing, which pressured the Soviets to replace their gargantuan losses. By the time they have arrived to Berlin, in about half their soldeirs were Orientals, who were not any worse than the regular 'Russkies'.

Intelligenceagents, has a point. Not all German soldiers who fought in WW2 were nazis. There were regular germans who were drafted & then there were volunteers. I'm not saying that all volunteers were nazis either. I'm just saying to be a nazi, you had to join the nazi party. Only then you can have a voice of opinion/vote in the party.

After the Battle of Kharkov in Feb/March 43, even elite waffen SS units like Leibstandarte and Das Reich took 17/18 year old conscripts. Leibstandarte had 1500 Luftwaffe ground crew posted to it. The 9th SS Division Hohenstaffen and 10 SS Division Frundberg who fought at Arnhem consisted solely of onscripts except for the Carde. This continued until the end of the war.

The cadre is probably the most important thing though.(especially (NCOS). Also, these conscripts were fighting for their lives, and in many cases fought better than the well trained german forces of 1940-42.

There is a great difference in conscripted soldiers and SS or voulentary soldiers... My grandad was NOT Nazi but he fought in the German army. Not for Hitler but he thought Germany would be destroyed if it became Soviet. So he still fought with devotion, but he hated Hitler.
